The Hidden Truth
Chapter 1
Empire day. The birthday of the glorious, disgusting, Empire. It was also about fifteen years ago since the Empire wiped out all the Jedi. Apparently the ten-thousand Jedi all across the galaxy suddenly gone. For all Sabine knew there were only two left. Kanan Jarrus, and Ezra Bridger. Another thing about today was, fifteen years ago Ezra was born. No one in the Ghost Crew knew about it. They only found out because Tseebo told them. Tseebo was a green Rodian, and a friend of Ezra's parents. After they were captured, Tseebo went to work for the empire to find information about the boy's parents. And ended up with cybernetic implants in his head. which also has half the Empire's secrets just floating in his brain. All the information was basically overloading his brain.
But because Tseebo is on the Empire's most wanted list for his escape, the Ghost crew had become a major target while trying to get away. Well even major then before. In the process of escaping the Ghost was tagged with a tracker. More specifically the Phantom. The Ghost's little excursion ship. It has no hyperdrive so it can't go too far, but it serves its purpose. Since the Empire was tracking them, Kanan came up with one of his famously stupid plans: to detach the Phantom while in hyperspace. And only him and Ezra would go to the old clone base on Anaxis. The planet itself looked like it took a bomb to the core, it didn't help that there were those nasty creatures too. The thought of them made a shiver down Sabine's spine. But it was the only way to get the Empire off their tail, and no one had a better idea so they went with it.
While Kanan and Ezra go fight the Empire, Sabine, Zeb, and Hera, were docking with some weird ship to deliver Tseebo to. And somewhere in that weird ship was Fulcrum. Sabine had no clue who this Fulcrum was. Just that they have some good info about the Empire, and definitely want to keep themselves a secret. The Ghost vibrated when they docked with the mysterious ship.
"Fulcrum to Ghost. Docking complete, heading to the airlock now." Fulcrum said into the comm with their gurgly voice changer.
"Acknowledge, Fulcrum. We're ready and waiting." Hera replied.
Sabine knew it was a long shot but she asked anyway. "I don't suppose Zeb and I could get to meet Fulcrum this time?"
Hera tapped Sabine's shoulder as she headed for the cockpit door. "Nope. This time, you stay in the cockpit."
"That's what we did last time." Zeb whined. The door slid open with a whoosh and Hera walked out. Sabine diverted her attention back to the old disk she found in Ezra's old home. She fingered it between her middle finger and pointer. Sabine leaned forward in the co-pilot seat. She wondered what was on it. Ezra dismissed it immediately. But Sabine knew it had to be somewhat important. It was at least worth a look.
She got up from her seat and went over to the console. "Hey, what are you doing?" Zeb questioned. "And what is that?"
"It's an old holo-disk I found in Ezra's home." Sabine said while she was got out a rag. There was guck everywhere on the thing.
Zeb plopped down on one of the chairs. "What's on it?"
"No idea, it's pretty degraded. But I think I can clean it up and give it to him for his birthday." She replied.
"Wait... it's the kid's birthday?" Sabine nodded as she worked. "I think I got it!" She pulled out a holo device to project whatever was on it. She tapped a few buttons and an image of a young Ezra with his parents popped up. Zeb and Sabine both stared at it. She felt pity for Ezra. The kid's parents were taken when he was seven. And on his birthday no less. She couldn't imagine Ezra trying to live through all of that alone. The hologram reminded her of her own parents. The second she said the Empire wasn't who they thought they were. Her whole family didn't stand with her. They banished her and labeled her a traitor.
"Is just me, or Ezra looks a bit off here." Zeb noted. Pulling Sabine away from her thoughts.
"Yeah, he's eight years younger." Sabine teased.
Zeb just growled at her. "I don't mean that! I meant his hair!" Pointing to it as he yelled.
Sabine studied it for a moment, his hair was different.. "Wait, your right. Ezra's hair is jet-black here. But now it's blue."
"Can hair do that?" Zeb questioned. As a Lasat he didn't know too much about hair. He had it, but not like how humans do. Plus it was more specifically fur, not hair.
"Well it depends on genes. But for humans, hair usually doesn't turn blue; and both his parents look human . ." Sabine explained. She didn't want to assume Ezra was a cross species or something, or that they aren't his real parents. But nothing else makes sense.
"Maybe he dyed his hair like you do?" Zeb thought.
She tilted her head, considering it. "It's a possibility, but his hair doesn't look dyed. . If it is I haven't really noticed."
There was a long pause of silence that went over them. Both thinking of why this kid has blueberry hair. It could just be nothing, it was most definitely none of their business anyways. But he is a part of their crew and family. There also is the possibility that even Ezra doesn't even know why himself. Zeb was the one to break the silence between the two. "Do we tell Hera?" Not even a later the cockpit door opened again.
"Tell me what?" They both whipped around to face the Twi'lek.
Sabine rubbed the back of her head. Considering where to even start. "Have you ever noticed Ezra's hair is blue?"
"Yeah…?" Hera said, sounding a bit skeptical why this was coming up now. She put a hand on her hip and leaned to one side.
"Well. . Do you think his hair is dyed?" Sabine asked cautiously.
"Aren't you supposed to be the hair expert?" Hera questioned.
"I'm just asking." Sabine said and raised her hands up defensively. Hera walked past her and Zeb and headed towards the pilot seat. "Well then just ask Ezra, after we pick them up." Sabine sat down next in the co-pilot seat as Hera pushed a lever. The cockpit was suddenly filled with the blue mass known as hyperspace.
He couldn't believe he used the dark side. He was just trying to protect Kanan. Did the inquisitor really get into his head like that? Ezra didn't even remember any of it, Kanan said it was for the best. He still felt a little cold. But that part may be because he's in space, plus Hera keeps the Ghost temperature relatively lower so it wouldn't be picked up from any scanners. Everything worked out in the end though, right? Kanan is okay, and they made it out safe. So does it really matter?
He heard footsteps coming up from behind him. Ezra was in the nose gun of the Ghost staring off into space, literally. He didn't turn to see who it was.
"Rough couple of days." It was Sabine.
"Yeah. It's been strange." He replied.
Sabine walked over to the panels on his left. "I have just what you need. It's the holo disk from your house. It was pretty degraded but I cleaned it up." Sabine said as she put the disk in a slot. "And I found something."
In Front of the blackness of space appeared a Hologram. At first Ezra didn't know what he was looking at and who were those people. Then it struck him, it was him and his parents.
"Mom? Dad." Ezra blurted out. Sabine chuckled then said. "Happy birthday, Ezra Bridger." She walked away.
The reason Ezra was unsure who the people were, is because he had never seen his parents before. The truth was, Ezra was born blind. He could see now because of the lenses his parents were going to give him for his seventh birthday. But they never got the chance to before the Empire took them away. He found them all wrapped up in his home after the Empire left. The contacts work like cybernetic implants, but you can remove them. At first Ezra wasn't sure why you wanted to remove them and be blind again. But after having them on for five minutes his eyes inched and stung. If it wasn't for the fact of that he could see he would have taken them out immediately.
The problem was Ezra had no clue how to remove them. He had tried once, but then got too scared. He didn't want to break them. But because they hurt so much it made it so Ezra couldn't sleep well, or sometimes at all. He thought about asking for help from Kanan. But he didn't want to admit to being blind. So he kept quiet about it.
Sabine went up the ladder, through the cockpit, then through the hallway, and back into the common room. Kanan and Hera went to go talk in the gallery, but Zeb stayed put. "Did you ask him about his hair?" Zeb questioned the second she walked into the room.
Sabine shook her head. "You saw how worried Kanan looked when they came back. I figured it wasn't the best time." Zeb nodded agreeing. She could tell his curiosity got the best of him. "Do you think that he dyed his hair, or do you think there's more to it?"
Sabine sat down on the stool and leaned on the holo table. "His hair didn't look dyed. And, I have a feeling there is more to it."
"You're not a bad teacher." Hera stated, then let out an aggravated breath. Kanan could be so difficult sometimes. "As you said Ezra's abilities are growing fast. Next time you just have to make sure that both you, and him are ready for it."
Kanan looked down at the table then nodded. After a moment of silence Hera asked.
"Do you think Ezra's hair is dyed?"
Kanan's head perked up in an instant with eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "What?" His voice a higher octave than normal.
"I don't know." Hera wave her hands aimlessly through the air. "Sabine asked me earlier."
"Why?" Kanan asked, before taking a sip of the blue milk. Hera just stared at him. "Seriously, you haven't noticed the kid's hair is blue?"
Kanan crossed his arms. "I don't really pay attention that much." Hera mimicked Kanan, But with a growing smirk on her face. "I find that hard to believe." He just shrugged and put his empty cup in the sink.
"I think, I'm gonna meditate for a little while, then go to sleep."
"Okay. Good night, love."
"Night, Hera."
She hoped Ezra would be okay, and Kanan. He was unsure of himself if he was going to be able to teach Ezra in the first place. This definitely added to his worries. But Kanan would persevere. He always did. Hera got up and headed for her cabin. She was tired too. They had been up for a long time. It tends to happen when the mission gets extended in space. But recently it seemed it was happening more and more. But soon there will be no more missions, the Empire will be gone, and people could live their lives the way they want. But Hera had a feeling that wasn't going to happen for quite from time.
Ezra wasn't sure how long he had been staring at the photo, just that it's been a few hours. Which didn't matter to him, he wouldn't be able to sleep anyways. He always wondered what his parents look like. Since he didn't get to see them before they disappeared. Ezra still couldn't see color. The contacts weren't that advanced. He was just happy that he could see at all. His legs were starting to become numb, and stiff. Ezra slowly up from the gunner's chair, fully aware of his fallen asleep legs. He turn off the holo. But left the disk in the slot. Then headed up the ramp to the cockpit to the common room. Being extra careful to not wake anyone. Once he got to the common room he tripped over the stool on his way to the wooden chair. He banged his head on the holo-table. Leaving him slightly dizzy for a few moments.
"Ow." Ezra blurted out before he had the chance to stop himself. The stool had blended in perfectly with the floor that Ezra didn't even notice it. Another problem with the lenses was Ezra couldn't see far.
"You alright?"
Kanan said, startling Ezra completely. The kid whipped around and saw Kanan leaning in the doorway. Great, just great. "I'm Fine." Ezra replied in a flat tone. He decided to sit down at the booth instead. Less chances of him running into more stuff. Kanan walked over and sat down next to him.
"What are you doing up?" Kanan asked. Ezra flicked at non-existent dust on the table. Hoping to pay no part in the upcoming conversation.
"Can't sleep."
"Was it because of earlier?"
Ezra knew Kanan partly blamed himself for not making Ezra ready. Ezra didn't. He was just relieved they both made in back in one piece.
"No. I— it's just I haven't been able to sleep well, recently." Ezra stuttered. And by recently I mean for the past eight years.
"Do you know why?" Kanan asked. Ezra made himself look like he was thinking for a moment, then simply shook his head no.
He decided to change the subject to off of him. "What are You doing up?"
"I was meditating. I sensed movement." Kanan said. Ezra knew Kanan probably suspected something. Which is exactly what he didn't want to happen. He felt bad that he disturbed Kanan from meditating.
"M'Sorry. For—"
"Don't be." Kanan cut him off, then paused for a moment. "Is something wrong?"
Karabast, he knows.
"No. Everything's fine."
Kanan leaned back and gave his I'm not buying it look. Ezra got up before Kanan could ask anymore questions. "I'm gonna go try and sleep." Just as Ezra was about to walk out of the room he heard kanan speak. "Do or do not, there is no try." Ezra rolled his eyes, and headed for his shared cabin with Zeb. That definitely was close, too close for comfort. He didn't want anyone knowing. But there was a small feeling inside of him saying soon they will.

Ok yes I know one of my other stories also involved the main character being blind. It's just such a cool aspect in stories, and I like to take on how different characters deal with similar situations. This one will definitely be different I promise. Also I know Ezra's hair isn't actually blue it just looks like that in the animation, in the comics his hair is black. But I though I would expand why Ezra is so strong in the force and learned very quickly, and why his hair looks blue. But for the sake of this AU it is actually blue.
I try to either say words that the characters have already said, or imagine them saying it in my head in their voice to see if it fits. And likewise to body movement as well, because there is nothing worse than having a good story but then the characters don't match or act like they normally do. If anyone feels I'm doing something wrong and it feels out of place, please tell me I think this to feel as close as possible to the real show.
