"Ugh..." Peter Parker sat up, rubbing his head. "Where am- what?" Looking around, he noted a small hole far above and a bed of flowers below. "I must have fallen down that mountain crevice I was investigating. Sloppy work." He aimed a webshooter to the hole and fired. The web streaked up for a few yards and then fell simply in a pile around him. "Too far up to web." He looked around again. He couldn't see the walls of the cave. Too dark.

" Ok, " he patted himself up and down. "Missing mask. Too bad. Both webshooters intact. Web fluid about 50%. Broken bones- um, healing." Continuing to look around, he noticed a purple archway nearby.

"Spider sense isn't pinging anything... " He shrugged and walked through. Immediately he felt a surge of energy course through him. "Odd."

His spider-sense chose to go off.

"Eep!" He lept back as a single golden flower, much like the ones he had landed on, popped from the ground in front of him. It gave him a quizzical look.

"Flower with a face. " Peter noted. "Not creepy. At all."

The flower grinned. "Howdy there! The name's not creepy, it's Flowey!"

" ... Flowey? "

"Yup! Flowey the Flower!"

Peter scratched his head. "Seems a bit derivative, but whatever you say, pal."

Flower looked slightly put out for a moment, but quickly was smiling again. "Gee, you're new to the underground, aren't cha?"

" Well, I'm new to the neighborhood, that's for sure-"

"Someone oughta teach you how things work around here!" Flowey continued. Peter went to talk again, but Flowey wasn't paying attention. "Guess it's up to little ol me!"

Suddenly, Peter's spider-sense went off, and a red heart flew from his chest to hover in front of him.

"Whoa!" He exclaimed. "I think you ripped my heart from my body!"

Flowey have him a look. "First off, that wasn't me per say. Your SOUL just reacted to my presence. Second, as I said, that's not your heart, it's your SOUL. The culmination of all your being."

" ... It looks like a heart."

Flowey glared slightly. "Believe me, it's not."

"And why are you saying "soul" like that?"

Flowey opted to ignore him. "Your SOUL IS pretty weak right now-"

"I beg to differ-"

"BUT! " Flowey pressed on. "It will grow stronger as you gain LV. What does LV stand for?"

"Level?"

"No, silly." Flowey chuckled. "It stands for LOVE!"

"You sure this thing isn't a heart? " Peter waved his hand through it and began moving to see how it reacted. "I mean, if love makes it stronger-"

"LOVE makes it stronger." Flowey corrected, visibly irritated. " Look pal, I wanna help you out here, so I'll give you some LOVE. "

"Umm..." Peter was about to protest when flowing white pellets of some kind manifested around Flowey. "What are those?"

"Down here, LOVE is shared through little... " Flowey appeared to be thinking. "... White... Friendliness pellets!"

Peter scratched his head. "Are they called that or is that your name for them? Because honestly between that and your own name you're not that good at naming things."

Flowey looked like he was gritting his teeth. "Just accept my help, willya? Catch these to increase your LOVE!" The pellets whizzed towards Peter, but his spider-sense went off as the got close. On instinct, he flipped out of the way of them.

"Hey, buddy." Flowey said, clearly getting annoyed. "You missed them."

"Well, I got an early warning detector called "spider-sense" that warns me about danger. " Peter replied. "You know, like how spiders do?"

Flowey rolled his eyes. "Buddy, the early warning detector system for spiders are their eyes. But, I suppose if you can tell these things are dangerous..." His face suddenly contorted into a demonic skull, and Peter's spider-sense went crazy as he suddenly found himself surrounded by the so-called friendliness pellets. "There's no use in lying. Here, it's kill or be killed. And killing you is going to be VERY satisfying to me." The pellets began closing in, and while Peter had no clue why they'd do if the touched his SOUL, he didn't want to find out. "DIE. " Flowey intoned.

"Do I have to?" Peter stalled, looking for a way out.

"YES." Flowey replied, laughing maniacally. At the last second, the pellets vanished. The surprise on Flowey's face quickly turned to pain as a fireball flung him far away.

"Convenient." Peter noted, turning towards the direction the fireball has come from. He then jumped slightly as a large Goat-woman wearing a purple dress walked towards him. His spider-sense, however, did nothing, so he calmed down.

"What a terrible creature, to be torturing a poor, innocent youth..." She sighed.

"Uh... Hello? " Peter said, somewhat confused.

"Ah, do not be afraid, my child." She said, addressing Peter. " I am Toriel, caretaker of the ruins. "

"I am Peter... Um, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man." He replied.

Toriel chuckled. "Such a curious name! Well, I pass by here every day to see if anyone has fallen down. You are the first human to come down here in a long time." Her face turned to a wistful expression, as though remembering a far away memory. "Come now, I shall guide you through the ruins. "

Peter's SOUL returned to his body, and everything returned to normal.

"Come." Toriel stated, leading the way through another arch.

Peter found himself in a large open hall, all purples and indigos, with red leaves fallen throughout. Gazing about this place, he felt the same curious sensation as before. It seemed to be as though he wanted to go on. He felt like that often, though, so it wouldn't have been abnormal were it not for a voice that spoke in his head-

"The shadow of the ruins lurk above, filling you with determination." It was the voice of a girl who couldn't have been more than eight, and he could hear it, though Toriel didn't respond.

"Ack!" He yelped.

Toriel looked at him. "Everything all right?"

" Umm... " he pondered for a moment, but hearing nothing, shrugged. "Nevermind."

What was that? He wondered as he followed Toriel in. Or who?

Toriel turned to face him as he walked into the next room. "Welcome to your new home, curious one."

"New home?" Peter asked, but Toriel didn't hear him.

"Allow me to educate you in the operation of the ruins." Toriel proceeded to tell him something about puzzles being the way to progress through the place, but honestly Peter wasn't paying that much attention. At some point, she indicated that they were to go to the next room, and Peter followed. He was too deep in thought to notice when he smacked into the wall.

"Ow." he groaned.

"You were so deep in thought, you missed the door." The voice said again, sounding slightly amused.

"That's just creepy. " Peter said. "Who are you?"

There was no response.

"This place is weird." He shrugged warily, and continued to the next room. It was another long hall, with spike bridges over flowing water.

"To progress here, you will need to trigger several switches. " Toriel said. "Do not worry, I have labelled the ones you need to press."

Peter was slightly confused. "Can't I just jump over the water?"

"Hmm?" Toriel seemed confused by this, so Peter demonstrated by acrobatically flipping over the three waterways and landing soundly on the other side.

"I mean, I could've used the ceiling to, but-"

"That was very dangerous!" Toriel scolded. "You could be hurt!" She flipped the switches and crossed the bridge to where he was. "From now on, please follow the puzzle instructions. They exist to keep you safe."

Peter nodded, but was still confused. Following Toriel into the next room, he noticed the training dummy testing on the ground.

"As a human living in the Underground, you may be attacked by monsters." Toriel said. "You will need to be prepared for this."

"I think I can handle myself." Peter replied, squaring up to the training dummy.

"When you encounter a monster, you'll enter a fight. When this occurs, strike up a friendly conversation."

Peter put his arms down. "What do you mean?"

"Well, monsters use magic to interact with other monsters, but this magic is harmful to you. " Toriel replied. "Most mean no harm. SImply stall for time and I will resolve the conflict."

Peter shrugged. "Ok." Turning to the dummy, he felt his SOUL fly from his body to hover in front of him again, as the surroundings turned to greyscale.

"You encounter the dummy!"

"Who are you?" Peter asked. "Nevermind, thing at hand. " He figured that he could probably send this thing flying, but Toriel had said to stall for time. "What is this thing made of anyways?"

" It's a training dummy. " The voice noted. "ATL 0, DEF 0. A cotton heart and a button eye, you are the apple of my eye.."

"Ok, the singsong is kinda creepy." Peter noted.

"Would you rather I recite poetry?" The voice asked sarcastically. "Pay attention! Not that this thing is doing anything. "

Peter sighed and turned back to the dummy. It didn't do anything. "Uh, hey bro! How's life!"

The dummy said nothing. Peter didn't expect it to. At any rate, Toriel stepped in and ended the battle.

"Congratulations, you won with 0 EXP and 0 GD." The voice intoned.

"Swell." Peter replied, following a pleased Toriel into the next room. They hadn't gone far when his soul was removed from his body again, this time by a rather adorable, if unimpressive frog-like creature.

"Voice in head girl, who is this?" He asked, concerned.

"I have a name, you know." The voice replied.

"And what's that?"

"... Chara. My name is Chara. And for your information, that is a Froggit, with 4 ATK and 5 DEF. Life is quite difficult for them."

"Chara, huh?" Peter replied. "Nice name."

"Focus, weirdo."

"Ack!" Peter leapt out of the way of several fly-shaped pellets. "What to do... Um, Mr. Froggit, um... Can we be friends? I don't wanna hurt you!"

The Froggit looked confused, but pleased, at least until Toriel walked over and gave it a glare. It hopped away, and Peter felt the room return to normal again.

"Congrats, you won 0 XP and 0 gold."

"Are you just gonna keep telling me things like that?"

"Hey, do you want the help or not?"

"Who are you talking to?" Toriel asked.

"Please don't say anything." The voice pleaded.

"...Myself!" Peter replied. "I, uh, do that."

Toriel looked saddened. "You must be a lonely child."

"I'm 16." Peter replied, continuing to follow her. The next puzzle was a bridge of spikes, no lever in sight.

"This is the puzzle, but..." Toriel looked concerned. "Here, take my hand for a moment."

"I can tell you that's un-" Peter's protests died down as Toriel took his hand and guided him along the path into the next room.

"You have done excellently thus far, my child." Toriel said. "Forgive me for the precautions, but this is truly a dangerous place."

Peter felt a nagging sense of something, but he brushed it off. "Sure thing. So what's the puzzle here?"

"I... have a difficult request to ask of you." Toriel replied. "Can you walk down this room by yourself?"

Before Peter could answer, Toriel walked off and seemingly out the door.

"Odd." He said, senses on end. Walking forward, he looked for signs of spikes or other creatures, but nothing happened. His spider-sense wasn't detecting anything either, so he continued along. When he got to the end of the room, Toriel walked out from behind a nearby pillar.

"Greetings, my child." She spoke warmly. "Do not worry, I did not leave you. I was merely behind this pillar the entire time."

"That was an unnecessary amount of-" Peter gestured about. "Emotions and stuff you gave me! What gives?"

"There was an important reason for that exercise!" Toriel exclaimed. "Of that I can assure you! I needed to test your independence, as I have to attend to some business, and you must stay here alone for awhile."

Peter calmed down. "That... makes sense, actually."

"Please remain here, as it's dangerous to go explore by yourself. In fact..." Toriel reached into her robe and pulled out a cell phone. "Here. If you need anything, just call."

"You have cell phones?" Peter flipped it open, and noticed that Toriel looked a bit puzzled by his statement. "Oh, that's good! My mask comm was broken by my fall so I don't actually have any way to contact anyone. How much service do you get?"

Toriel chuckled. "Enough, my child. Now, I must be off. Be good, alright?"

After she walked off, Peter fiddled with the phone a bit.

"You should move on." Chara noted.

"Toriel told me to stay here." Peter replied. "Besides, last time I trusted someone down here trying to help me, I was nearly spittballed by "friendliness pellets." "

"Look, I have no clue who that flower was." She replied. "But I'm just as confused as you are. And I have a feeling waiting for mo- Toriel, to get back is going to get us nowhere. C'mon, I promise I just want to give advice and aid when I can."

Peter thought for a moment. "So you're not a possible psychopath who will murder me if I do something you don't like?"

"Not unless you deserve it." Chara replied, somewhat crossly. "Now come on, I've seen your moves. The ruins is not that dangerous of a place anyways..."
