"So few of us left."

"Get on the Ground!"

"Please no..."

"We found another one..."

"I have a child..."

"Don't let it escape..."

"Professor?"

"I found them. They're waiting for us in Japan."

Nagasaki, Japan

A black plane landed at the entrance of an abandoned Shinto temple. The plane descended gently, as to not damage the area or draw any attention.

The planes fell.

ZIP!

A figure zoomed out used the plane in an instant. The same figure zoomed around the entire temple, covering every square inch in an instant.

The figure returned to the plane, revealing itself to be a young man in a black and silver bodysuit. He had dark hair with silver tips and amber eyes.

"It's clear. Only mutants here."

One by one, more figures descended the plane.

The first was a man in a yellow and gray suit. His spiked hair was pulled back, with white streaks at his temples.

Next came a dark-skinned woman wearing blue. She had white hair, and her eyes were white as well.

Behind her, a paralyzed woman followed. She sat in a floating chair, with three panels covering her head and keeping her brown hair in check.

The pilot came next. A man in a white trench coat and a black suit. He had blue eyes and blonde hair.

Following him was a red-haired woman in a red suit and white gloves.

Once all five of them were outside the plane, the sixth and final person walked out. He was wearing a black metallic bodysuit and had a dark cape flowing behind him. His hair and beard were graying, but his violet eyes were as sharp as ever.

The walked through to the opening of the temple. There, six more people were waiting for them.

One was a heavily built man in a sleeveless red and yellow suit. There was a woman with pink hair and bones growing from her arms and head. A large dark-skinned man with red eyes dressed in red and black. Behind them all was a skinny young man with white hair and blue eyes. His outfit was reminiscent of a straightjacket.

"Lelouch! Nunnally!" A blue-skinned figure jumped from the ceiling of the entrance. He had three fingers, yellow eyes, pointed ears, and a tail. Lelouch nodded at him.

"It's wonderful to see you Rivalz. And I'm glad to see you found Rai" Nunnally responded from her chair. The young white-haired man nodded.

"Kallen!"

A final figure, a man with red hair in a ponytail wearing red sunglasses, yelled. The woman in red responded.

"Naoto! You're ok!"

The two ran to hug each, happy that the other was alright.

"Cyclops" Lelouch nodded curtly.

"Magneto" Naoto responded with an even tone, even as his eyes showed his displeasure.

"Now that we're all here, we might want to talk strategy" Todoh interjected.

"He's right," Rivalz agreed. "The sentinels might have trouble tracking individual mutants, but all of us being together means that it won't take long for them to find us."

"That's the same reason I didn't want to do this. It puts us all in unnecessary danger" Naoto argued.

"I'm afraid this danger is necessary" Lelouch responded. This earned him a glare from Naoto.

"And what gives you the right to judge what's necessary? After everything you've done, why should we trust you?"

Naoto might have continued if Cyrus hadn't appeared in front of him.

"Naoto, we don't have time for this. He's on our side, so calm down."

"Calm down?! It's easy for you to defend him, you're his son. But the rest of us..."

"Naoto. Enough." Todoh was one of the few with military experience, and he had rank. Everyone listened when he spoke. They almost didn't need a reminder of what happened to those who didn't listen.

"Thank you, Todoh" Nunnally said, getting everyone's attention. "He's right, we don't have time to fight amongst ourselves. If we don't want to die as the last of our kind, we need to work together."

Everyone stayed quiet, even Naoto. They knew what was at stake. But they trusted Nunnally (mostly). They were willing to hear her plan.

"Now, what is the plan?" Gino asked Nunnally.

She sighed. "First, we should gather somewhere more private."

All of the mutants present at the temple sat around a fire. Not everyone was on friendly terms with one another, but they all knew they had to work together.

"You called us here Nunnally. What's this about?" Rivalz asked.

Nunnally cleared her throat and settled into her chair. This was not going to be an easy discussion.

"As you all know, the Sentinel Program was initially conceived in 2017 by an up-and-coming expert in the field of science. Nina Einstein."

That name elicited a response from everyone present. Some were of regret. Most were of anger. But Nunnally continued.

"A genius burdened by terrible xenophobia, Einstein began work on a project that sought to have our people eradicated. This work would have taken decades, if not for the capture of a certain mutant."

"Mystique," Todoh stated.

"Yes. One of my followers," Lelouch said with a saddened frown. "One of my most trusted soldiers. A friend I condemned to unspeakable torture."

"Unfortunately, he's right," Nunnally said, getting back everyone's attention. "It was the Mystique's unique shapeshifting mutation that Einstein and her team studied. With her power, they were able to empower their machines on a more advanced schedule."

"This is a nice history lesson" Naoto interrupted. "But what does that have to do with our problems right now?"

"Yeah. I mean everyone already knows all of this" Rai agreed.

Nunnally sighed before turning to Lelouch. It was his turn to speak now.

"We are aware that these events are common knowledge. However, there are other events that also play a role in causing this war. In creating despair for our people."

Lelouch and Cyrus shared a brief look at each other, but neither said anything.

"If this plan that Nunnally and I have constructed is too work, you must all know the full story."

Everyone perked in when they heard this.

"The events that led to today all started when I decided that the time for hiding was over. There were events before that, but the path we all walk on started when I decided to strike back in 2017."

So this is what I'm working with for now. The next chapter will show Lelouch in his younger years.

I had fun writing this Lelouch. He is older, wiser, more world-weary, and I always liked the idea of him with a beard for some reason. He would be in his mid-fifties at this time, so it makes sense to me.

And yes, Cyrus is his son. If you want to guess the mutant he is based off, or who his mother is (was), be my guest.

And yes, the story will mostly focus on the events that led to this "Days of Future Past" inspired setting that the mutants of this world will try to fight. It will be fun once the two timelines meet.

And as for the characters that I introduced here, anyone wants to take a guess who is who?

I'll give a hint for Todoh. Both him and the X-Man he is the proxy of have the same voice actor.
