Weiss Schnee was not looking forward to this Spring Break. Sure, it was about time that she worked on a tan, and yes, relaxing a bit before the hell week that is finals for her courses was highly recommended by many reputable journals and many of her friends. Which is why she was still agreeing to going despite what the journey entailed.

A rhythmic knock at the door turned Weiss' head from the TV to the door of her apartment. The pale girl sighed as she stood up and walked over to the door.

A clumsy strum of the guitar and a blonde boy greeted her as she opened the door, regret very much real as he opened his mouth. "Weiss Schneee~" he began and immediately she closed the door on his face, turning around to lean back on the door. "Wha-Oh come on Weiss! It was just a joke! A callback!" the man's voice was muffled behind the door.

"Wasn't funny when we dated, it's not funny afterward." Weiss shook her head. The girl sighed as she got off the door and opened it again to see her ex-boyfriend, Jaune Arc, smiling at her. "Now get in here and help me get the ice boxes into your van soon." Weiss pointed at her kitchen.

"You mean the Jaunemobile, right?" Jaune smiled at Weiss causing her to roll her eyes.

"Just get the stuff loaded; I don't want Yang yelling at us because they've already run out of their supply of beer." As if on cue, Weiss' scroll went off. "Speaking of…" She picked up the call as Jaune went into the kitchen. "Hello Yang."

"Heyyyy Weissicle!" Yang slurred on the other end of the call. Weiss pinched the bridge of her nose. "Just wanted to check in on you and Ruby and Jaune, I know that it was lame of us to go on ahead of you guys!"

Ah yes. Weiss Schnee got stuck on babysitting duty. See, a week before Spring Break had officially started Yang, Blake, Ren, Pyrrha, and Nora had already finished their assignments but Weiss hadn't finished a project, Jaune had still had to work his pizza delivery job for 3 more days, and Ruby being a goody-two-shoes Senior in High School she couldn't really just dip out early either. Everyone was fine waiting for a few more days so that Jaune, Ruby, and Weiss could finish their work, until the hotel they made reservations with said that they needed to get there or they might have to give their rooms to other guests. Something about a surplus of people going to the Beach suddenly? Weiss didn't really pay much attention when they had the meeting as she was studying.

"Yeah, no, it's fine. I totally enjoy being stuck in my ex-boyfriend's weird van for 8 hours just to watch a horrible re-enactment of the famous "will they, won't they?" but they will, it's just 4 painful seasons of watching them step around the issue entirely." Weiss sighed.

Yang laughed on the other side. "Give them a break, or are you just jealous cause your best friend is crushing on your ex?"

Weiss rolled her eyes before walking to her room to get her suitcase. "As if. That boat has sailed long ago, Yang Xiao-Long. Besides I'm focusing on my studies right now. Yang blew a raspberry on the other end of the line before booing.

"Boo!" a woman's voice, Blake, Weiss assumed, muttered in the background. "Anyway, gotta go Weissy! Make sure that Ruby and Jaune don't end up driving into a lake or something."

"What? That's stupid, how would one even go about doing that?"

"Well, they said their GPS told them to make a turn or something but it was like a ramp thing into a lake? I don't know, you'd have to ask Ruby. Those two dorks would follow the stupid GPS blindly if unchecked..."

"Right..." Weiss could feel a headache coming on. "You know what? Not my problem, I just need to get in the backseat with my headphones in while I nap and those two dolts can flirt all they want."

"Hehe, hey if you could get those two to finally hookup when I've failed for three years I'd give you all the money in my wallet right now."

"Whatever, bye Yang."

"Later Weiss!"

Weiss hung up the call and almost instantly a knock was heard on the door frame of her room. The white-haired girl turned to see her ex-boyfriend rapping on the wooden entrance to her room. "All the coolers are loaded up Weiss, ready to head to Ruby's?"

Weiss quickly closed her light blue suitcase and picked it up. "Sure, let's head to your van."

"The Jaunemobile!" Jaune corrected as she passed by him.

"I refuse to call that hunk of junk the Jaunemobile." Weiss rolled her eyes as she made her way to the living room and picked up spare chargers, her tote bag, and some snacks for later.

"I promise, I cleaned it up some more since we dated." Jaune opened the door leading outside and Weiss followed him, locking the door on her way out.

Weiss looked to the beat-up van parked across the street of her apartment complex. "Still looks like the same beat-up jalopy you drove when we dated." Weiss sighed as she followed him to the yellow van.

The Van was bought by Jaune on his small part-time salary about two years ago. Where he bought the old van he refuses to ever say, but Weiss can assume by the faded logo on the shift and painted over in the side of the van that the van previously belonged to a catering service.

Weiss slid the side door of the back and paled. "You have got to be kidding."

In the back of the van in place where 4 empty seats would be there was now a very clean and new mattress with two pillows and a single blanket laid out in an attempt to make it look more like a bed. Scattered about the mattress and the rest of what was left of the van's floor were articles of clothing.

"Seriously Jaune Arc?! You turned your van into a hook-up machine!?" Weiss "lightly" punched her ex-boyfriend on the arm. "Seriously?!"

"Ow! I can explain!" Jaune rubbed the sore spot on his arm and sighed. "So Neptune and Sun invited me to a party they were going to along with Sage and Scarlet, and well, things happened and one of the seats broke." Jaune scratched the back of his head. "Well after that it looked really awkward to only have three seats.

"So you took the rest out?"

"Yep!" Another hit from Weiss "Ouch!"

"That has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard...but it lines up exactly with something you would do." Weiss sighed as she crawled into the back of the van and laid down on the mattress. "This is...oddly comfortable. Is this memory foam?"

Jaune nodded as he closed the side door and rushed to the driver's seat. "I figured if I'm going to get basically a new bed I might as well spring for a nice one. It took a couple extra shifts but I was able to buy one of those new sleek mattresses." Jaune turned the keys to his van and after a minute of sputtering noises the engine roared to life.

"There we go!" Jaune began putting the coordinates on his GPS machine he bought.

"Is this even approved to be driven?" Weiss adjusted herself on the bed and looked up at the back of Jaune's head as the van began to move.

"It was approved when I first got it...but no I don't think it'd fly inspection now."

Weiss shook her head. "Whatever..." she watched some movie she found in Dustny+ on her Scroll until she realized the van had reached a park with that familiar noise of the old engine on the Jaunemobile turning off with some extra clanks thrown in there for good measure.

"We're here." Jaune smiled as he opened his door and walked to slide open Weiss' door as it had broken long ago and only opened on the outside. Weiss looked out to the nice house in the middle of the suburban neighborhood, Ruby's house. Or more like, Mr. Xiao-Long's house.

"You gonna call her?"

"Hm? O-Oh yeah!" Jaune pulled out his scroll from his pocket but hovered over the contact for Ruby's smiling face. "You know maybe you should call her? You know she's always telling me that she wishes you would call more." Jaune nervously smiled.

"What is she my mom?" Weiss looked at Jaune's face. Something was up, Jaune wouldn't hesitate to call up Ruby at any given time, so why the weird attitude now? "Jaune did something hap-"

As Weiss said that the door to the Xiao-Long household burst open revealing Ruby with a straw sun hat on he head, sunglasses on her face and a light red Ukulele in her hand. "Weiss! Vomit boy!" Ruby began rushing towards the van.

Jaune smiled and ran towards Ruby. "Crater Face! ROAD TRIIIP!"

"ROAD TRIIIP! WOOP WOOP!"

"Vomit-Crater? You guys haven't used those nicknames in years." Weiss said to no one in particular as the two dorks met in the middle and hugged before Jaune turned the hug into a noogie. "Noogies? What are you twe-?" as she said this Ruby struggled out of the noogie before turning the tide and holding Jaune in a sloppy headlock.

"Say Uncle!"

"Never surrender!" Jaune yelled as he tried to get out of Ruby's hold in vain.

Weiss raised an eyebrow. Her friends being unbearably close had always been a sight she was used to, but this was different. This was like when they were Juniors, this playful aura seemed more like a father and a daughter...it creeped her out.

"Alright! Alright! Sometimes surrender! Uncle!" Jaune cried out. Ruby released him and he took desperate breaths. "Jeez Rubels, I see Yang's self-defense homeschooling is hella effective." Jaune sighed.

Ruby put her hands on her fist. "Yeah! Now go get my stuff as punishment for losing!" She giggled.

"Alright, alright. In your room?"

"Yeah! Thanks Vomit Boy!" Ruby smiled as she then turned to the van and saw Weiss. Her composure changed and she visibly shifted to a calmer voice. "Hello Weiss."

Weiss looked at her best friend up and down. "What...the hell was that?"

"Hm? What was what?"

"That! All the playtime stuff!? You two aren't twelve, why the hell are you both acting weird around each other?"

Ruby frowned. "You can tell?"

"Ruby, blind bats could see that." Weiss shook her head, her face turned serious. "What happened between you two?"

Ruby blushed and looked down. "N...nothing..."

"Oh come on that's like the most cliche'd version to say that something did happen! Come on Ruby, tell me what happened." Weiss sat down on the door frame of the van before patting the space next to her.

Ruby sighed before giving in and sitting down next to her.

"I...I just don't know Weiss! We went out yesterday to go watch a movie to celebrate me getting to Spring Break and then we like went to the park and stuff but it was night time and creepy so we just locked the doors and laid in the bed."

Weiss gave her a look.

"N-not like that! I swear! We're just friends...I think..." Ruby looked down at her feet. "Anyway so we were joking around and Jaune taped his scroll to the roof of his van above the mattress so we could watch a movie."

Weiss turned around to see there was infact a small bit of tape on the roof. "Huh...how did I not see...whatever. Okay so you guys hung out and watched a movie, how the hell is that any different than literally any other day you two are together?"

"Because!" Ruby whined out. "Because this time there was a thing..."

"A thing?"

"A thing!"

"What kind of thing Ruby?" Weiss looked at her best friend fidgeting.

"So there was this really funny moment in the movie and then Jaune setup the perfect opportunity for a joke so I turned to face him...thing is that he did it at the same time too!" Ruby blushed so much. "Our faces were thiiiiis close to each other, Weiss!" Ruby made a pinching motion with her fingers.

"I...okay? So what?"

"He...he kissed me." Ruby buried her face in her hands.

Weiss' eyes widened. "O-oh...well...I didn't know Jaune had it in him."

"Then he got super nervous and red in the face before backing off and running to the bathroom. I didn't even get a chance to tell him that I...ike...it." Ruby muttered the rest of her sentence.

"I'm sorry what was that last part?"

"I didn't get a chance to tell him that I...liked it..." Ruby buried her face in her hands. "And then! He came back and called me kiddo and I might've called him buddy and then next thing I know he's dropping me off at home and instead of our usual hug, he goes for a handshake and then we have this moment where we just keep trading between the two awkwardly without doing either!" Ruby sighed before falling back on the floor of the van.

Weiss looked at her friend in this blushing state of mess that she currently was.

"And then he just headpatted me! He acted like the kiss never happened!"

The white-haired girl looked down at her friend. She needed the right words to sum up her sympathy for her friend's troubles right now.

"Oof." Weiss said as she looked forward.

Ruby sat up rapidly, "And since then we've just been, "Hey Kiddo!" "Hey Budster!" with each other and I just want it to end!"

'Me too, this is getting ridiculous'

"Ruby do you think that maybe you and Jaune have regressed your complex relationship into just the most basic standards of friends because you both are trying to subconsciously wanting to preserve it?"

"Man, that semester of Psych must've been a doozy Weiss." Ruby pessimistically quipped.

"I'm serious you dolt. What if you two are awkward about the kiss because you both want to start something but you two think that as it stands something about your relationship is impeding you from doing that."

Ruby looked at Weiss. "Not that I'm agreeing with you...but what would you say that thing is? What about our relationship are we weirded out about?"

Weiss put a finger to her chin. "Well...maybe it is your age? Jaune is roughly a little more than a year older than you? He recently got accepted into a faraway college, a pretty big named one and he's transferring next game, the year you would enter college too right?"

Ruby frowned. "I guess..."

"And your plan was to do two years of Community College to raise your grades right? Well maybe you seeing Jaune going to a far away college is making you realize maybe on a subconscious level makes him seem much older than you, and maybe a part of you is freaked out by that?" Weiss sighs. "Maybe he thinks that way too. Honestly, I think you two should just talk to each other."

Ruby sighed. "I guess...I don't know I jus-" at that moment Jaune came out of the door holding two suit cases, one red and the other Yellow.

"Jaune! You took forever bud!" Ruby smiled quickly before running up to Jaune leaving Weiss behind.

"Yeah! Yang called me and told me to get all her hair products and a few swimsuits and that's when your dad walked in...man that was an awkard conversation..."

As Jaune and Ruby began to talk about stuff, Weiss could tell they were tense. Her eyes wandered to the red Ukulele Ruby left behind and then to Jaune's GPS.

'Those two dorks would follow the stupid GPS blindly if unchecked' Yang's words echoed in Weiss' head.

"I swear to GODS Yang better have a lot of cash on that wallet of hers." Weiss sighed, picked up the Ukulele and placed it in the passenger's seat before pressing a few buttons on Jaune's GPS.

After retreating to the bed again she pulled up her suitcase and laid out most of her clothes.

Jaune and Ruby approached the van to see Weiss looking over her clothes with scrutiny. "Hey guys." she said, not looking away from the clothes. "I call dibs on all of the bed, sorry not sorry." she said as she picked up a top. "Really need to find matches for beach outfits, Ruby can take passenger seat.

Ruby's eyes widened, her lips twitched into a smile. "Whaaaat, that's ruude WEISS." Ruby said, trying to convey her message subtly to her best friend. Weiss however, being puppet master extraordinaire here shook her head.

"Sorry Ruby, but this is crucial, a Schnee must look their best and all that. "Weiss picked up a set before dismissing it.

Jaune sighed before nervously turning to Ruby, she did the same. The two made eye contact before they both turned away to look at different things.

"Look, it's no problem Kid-...Ruby! You can show me what you got learned so far on the Ukulele, you said you had a song you wanted to show me yester...day..."

"A-ah right! Yesterday...Well, let's get going then!"

As the two awkwardly got in the front seats and started up the Jaunemobile, Jaune looked at the GPS.

"12 hours?! What the?!" Weiss smiled as he plan was beginning. "Why would Ren make the reservation that far away?" despite his complaints Jaune began the drive towards what would then be known as the most important Road Trip in Jaune and Ruby's relationship.
