A/N: Hey guys! I'm answering another milma verse challenge. I hope you all enjoy.
Prompt:Crisis in Infinite Earths changed the worlds, but also changed the history and relationships between two characters.
A knocking on a door woke Barry up. When he opened his eyes, he found himself in an office. After a quick observation, he could see it was the Gideon room repurposed to be an office. Looking down at himself, he could see he was wearing a button up shirt, slacks and a lab coat. Barry was confused; the last thing he remembered was Crisis. They defeated the Anti-Monitor. Oliver had reset the world at the cost of his life. The knocking was heard again breaking his concentration.
"C-come in!" Barry called unsure what to do. Caitlin came in holding a tablet; Barry let out a relieved sigh. He was content to see a familiar face.
"Good morning Barry" Caitlin greeted cheerfully. "I just came to tell you that the board meeting has been rescheduled to this Thursday at 1pm."
"Board meeting?"
"Yes." She looked at Barry to see his confused look "The board meeting discussing the new product releases."
"Oh, yeah right that. Thank you, Cait." Barry decided to just play along.
"Also! Your wife is in the lobby waiting for you. I'll be in the cave if you need me." Caitlin mentioned as she walked out of the office. Barry looked at his left hand to see there was still a ring on his ring finger; this one was gold rather than the usual silver.
"What kind of world did you leave me with Oliver?" Barry whispered to himself.
It took a little while for him to find the lobby. Apparently on this new Earth, Barry brought STAR labs back from the dead after Thawne gave it to him. It has become a force of good in the scientific community. Reaching the lobby, he was surprised to see Kara waiting instead of Iris.
"Kara?"
"Barry? Oh, thank Rao!" she ran up to him and gave him a big hug. "Wait! It is you, right?" she asked pulling back a bit.
"Yeah. Do you know what's going on? Last thing I remember is Crisis and now I'm here."
"You're telling me. I woke up in an apartment I've never seen before. There was a note telling me I had a lunch date here at STAR. Which confuses me. I never had a STAR on my Earth." Kara told him.
"Maybe Oliver combined our worlds during his reset?" Barry noticed Kara had a ring on her left hand; it matched his in color. "Uh, Kara? Don't freak out, but I think we are married." He told her as he lifted up his hand to show her his ring. Kara looked down at her own and noticed her ring.
"What the what?!"
"I guess you two could use some explanations." Barry and Kara turned around to see Oliver standing a few feet from them.
"Oliver?" The two heroes said.
"The one and the same." The archer gave his friends a smirk. "Let's head to your office Barry. And I will explain everything."
"Wow! This is awesome." Kara cheered as the trio walked into Barry's office.
"Yeah, it looks like you've done well for yourself." Oliver added.
"Thanks to you." Barry took a seat behind his desk while Kara and Oliver took the two seats opposite of him.
"Well, it seemed like you were no longer a CSI; maybe your heart wasn't in it anymore. I just thought it would be a waste if you didn't use that brain of yours." Barry couldn't even remember the last time he did anything CSI related. It seemed like he spent more time being the Flash than a CSI.
"I see your point there. Now, can you explain this world you created?" Both Kara and Barry gave the archer their undivided attention.
"Ok. Well, for starters, I combined ours, Kara's and Black Lightning's Earth; creating Earth Prime."
"Cisco would approve." Barry interrupted with a chuckle.
"So, if all of our Earth's are combined, are the histories a bit different?" Kara asked intrigued.
"A little, yeah." Oliver answered. "Here; Superman made his debut a year before Black Lightning retired."
"What about us? How did we all meet?" Barry inquired.
"The way you and I met is still the same. However, you met Kara differently." Both Kara and Barry looked at Oliver with raised eyebrows.
"How so?" Kara asked.
Barry was running for his life towards National City; thank god it was not too far from Central. "Cisco where am I going? I've never been to National." Barry was on pace to catch a falling plane. How? Well that was still a work in progress.
"It's on route to hit National City Bridge." Cisco replied and gave him the directions. Barry pushed himself to limit to make it to the bridge. When he arrived, he immediately started to evacuate civilians from their cars off the bridge. Turning his attention to the falling plane, Barry could see two engines were on fire.
"Cisco, how am I going to save the people on the plane?"
"Unless fake Jay taught you how to phase something as big as a bridge, your ideas are as good as anything I can think of." Was the reply he received.
Looking more closely at the falling aircraft, Barry could see a person under it, leveling it out.
"Cisco, there's someone under the plane. Carrying it!"
"Is it Superman?" Cisco sounded excited. In his defense, Superman was known for catching planes.
"No." Looking a bit closer, Barry concluded it definitely wasn't Superman. "It's a woman!" As he was talking to Cisco, the mysterious woman was able to turn the plane so that it could pass through the bridge with minimal damage. "Wow!" was all Barry could say.
Once the plane cleared the bridge, Barry went to the edge to look at the aircraft. He was able to make out someone climbing on the right wing of the plane. It was the woman. Before she could flee the scene, Barry ran, scooped her up and took her all the way to STAR Labs.
Kara barely had time to process the fact that she just saved her sister from a plane crash before she was practically transported to a new location. Once she was put down, she quickly assessed her surroundings. She was in a lab. And she wasn't alone. Sitting at a semi-circular table was a long-haired Hispanic man and a woman with autumn colored hair.
"Who are you?" A voice behind her asked. Turning around, Kara came face to face with Central City's hero; the Flash. Her eyes became wide in shock as she took a few steps back.
"You're the Flash!"
"The lightning bolt emblem gives it away." He smirked, "Who are you?"
"I-I…" Kara stuttered.
"Hey, you're not in trouble. I saw you save the plane. You're a hero."
"No. At least I don't think I am." Kara sighed. "I've never done this before, someone close to me was on the plane and I just reacted."
"Well you just saved a bunch of people from dying. I'd say you're a hero." The long-haired man told her. "I'm Cisco. I'm the tech genius around here. Also, if you need a suit, I'm your guy." He introduced himself and held out his hand for her to shake.
"Hi." Was all Kara said as she shook his hand.
"That over there is Caitlin Snow. She is the team's doctor and keeps the Flash from dying." Kara just waved towards the doctor.
"Listen." The Flash spoke up. "I know this is all new to you. I've been doing this for two years and I'm still learning. If you want to be a hero, you are welcomed here."
"T-thanks. Where exactly is here?" The ride over was so fast, Kara couldn't make out any surrounding building to let her know where she was
"STAR Labs." Flash told her. Suddenly, Kara's phone started to ring; checking it, she saw it was Alex.
"I have to go." With that she took off.
"Wow." All three members of team Flash said in unison.
It took a few days, but Kara found herself back in STAR labs. Cisco and Caitlin were there, but the Flash was out on patrol. Kara wanted to be like her cousin; she wanted to save people and these people would help her.
The Flash came in and saw her, "Thought about my offer?" He smiled at her.
"I want to be like my cousin." He looked at her with a confused look. "Superman."
His eyes widened. "You're Superman's cousin?" Kara nodded, "This is going to be awesome. But first." He lifted his hands to his cowl and took it off revealing a man with messy brown hair and piercing green eyes. For a second, Kara's heart sped up. "I'm Barry Allen; the Fastest man alive."
"Kara Danvers." She smiled back at him.
"What happened then?" Kara asked
"Barry introduced you to me. And we've been training at least once a month; getting better with our fighting skills." Oliver answered.
"That's actually smart. Should have done that before." Barry said. "Also, not that I'm complaining, but how are your alive?" This had been on his mind for a while.
Oliver chuckled, "I didn't want to die. I had some unfinished business. And to keep it frank, I needed a restart as well."
"How so?" Barry asked, interested.
"I am not with Felicity." Barry and Kara looked at Oliver shocked. "When I reset the universe, I was able to see everything that happened, and I didn't like what I saw." Oliver dragged a hand down his face, "Felicity made me into a completely different man. She seemed to always make things about herself."
Thinking about it now Barry could see how Felicity liked to be the center of attention. Just like Iris. Barry was just now realizing that Iris seemed to always put herself in the middle of business she had nothing to do with. I mean she made herself the leader of team Flash; she wasn't close to being qualified.
"Wow Oliver. So, what's new with you then?" Kara asked.
"Well, I was still a spoiled billionaire brat, but the Gambit didn't sink in a storm, so my father didn't kill himself for me to survive. Instead, I drunkenly fell off my yacht and washed up on Lian Yu. I wasn't trapped there for five years; it was seven months. I had to learn archery to survive. I found out the island was being used for a drug operation. I stopped them and used one of their boats to come home. Once, here I proposed to Laurel, and we married soon after and have been married since."
Barry and Kara had their jaws on the floor.
"So, no cheating Oliver?" Kara asked
"Nope. Just a bit of a douche." Oliver smirked.
"Okay, I think I speak for both me and Barry when I ask this: What is the deal with us being together?"
"Well, to be honest, I've always seen this connection between you two. And I figured with your failed love lives, you would two would make a nice…couple."
"Failed? Do I have to point out to you that I was married?" Barry interjected; he wasn't opposed to the idea of being with Kara, he thought she was amazing and beautiful. However, he was curious on why Oliver split him and Iris up.
"Oh, please Barry. Anyone with half a brain could tell that Iris didn't love you." Oliver responded flatly. "When we switched lives, she was drooling over me more than she ever did for you."
Barry was about to protest, but he really thought about what Oliver said; and it was true. Ever since he was little, Iris had never showed a liking to him; then he became the Flash and when she found out she was more interested in him. Once, he told her about their Earth 2 counterparts being married, she looked at him differently. Deep down Barry knew Iris didn't love him, she just liked the idea of being with a hero.
"I'm sorry to be blunt Barry but I just want what's best for you." Barry was too preoccupied with his thoughts that he hadn't noticed Oliver come up on his side.
"So." Barry started rubbing the back of his neck, "How did me and Kara get to be together."
Kara was lying on her couch with a box of doughnuts on her lap. She had on civilian clothes, but her shirt was open so that the top of her Supergirl outfit was showing. She wasn't in the best of moods. Last week, she was exposed to Lord's synthetic Kryptonite. However, instead of making Kara weaker, it made her uncontrollably angry. She lashed out at her friends and lost the trust of National City. She was lashed out to Alex, Hank, Winn and even Ms. Grant. But the worse was Barry.
For the last few months, she and Barry have been flirting around each other. Both lacking the courage to speak on the ever-growing tension between them. But under the influence of Red K, graciously named by Cisco, Kara took a chance to finally have Barry. But, when she sensed Barry's hesitation, she blew up at him. Yelling at him to stop playing with her emotions and 'grow some balls.' She has been collectively avoiding him ever since.
Ms. Grant forgave her almost right away. Alex was just as quick. Winn and Hank never held what she said against her; but what was Barry feeling. Kara has come to care so much about the speedster it was borderline crazy, according to Alex and Caitlin. He was the first person to help her become a hero. He's motivated and kind; always willing to help. And she may have destroyed that bridge.
Kara's sulking was interrupted by a gust of wind and, the sound of electricity. She mentally slapped herself in the forehead for forgetting that she left the window open and Barry can run up walls. She prepared herself for him to be upset or angry.
When she got off her couch, she was immediately engulfed in the warm embrace of Barry Allen. It took her a moment to realize what was happening, but after a few seconds she returned the hug.
'I'm so sorry" she whispered hugging the speedster tighter.
"It's ok Kara. I don't blame you." He told her.
"But you should!" she practically yelled, releasing herself from Barry's embrace. "The things I did were bad, but they were things I thought of. The Red K just took away my self-control."
"B-"
"Barry, I like you. I've liked you for a while now. Ever since you started training me basically. And I've noticed that maybe you liked me too. And we've been tip toeing around each other for what feels like forever! And it's just been driving me crazy and I just wa-" Kara's rant was stopped when she felt a pair of warm lips on hers. It was Barry's. She could feel his electricity flow through her, giving her butterflies. After a minute, the two separated.
"I-I don't understand. You're not mad?" Kara looked up at Barry.
"Like I said, I don't blame you. You weren't in control of yourself."
"A-and the kiss?"
"You were right." Kara looked at him confused. "it was time for me to grow some balls. I've liked you for a while now too. There was just this connection I felt towards you from the moment we met."
Kara and Barry smiled at each other and went in for another kiss.
"Barry!" Kara called out as she entered their apartment. The pair have been dating for almost two years and have been living together in Central for about six months. Kara still protected National City but, was also protecting Central City with the Flash; and Barry helped out in National as well.
"In here." She heard Barry call out from the home office. They had turned the extra bedroom they had into an office space for both of them. That way Kara could write her articles and Barry could build his latest project. Currently, he is working on an AI for his suit. Cisco had retired from the hero business, going to live on Earth-19 with Gypsy. Caitlin was still around but would need help, thus the idea for Gideon was born.
Kara came into to the room to see Barry was working on some parts for Gideon. "Is dinner almost ready? I've got some great news."
"Yeah, it's in the oven. I was just about to check it now." He got up and gave Kara a kiss before walking towards the kitchen to check on their dinner. "So, I know you. You won't be able to hold in whatever news you have until dinner so spill." He turned to face her after taking out the two trays of lasagna out the oven to cool off.
"I got a Pulitzer!" She yelled excitedly.
"That's great!" Barry picked her up in a hug and spun her around.
"I don't know how this day could get any better." Kara said as Barry put her down.
"I can think of one thing." Kara looked at Barry with a puzzled look. The look was soon replaced with shock when she saw Barry go onto one knee. "I was going to wait until dessert, but I think now is a good time." He pulled out a silver case and opened it revealing a ring. "My great-grandfather gave this to my great-grandmother after World War II. He wanted to propose before he was shipped out, but he didn't have the money. And he bought this three years later when he was stationed in London. Fought his way across France, all the way to Berlin, and this ring around his neck with his dog tags. And when he got back, she was waiting for him on the dock of the Brooklyn Navy Yards. He proposed on the spot. After my mom passed away, Joe held on to this for me until tonight." Kara had her hands up to her mouth and joyful tears in her eyes. "Kara Zor-El, will you marry me?"
"Yes! Yes! Yes! A million times yes!" Barry put the ring on her finger. Kara picked him up to his feet and gave him a kiss. "Oh Rao! I love you."
"I love you too."
"And here we are." Oliver said
"Wow." Both Kara and Barry said together. Throughout Oliver's story, they could barely look at each other. It's not that they didn't like each, it's that this whole situation was weird.
"What about the others? The other paragons must have memories of the old timeline." Barry said to break the awkwardness in the room
"You would be correct. Come on, we have somewhere to be." Oliver got up and moved towards the door.
The three left STAR labs and took a cab to the hanger they used for the Dominator invasion. When they entered; Kate, Sara, and J'onn were waiting at a large table. In the center of the table was a big JL surrounded by a star.
"Hey guys." Sara said as everyone got up to greet Kara and Barry.
"Thank Rao you guys remember the old timeline. I thought I had lost my mind when I woke up here." Kara gave J'onn a big hug in greeting.
"Okay!" Oliver called out as he clapped his hands together, "I wanted you all here because we have some things to discuss." Everyone sat down at the table again. "You guys don't remember this place, but it is the Justice League's HQ for the time being. We formed the league so that we can come together when situations call for it. For, example when the Nazi's invaded and interrupted Barry and Kara's wedding. All of you are members along with others who aren't here at the moment. I gathered you all here because none of you remember your lives in this new world." Oliver walked over to J'onn putting his hand on the man's shoulder. "Me and J'onn are going to help with that. He will use my memories to fill in the blanks you guys need to feel more at home here."
One by one, J'onn and Oliver restored everyone's memories. They were all still able to remember the way things were before crisis but, new memoires were added.
"Yeah, that is a lot to take in." Kate spoke after receiving her memories. "If it's all the same with you, I'm going to the closest bar and getting a drink." Everyone nodded in agreement and followed Kate.
Barry and Kara were the only ones who stayed behind. After a few awkward moments, Barry finally spoke. "So, how is this going to work? You know, being married and all."
"I'm not sure." Kara adjusted her glasses. "With these new memories, I can see all the times we've had with each other and feel the love I have for you."
"But?" Barry knew there was a 'but' coming.
"But I never lived through it." He nodded in agreement with her. "I'm willing to try though. T-that is, if you are too?"
Barry walked up and gave Kara a hug that she returned. "I think Oliver had a good reason for putting us together. We do get along well and make a good duo." He was now hold Kara's hand in his, "And I feel happier here…with you. I was so caught up in Iris I was beginning to lose sight of who I am. Here, I know who I am. I like it. I would like to see what we can do together."
Kara smiled. She wrapped her arms around Barry's neck and pulled him in for a kiss. He smiled into the kiss, happy to know things were going to be alright.
Suddenly, Barry's watch started to sound. Looking at it, a small hologram of Gideon appeared. "Pardon the interruption Mr. Allen, but it appears a giant Beebo is attacking the downtown area."
"Beebo?" Barry shared a confuse look with Kara, "Thanks Gideon." The hologram disappeared
"I guess superhero work never rests." Kara said as she took off her glassed, activating the nanobots to create her costume.
"That is so cool!" Barry put his fist out and activated his Flash ring, then sped into his costume.
"That was cooler!" Kara cheered. "Shall we?"
"We shall."
