AN - This has been sitting in my completed folder for a while now, it's just some random Drabble. Not my most favourite of things I've written but I thought i'd share nonetheless.

Maybe I need you

Elizabeth sat at her state department desk; her elbows resting on the surface as her head hung in her hands. It had been a long and gruelling sixty-three hours. She squeezed her eyes shut and let out an exhausted sigh. She hadn't been home for days, she hadn't changed her outfit in the last twenty-four hours, and she hadn't slept at all.

When her phone rang off the hook early hours in the morning nearly three days ago she knew; she had that sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach before she even answered that something was seriously wrong, she didn't know if it was her years of CIA training or a gut feeling, but as strange as it sounded to everyone else the phone always sounded different when there was a crisis of great severity.

That call was no different, unfortunately she was proven right. Her chief of staff Nadine had called her to inform her that Russia had taken an American ship hostage. Of course many upon many of hours had passed since the initial incident however Russia were still claiming that America breeched Russia's sovereignty and America continued to deny and attempt to negotiate the safe release of the American navy seals.

Elizabeth lifted her head and opened her eyes, readjusting to the light in the room as she heard a knock and someone enter.

'Madam Secretary, your husband is on the phone' Blake spoke softly. He had also not left and much like Elizabeth was incredibly exhausted.

'Not now Blake, I'm trying to think" she dismissed him. Blake was taken a back, she had never denied a call with Henry. He frowned slightly and watched her resume her position, head in her hands and eyes squeezed shut. The sight of his boss set an off feeling in his stomach, so he retracted from the office and took the call from Henry himself, explaining to Henry, exactly what had just happened. Of course Henry instantly gathered something was wrong so hung up and set to leave the house.

Blake knocked on her office door and entered once again, a tired smile appeared on her face

'Just to let you know Madam Secretary, I believe Dr McCord is making his way over here to see you'

'What!? Why?' The slight panic and irritation growing inside.

'I am not sure Ma'am. Might be something to do with the fact you haven't been home for three day, and refused his call' Blake raised an eyebrow at her, the reply didn't sit right with her and she groaned inwardly.

'I'm busy Blake' her eyes narrowed on him. He dipped his head a little and backed out of the office, she was in no mood to be messed with and that was made very evident. Blake sat out side her office at his desk, the staff were attempting to manage the majority of the phone calls from officials through fear of Elizabeth's mood at present.

'Blake is she in there?" Henry interrupted him as he walked down the corridor or the seventh floor. Upon seeing him Blake stood and greeted his boss's husband.

'Dr McCord -'

'Henry' he corrected him and smiled softly

'Henry, she is. We're manning the desks. I'm not sure what's rattled her but, well I've never seen her refuse your calls'

'It's ok, she does that often. She's just tired and needs feeding' Henry laughed and patted Blake on the shoulder. 'Do me a favour, order some Chinese, the greasy kind' Henry asked as he walked towards her office. Blake nodded and set to ordering some food.

'Make it enough for you all Blake, I'll sort the bill" Henry called opening her office door. Elizabeth had moved from her desk, she was stood at the window, arms folded gazing out, clearly deep in thought.

'Arhhh, there is my wife. I was beginning to forget what you looked liken' he teased softly. Half of him was expecting her to bite his head off, then he would know the issue was work related. However when she mumbled and didn't shift her focus, Henry knew that meant the issue was personal.

'Sorry' The words bounced around the room, clinging to the air like the phrase was desperate to hold out for hope. Henry walked a little closer to her but kept his distance, he knew his wife. He knew the signals and understood that space was vital.

'What's wrong?" He asked. It was a simple ask but one that invited so many endless possibilities. Once again her gaze not removing from the window she replied,

'Just this whole situation with Russia, having Craig sterling involved who wants to go to war doesn't make way for easy negotiations' she dropped her arms and let out a slow breath.

'Ok, and now the real reason…" his voice was soft and tender. She turned to look at him, her eyes watering as she stood in disbelief that her husband saw right through her

'How did you know?" Her voice a broken whisper

'It's me, it's my duty to know Elizabeth" his whispers soothing her soul as he walked a little closer. A hand reaching out to her arm and softly squeezing it. Her body turned towards his a little more, the hurt written across her face striking Henry as he stood a few inches from her.

'I'm doing it aren't I, the very thing I said I wouldn't do. I'm putting this place above our family' her voice broke a little as she tried so hard to swallow the lump in her throat and blink the tears away. Henry didn't respond, he just remained close letting her know he was there, letting her know she was safe to continue talking.

'I mean, first Stevie moves out because of me, then I miss Ali's sixteenth because of Iran, and now Jason has broken up with piper, his first heartbreak and I'm not there. I should be there." Her body stiffened a little as the annoyance with herself tried to pour out.

'Woah; ok slow down. Stevie came around eventually, it was more her issue than yours, you did the right thing with her. As much as I hated you going to Iran and having to miss Ali's birthday well if you didn't who knows what state the world would be in now, she might not have got a seventeenth birthday. And as for Jason, well he will get over it'

'No Henry, he shouldn't have to get over it. He was so upset when I left that morning. I heard him crying in his room and I didn't have time to go in and check on him because I had to be in the situation room' she huffed. Henry smiled sadly at her,

'He's ok Elizabeth, I heard him too. I got up not long after you left and went to check on him. He didn't want to admit that he was crying, nor that he wanted his mom-'

'He wanted me!? God Henry that makes me feel so much worse.' She moved from him in frustration. 'Now I am up to my eyes in meetings and phone calls and I cannot even go and see my baby' her tears dripped from her eyes as she turned her back on Henry, beginning to pace in her office. Henry scratched his head and silently groaned at his slip up.

'Jason is fine Elizabeth, he will be fine'

'Which is it? Is he fine or he isn't fine but he will be?' She snapped And Henry frowned

'We don't talk to each other like that' he tried to remain calm as his eyes followed her back and forth.

'No Henry we don't, but we also don't keep things from one another. You've known for nearly three days that Jason wanted his mom and you haven't told me!' She knew deep down she was slightly blowing things out of proportion but all her emotions were mixed with hunger and sleep deprivation, an unhealthy combination.

"Elizabeth, I didn't want to add to your stress" he admitted. 'Look, lets sit down and we can call him. I've asked Blake to order some food in for everyone. You need to take a break' his tone was a little firm but fair. She stopped and chewed her lip. Desperately wanting to argue and protest, even start a fight but she couldn't.

'Fine' she whispered. Henry walked to her and placed his hands on either side of her arms 'can I get a hug now?' He smiled softly and she rolled her eyes at him, collapsing into his embrace.

'Sorry' she mumbled into his shoulder as he held her close, slowly rocking her from side to side in an attempt to calm her mind. 'Thank you' she sighed and stepped back

'I think I was rude to Blake too'

'I gathered, so I'm paying for Chinese' he laughed at her little pout.

'Ohhh Chinese'

'Shall we call Jason?' He asked and she nodded. Henry pulled his phone and dialled Jason's number. - no answer. Henry looked at Elizabeth apologetically and tapped out a text to Jason.

To Jason

From Dad

Call me back please,

your mom is worried about you.

'Don't worry lets eat some food and take a break, we have plenty of time to try again' she nodded and took a seat on her sofa.

'I'm just going to check with Blake how long it will be and I'll be back" he reassured her and popped outside. Once outside Henry tried Jason again, with no answer again he left a voice mail and called the DS agents at the house, leaving a message with them too.

'Blake, I need your help..." Henry divulged his plan to Blake whom of course nodded and agreed to be apart of it.

'You really do love her" he stated simply, not realising what he had said

'Of course I do' Henry Laughed.

'Oh sorry Dr McCord I just meant it's nice to see she has someone who adores her' he smiled and Henry patted him on the back once more. 'Don't forget the plan' he winked.

Henry had entered Elizabeth's office once again, he sat with her on the sofa and held her close as they waited for the food to arrive. They spoke about meaningless topics in an attempt to get Elizabeth to rest her mind for a moment or two and soon enough There was a knock at the door

'Ohh food' she chirped a little too eagerly

'It's only food' he laughed

'Well, yes but Henry I haven't left this building in twenty-four hours, let alone eaten properly' she sat herself up right and watched as Henry went to open the office door.

'What the?' She stood up shocked as Jason walked in, Chinese in one hand flowers in the other.

'Hey mom' he grinned. Henry slipped out of the door leaving them alone.

'Jase what's going on?'

'Well, dad said you needed food, and well these are for you. ' He handed her the bouquet of flowers, vibrant pinks, whites and purples all arranged in the most beautiful formation. She stood a little shocked

'They're beautiful, but...but why?" She shook her head in disbelief

'Because I love you mom, and I kinda miss you, I needed an excuse to come and see you' he admitted quietly. Elizabeth put the flowers on the table and squeezed him.

'Oh baby' she gushed as her arms wrapped around him, holding him close. Her tears rushed down her face as she held her only son in her arms. Moments like this were rare now Jason was older.

'Ok Mom' he laughed nervously and pushed back a little

'Baby what's going on? Are you ok?' She asked softly

'Mom I'm fine, I just missed you that's all. I was a little annoyed you were not home recently but like dad pointed out, you're saving the world one crisis at a time and all so I can have a future, I figured I owed you an apology for being mad, even though you didn't know, and Piper suggested flowers' he rambled on a little. Elizabeth chuckled softly, he was rambling like she did when she was nervous. She rubbed the top of his head and smiled

'You don't ever had to apologise for missing me; or being mad that I am not there. I'm sorry Jase… Piper suggested?' She raised an eyebrow at him

'Yeah, we've patched things up. I think, well she is talking to me again so' He shook his head trying to seek clarity on his own situation

'You're sure you're ok? We can talk if you like?' She asked

'Its cool' he shrugged her comment off. 'Now dad paid for this so let's enjoy it before it goes cold' he grinned, diverting the attention away from the sentimental moment between them. Elizabeth nodded

'Shall we get him back in?" She went to walk towards the door

'He's gone home' he stated, and realised with the confused look upon Elizabeth's face he continued 'dad left me a voice mail saying I needed to have some quality time with you; I was already on my way here so I picked up the Chinese from downstairs and then Blake told me dad was going home now I was here, so we could have some time just us' She nodded and retraced her steps back towards the sofa

'You McCord men are smooth; I'll give you that'

'No were not, we just want the best for the head of our family' Jason replied simply and began to open up the food for them.

'I love you Jase'

'I kinda like you too' he mocked, she rolled her eyes and shook her head as she took the food from him. Her little boy was every inch Henry but also just like her; a perfect blend of both McCord. Elizabeth relaxed into the sofa and watched her son intently. She realised in that moment that it wasn't Jason who needed her, but she needed him, the only other man in her life that she had stolen her heart.
