Hey guys. Sorry I didn't get anything up this past weekend. I have been so busy because I am getting ready to go see my family for a few weeks. Here is the next chapter.

Lena tensed, knowing that no one should be in their apartment. However, she listened for a second and heard two familiar voices. Seeing that Kara had moved away from her in her sleepy, fevered state, Lena carefully got out of bed, heading into the kitchen.

"What are you guys doing here so early?" Lena asked, clearly startling Maggie and Alex.

"Lena," Alex said, looking a little guilty, "Hey, sorry, did we wake you?"

"I'm a light sleeper," Lena said, brushing it off, "But what are you doing here? Making breakfast? You didn't need to do that."

"This one couldn't sleep last night because she was so worried about Kara," Maggie said, pointing to Alex, "She wanted to come over at 6 am, but I told her she had to wait."

"Sorry," Alex said, looking down, "It's just, this is the first time Kara's been sick and hasn't needed me to take care of her the whole time."

"Oh, Alex, I'm so sorry," Lena said, a wave of guilt washing over her, "I didn't even think. I should have gone home and let you stay with her last night. I'm so sorry. I'll go."

"No," Alex said, shaking her head, "No, it's not a bad thing. I'm glad she has someone else to turn to, that even if I can't be there, there are people who can fully be there for her. Since we were kids, its basically just been her and I against the world. Now, she has other people who are there for her. It's a hard adjustment for me, but not a bad thing. It didn't make the 3 am anxiety attack about whether her fever was too high any easier, but it's good."

"You can always call," Lena said, putting her hand on Alex's, "And it's almost like you and Kara are linked. She had a breakdown at 3 am too, although hers was because of the fever and itchiness."

Maggie smiled a little, having always said that the adoptive sisters were more connected than any blood sisters she had ever known.

"But she's ok?" Alex asked anxiously, still worried about her sister.

"She's alright," Lena said, nodding, "She's miserable and will probably be awake any minute because this is the longest she's slept all night, but her fever isn't dangerously high and the lotion is helping with the itchiness."

"Once she wakes up, we can stay with her for a while if you want to sleep," Maggie said, going to grab coffee for Lena.

"I'll be fine," Lena said, reaching for the coffee Maggie offered, "I work on less sleep in a week thatn I got last night."

"But you said this is the longest Kara slept all night," Maggie said confused.

"There are a lot of weeks that I sleep for thirty minutes a night," Lena said nonchalantly, "I slept for at least four hours last night."

"Thirty minutes a night?!" Alex said, her jaw dropping.

Just then, Kara walked out of the bedroom scratching absentmindedly at her arm.

"Hey Kara," Lena said, glad to be ducking the conversation, "How are you feeling this morning Love?"

"Itchy," Kara mumbled as Lena took her hands and lead her to the couch, "And icky. I hate being sick."

"Well, let's get this room set up for getting you feeling better," Alex said, motioning to Maggie to come help her, "We need to turn the couch."

Lena helped Kara up, letting her lean on her as Maggie and Alex quickly turned the couch to face Kara's large windows that Alex opened as Lena helped Kara sit down.

"I want my blanket," Kara whined as Lena helped her get comfortable.

"No," Alex said, shaking her head, "You need direct exposure to sunlight on your skin. It would actually be better if you changed into shorts and a t-shirt."

"No," Kara complained, "I don't wanna move."

"Alright," Alex said, laughing at her little sister, "But next time you get up, you're changing."

Kara nodded, putting her head in Lena's lap.

"Kara," Maggie said, carrying a plate of pancakes into the living room, "Alex made pancakes."

"I'm not hungry," Kara mumbled, eyes already closing, "My mouth hurts too much."

"Not even for my famous blueberry pancakes?" Alex said, concered.

Kara shook her head.

"How about some ice cream?" Lena asked, running her hands through Kara's hair, "Or another popsicle?"

"Do we have any mint chip ice cream?" Kara asked, cracking one of her slightly swollen eyes open.

"Duh," Maggie said, going to the freezer.

"Can I have a little bit?" Kara asked, rubbing her eyes.

"Of course," Maggie said, going to get the ice cream.

"Lena, would you like some pancakes?" Alex asked.

"Sure," Lena said, nodding, "Kara raves about how good your pancakes are."

"They are the best breakfast food I have ever eaten," Maggie said, nodding as she scooped ice cream for Kara, "They are also the best food I've ever eaten that Alex makes."

"That's because everything else might give you food poisoning," Kara said, her face still squished against Lena's lap.

"Not true," Alex said, handing Lena a plate full of pancakes.

"Alex, the last time you cooked, I got an upset stomach and I had all my powers," Kara said, sitting up as Maggie handed her a bowl of ice cream.

"Cooking is not your strong suit babe," Maggie said, kissing Alex, "But youre good at so many other things it doesn't matter. Now, I need to get to work."

"Oh, shoot, I need to go too," Alex said, looking at her phone, "Unless you need me to stay because J'onn will totally give me the day off if I ask."

"I'll be fine here," Kara said, taking a small bite of ice cream.

"Alright," Alex said, putting a hand on Kara's forehead, gauging her temperature, "Well, call if you need anything and I will be back with dinner tonight. Love you."

"Thanks Alex," Lena said, smiling, "Bye guys."

"Bye Lexie. Love you," Kara said quietly, "Bye Maggie."

"Feel better Little Danvers," Maggie called, practically pulling Alex out of the apartment.

"So, what do you want to do today?" Lena asked as she ate her breakfast while Kara just kinda stirred her ice cream in the bowl, taking a bite every minute or so.

"I don't know," Kara said, shaking her head, "I probably will sleep most of the day. I'm gonna be pretty terrible company. You should just go to work."

"I'm staying and that's final," Lena said, shaking her head, "So, would you like to watch a movie or a show? Or I can read to you? Or you can just sleep the day away and I can entertain myself."

"Let's watch something," Kara said, scratching her arm.

"Only if you don't scratch," Lena said, holding her hand.

"I'm so itchy," Kara complained.

"How about another bath?" Lena asked, knowing it would help with the itching and the fever.

"Ok," Kara agreed.

"Are you done with your ice cream?" Lena asked, seeing the melted treat that was now in Kara's bowl.

"Yeah," Kara said, handing Lena the bowl.

"You didn't eat much," Lena commented, taking both her empty plate and Kara's bowl to the kitchen.

"Nothing tastes good," Kara said, rubbing her face with her hands, "And I'm just not hungry. I just feel icky."

"I know," Lena said, nodding, "Come on. Let's get you into that bath."

Kara stood up, shuffling behind Lena into the bathroom. Lena ran the bath and helped Kara in.

"Join me?" Kara asked, looking up at her girlfriend.

"You are the only person in the world I would get in an oatmeal bath for," Lena said, pulling off her clothes.

Lena slid in behind Kara, gently rubbing the cloudy water all over her shoulders and back.

"Feels good," Kara sighed, leaning back against her girlfriend.

Once the water got cold, Lena helped Kara out of the bath and applied yet another round of calamine lotion.

"I don't wanna wear shorts," Kara whined as Lena triend to help her into a pair of cotton shorts.

"But you need to get as much sun as possible," Lena said, shaking her head as she cajouled Kara into the clothes.

"Can I at least have a blanket?" Kara asked as Lena handed her a tank top, "I'm cold."

"Sure," Lena said, having every intention of removing the blanket as soon as Kara fell asleep, which based on the heaviness in her eyes would be soon.

Lena handed Kara her favorite blue blanket as they went to sit on the couch.

"Want me to put on a movie?" Lena asked, gently massaging Kara's scalp.

"Will you just read to me?" Kara asked sleepily, rubbing her face.

"Only if you don't scratch," Lena said, grabbing Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets that they had been reading together for the past few.

Kara loved the books and movies and was appalled that Lena had never read or seen them. She insisted that they read them together which had turned into them taking turn reading it to each other. They didn't usually make it through more than a few pages or at most a chapter a night because they were both beyond exhausted by the time the crawled into bed most of the time.

Lena began reading and within ten minutes, Kara was asleep. Lena almost kept reading on her own because she was so interested, but stopped herself, having promised Kara they would read them together so she could see Lena's reactions to her favorite parts. Lena put the bookmark back in the book and closed it, placing it back on the table.

She then pulled out her laptop which she had left on the side of the couch. She turned it on before carefully moving Kara's blanket off her legs. Kara was holding the blanket pretty tightly with her hands, and Lena didn't want to bother her so she just left it. She figured some sun was better than nothing. It was spring so it was, luckily, pretty warm outside.

Lena stared on some work she wanted to get done. She had a few patents that she needed to finish the paperwork for and some tech positions that she needed to finish reviewing their candidates for. She also wanted to check in with James to find out how the latest edition of CatCo magazine was voming. She made it through her first patent before Kara started to stir.

"Hey Love," Lena said, kissing Kara's forehead, "How are you feeling?"

Kara just whined a little, burring her face in her blanket.

"Can I get you anything?" Lena asked, running her fingers through her hair.

"Can you braid my hair?" Kara asked, looking up at Lena.

"Of course," Lena said, quickly taking parts of Kara's hair and beginning to braid it.

She went for one, long French braid, hoping it would help keep Kara's hair from bothering her too much.

"Thanks Babe," Kara said, smiling up at Lena when she finished.

"Of course," Lena said, opening her arms as Kara crawled into them.

"I'm still so tired," Kara said, yawning.

"Is that normal when you flare?" Lena asked, holding Kara close.

"Yeah," Kara said, nodding, "Especially when I'm sick. Plus, I haven't been sleeping that well this week before all of this because I was trying to figure out the Cult or Rao thing."

"Well, then, sleep," Lena said, rubbing her back, "I'm not going anywhere."

"I don't know if I'll be able to," Kara said, "I'm so itchy."

"Want another round of lotion?" Lena asked, wanting to give her girlfriend any kind of relief.

"Yeah," Kara nodded, sitting up.

Lena went into the bedroom to grab the bottle and laughed as she walked back into the living room. Kara was sitting on the couch wearing only her underwear, looking absolutely pathetic.

"Alright," Lena said, holding up the bottle, "Let's get this on."

Kara nodded, letting Lena apply the lotion all over her body. Once she was done, Kara pulled Lena onto the couch, putting her head in her lap as she closed her eyes.

"Don't you wanna get dressed?" Lena asked, laughing a little.

"Nope," Kara mumbled, "I'm too tired and too hot."

Lena just shook her head, kissing Kara's hairline. She was glad her girlfriend had an apartment on the 20th floor where no one would see her laying in front of an open window naked. It was good for her to get the sunlight so Lena was happy Kara finally was in full sunlight.

Lena continued working on her patents, getting through all of them before Kara woke up again.

"How long did I sleep?" Kara asked, rubbing her eyes as she sat up.

"A few hours," Lena said, setting her laptop aside, "How are you feeling?"

"I think hungry?" Kara said, a bit confused.

"What can I get you?" Lena asked, laughing a little.

"Maybe some soup?" Kara said, rubbing her eyes as she tried to wake up a little more.

"Maggie brought extras of that soup you love so much," Lena said, opeing the fridge, "Want me to heat that up?"

"Sure," Kara nodded, wrapping her blanket around her shoulders as she walked into the kitchen.

Kara sat down on a stool as Lena popped the soup in the microwave that was so rarely used before pulling a loaf of bread out of the fridge along with some jelly. She grabbed the peanut butter before making herself a sandwich. Lena's love of PB and J was one of the most endering things Kara had ever seen. Her girlfriend had eaten every fancy food on every continent by the time she was a teenager, and yet it wasn't until she went away to boarding school that she discovered her favorite sandwich.

Before they started dating, Kara had dropped by to visit Lena one afternoon and walked in on her making a sandwich at her desk. Lena confessed that she always kept things to make peanut butter and jelly in her office because it was her favorite and one of the only things she could stomach after a hard day. Kara had tucked this information in the back of her brain and made sure to always keep Lena's favoirte peanut butter and jam at her flat.

Kara smiled as she watched her girlfriend spread her favorite Jiff chunky on her bread before adding raspberry jam.

"What are you smiling at?" Lena asked, cracking a smile of her own as she pulled Kara's soup out of the microwave.

"You," Kara said, "And your love of peanut butter and jelly."

"It is perfection in a sandwich," Lena said, grabbing a spoon for Kara before sitting down at the counter next to her, "It's salty and sweet and has the perfect amount of carbs."

Kara nodded, having heard this from Lena before. Kara grabbed the spoon, putting it in her mouth, immediately spitting it back out as she yelped in pain.

"What?" Lena said, worry filling her as she put a hand on Kara's back.

"It's hot," Kara said, looking offensively at the bowl, "I always forget about that when I flare."

"Sorry," Lena said, handing Kara a paper towel, "I should have made it less hot."

"IT's not your fault," Kara said, shaking her head as she picked the spoon back up, blowing on the spoon carefully before putting it back in her mouth. The two ate in relative silence, Kara only getting through about a quarter of the bowl before just kinda stirring it around.

"Want me to save it for later?" Lena asked, taking the bowl from her girlfriend when she finished her own sandwich.

"Please," Kara nodded, wrapping her blanket tightly around herself.

"Do you want to go get dressed?" Lena asked, noticing Kara was still only in her underwear.

"No," Kara said, shaking her head, "My clothes were making me too itchy."

"Alright," Lena laughed a little, loading the bowl and plate into the dishwasher before going back to Kara at the counter, "Would you like to go back to the couch?"

"Can we go lay in bed?" Kara asked, rubbing her eyes.

"Sure," Lena nodded, grabbing her laptop and phone before guiding Kara to bed.

Kara climbed into bed while Lena went to open the curtains and windows, allowing the sunlight to pour into the room. Lena then climbed into bed with Kara, smiling as the blonde woman moved over quick, putting her head on Lena's chest.

"Can we listen to some music?" Kara asked, looking up at Lena.

"Of course," Lena nodded, "Any requests?"

"Hamilton," Kara said without even having to think.

Lena nodded, going to Spotify and pulling up the album. They both loved Hamilton and had gone to see it a few months ago in New York before they were even dating. Kara just rested on Lena, not quite awake, but not quite asleep, scratching at different parts of her body every few seconds.

"Love," Lena said after pulling Kara's hand away from her arm for the third time, "You need to stop scratching."

"But I'm itchy," Kara complained, moving her hand to scratch at her back.

"I am going to put gloves on you," Lena warned, reaching out and grabbing Kara's hand again.

Kara stuck out her bottom lip, revealing the few pox that were on the inside of her lip.

"Do you want more lotion?" Lena asked, wanting desperately to help the sick woman.

Kara nodded and Lena grabbed the lotion she had brought into the bedroom with them. Kara just laid there, letting Lena rub the lotion all over her spotted body.

"I hate this," Kara said, shivering a little.

"I know Love," Lena said, brushing a stray hair from her face, "I wish I could take it away from you."

"I wouldn't wish this on you," Kara said, shaking her head, "I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It sucks."

Lena just gently kissed Kara's forehead as they settled into bed. Kara fell back to sleep, Lena wrapping a blanket around her still naked body.

Lena started working on some emails, careful not to disturb Kara. After about an hour and a half, Lena felt her own eyes getting heavy and she set her phone aside, snuggling down next to Kara and quickly falling asleep.

The next thing Lena knew, Kara was thrashing in bed next to her. Lena quickly came back to consciousness, immediately moving to help calm Kara down.

"Kara," Lena called, grabbing one of her arms, "Love. Wake up. It's just a dream."

Kara's eyes flew open and she calmed quickly, burying herself into Lena's shoulder.

"It's alright," Lena murmured, rubbing Kara's bare back, "I'm right here. It was just a nightmare."

Kara nodded slightly as her tears slowly stopped.

"Wanna talk about it?" Lena asked as Kara pulled herself off Lena's shoulder.

"It was just an alien attack," Kara said, shaking her head, "And it took you and Alex and Maggie captive and I couldn't find any of you."

"I'm safe," Lena said, "And as far as I know, Alex and Maggie are too."

"Can we call Alex?" Kara asked softly, looking up at Lena.

"Of course," Lena said, nodding as she reached for her phone.

She pressed 2 on her speed dial, the number for her girlfriend's big sister. It rang twice before Alex answered.

"Hello," she said, "Is Kara alright? Do you need to bring her in? Do you need me to come there?"

"Alex," Lena said, laughing a little, "She's fine. Or as fine as someone with chicken pox can be. She just wanted to talk to you. I'm going to put you on speaker."

"Hey Kar," Alex said, gesturing to the cadets she was training to take a break, "What's going on?"

"I just needed to hear your voice," Kara said softly.

"Did you have a nightmare?" Alex asked, knowing her sister was prone to them in general and that fevers made it worse.

"Maybe," Kara said, leaning against Lena heavily.

"I'm safe," Alex said reassuringly, "I'm going to try to cut out early today so hopefully I'll be over soon."

"Ok," Kara said, not really feeling like talking but just wanting to hear her sister's voice.

"I love you Kar," Alex said, knowing she needed to get back to work if she wanted to leave early, "I'll see you soon."

"Love you too Lexie," Kara said, eyes starting to close again.

"Bye Alex," Lena said, stroking Kara's hair, "She's basically asleep again. Just let yourself in when you get here. I might be sleeping too."

"Alright," Alex said, "See you soon Lena. Thanks for taking care of her."

"Of course," Lena said, "See you soon."

Lena hung up before curling up next to Kara. She quickly fell asleep again, knowing that sleep was a precious commodity that needed to be taken full advantage of when she could.

So there it was. I already have the next chapter written so hopefully I'll get that up this coming weekend. As always, all comments, reviews, and ideas are welcome!
