Chapter 1: A Ranger's Origins

In the southern region of Vytal was a town built alongside the coast called Vita. It was one of the largest towns on the continent. Thanks to the extremely low Grimm population, the town is able to grow and develop into one of the safest places to live in all of Remnant. On the outskirts of the town sat a manor built alongside an ocean cliff. It belonged to the world's most renowned archaeologist named Drake Ryburn. He lives in the large manor with his wife, Hestia Azalea, a huntress, and their son, Inigo Ryburn.

Inigo shared his father's ambitions of exploring and adventure. However, the kid was raised in a sheltered lifestyle for the majority of his life. His mother believed that he was unfit to become an archaeologist like his father. So at the age of 18, Hestia began training her son so he can be a proficient fighter. Unfortunately, Inigo lived a very sheltered life. He never picked up a sword. The only thing he did when that was remotely combat-oriented was shooting cans with firearms when he was bored. This would mean Inigo would need to take a very long road if he wants to become an archaeologist like his father.

It's been three months since Hestia began training her son. Hestia decided to measure how much Inigo had grown as a fighter, so she organized a sparring match between her son and a highly advanced training android.

She organized the duel to start at 9 in the morning. Inigo woke up at 8:49 and rushed to get ready. He threw on his normal clothes, which consisted of a red leather jacket, a black shirt beneath it, black pants, and shoes. It didn't matter what he wore because his aura would be able to shield him. He grabbed his sidearm holster with the weapon inside it. Before walking out of the door to meet with his mother in the courtyard, Inigo licked his fingers a bit and fixed his dark, red hair so that it didn't look like it was standing up.

Inigo walked outside and saw his mother sitting down with a tea set on the table and a sheathed sword tilting against it. She wore casual clothing and not her usual Huntress gear. She wore blue jeans and a brown shirt. A few feet to her left was the Atlesian Trainer, an advanced Atlesian android built to be an effective training tool. Its light armor allowed it to become a swift and difficult opponent to fight. Inigo wasn't sure why his mother was making him fight a highly-skilled opponent.

"You're two minutes late, Inigo," Hestia said.

"I'm sorry," Inigo apologized while bowing his head down out of respect.

"It looks like you still need to work on your discipline," Hestia remarked. "Well, it doesn't matter right now. Grab your sword and prepare for the match to begin."

Inigo nodded and unsheathed the sword. He and the android moved to the center of the courtyard, standing a few meters apart. Inigo gripped his hand on the sword and raised it. The android mimicked his stance.

"Begin!" Hestia commanded.

The android made the first move and instantly swung its sword. Inigo quickly blocked the first attack. The android placed pressure on Inigo, swinging its sword in all directions. Inigo stayed on the defensive and waited for a moment to strike. When the android slowed down, Inigo saw the moment to attack. Inigo attempted to stab his sword through the android's neck but knocked the sword out of Inigo's hand. The sword stabbed through the cracks in the concrete. Even though Inigo was disarmed, the android went on the offensive.

By instinct, Inigo activates his semblance. His semblance allowed him to identify a weakness on a person or an object and hit with a precise blow. Inigo gave his semblance the nickname: Critical Sight. Inigo dodged the attack and used his semblance to find the weakness of the android. Through his eyes, he identified the head as the weak spot. He pulled out his pistol and shot the android through the head.

Hestia sighed, disappointed with the outcome of the match. Inigo turned around and saw her dissatisfied expression. He was confused about why she looks disappointed.

"The whole point of today's match was to see how far you are in your training, not how quickly you'd discard it," Hestia lectured. She continued talking by labeling all the mistakes Inigo made during his match. "First of all, you still swing your sword with unnecessary movements, such as moving your hand as you thrust it. It slightly weakens your grip on your weapon and allows your opponent to disarm you. That's another thing I want to note is your grip. And finally, this was a match to measure your ability to use a sword."

"I'm sorry, it's just that I'm a bit more natural with using a gun than a sword. My semblance allows me to hit targets where it hurts from a safe distance."

"Well, even though you discouraged what I've taught you about how to use a sword, I do commend your skill with firearms. But remember this, Inigo, you'll eventually run out of bullets. And when you do run out of bullets, you'll need to know how to properly swing a sword."

"Right…" Inigo said in a low tone.

"Well, since you destroyed the android's processor, we can't use it for any further training sessions. It will be a while before another one comes in. You're dismissed for today."

Inigo nodded and left the courtyard. Hestia summoned the servants to clean up the mess in the courtyard. As Inigo walked to his room, he thought it would be an even longer time before he would be allowed to join his father on his adventures.

Inigo spent most of his day in his room reading away to kill time. Someone knocked on the door and he responded, "Yes?"

"Dinner is served, Master Ryburn," the butler replied. Inigo recognized the butler's voice as Benson, the oldest man working as the manor's staff. Inigo left his room and followed Benson to the dining hall.

"Any word from my mother?" Inigo asked.

"Yes, she just wrapped up her mission in the village up north. She should be returning later tonight. I think she's going to the docks to meet with your father before coming back," Benson said.

"Well, dad is coming home late so that means they won't be here for a while," Inigo commented.

Benson opened the door to the dining room and inside was a blonde man with purple eyes sitting in the center seat of the long dining room. He wore a black jacket with a purple stripe across the right side of the chest.

"Benson, who is he?" Inigo asked as he tilted his head to the side

"I don't know, but whoever he is, he's an intruder," Benson said.

"So good for you to join us, Mr. Ryburn. Please take a seat," the blond stranger said.

Two Atlesian Knights that were hiding beside the corridor revealed themselves and had their built-in guns pointed at Inigo and Benson. One of the Atlesian Knights forced Inigo to take the seat across the stranger. The other tied down Benson and left him against the wall.

"Who are you?" Inigo asked. Inigo began to sweat a bit as he could hear the cocking of the guns behind him.

The blond man smirked and said, "My name is Vulcan Ferro, the former head engineer of Pendragon Corporations," the man said.

"So why is a former employee of such a big company threatening my life?"

"Straight away with the questions, huh? Well, I'm currently looking for an artifact your father recovered a few weeks ago," Vulcan said. He slid a holo-disc across the table and it projected the artifact he was referring to. It looked like a gold buckle with a red circular gem in the center of it. "Do you know where it is?"

"You think I would just tell you where my dad keeps his artifacts. I'm not going to let you take what he fought so hard to retrieve," Inigo said. For a second, he felt confident but he immediately realized he wasn't in the position to talk back like that.

"Don't be stupid, kid. We have this whole manor on lock down with several androids searching every nook and cranny of this place. Even if you don't tell me, one of these androids will eventually find it," Vulcan said. "The sooner you tell me, the quicker I'll get out of here."

"Why do you need that artifact anyways?"

"As if I would tell you."

There was gunfire heard beyond the corridor behind Inigo. Everyone turned and saw bullets flying through the corridor. A body of a lifeless Atlesian Knight was seen flying across the connecting hallway. The two Atlesian Knights left the room to investigate. The sound of a sword slicing through metal was heard in the hallway and a Huntsman casually walked into the room. He had dark grey hair with red eyes. He wore a white and grey shirt with black pants. He also wore a red, tattered cloak. He was armed with a large sword.

"Am I late for the party?" the Huntsman asked. The blonde man stood up from his chair and slammed his hand on the table.

"I knew that Ozpin would attempt to send his Huntsmen to get the Morpher when its location was made public knowledge. If he wants it, he'll just have to go through my men!" Vulcan shouted. Several Atlesian Knights kicked open the other doors to enter the dining room.

"Hey, kid, you might want to grab that old man and get out of here. Things are starting to get violent," the Huntsman remarked.

Inigo nodded as the Huntsman jumped onto the table and began the fight. The Atlesian Knights attempted to gun him down but he deflected the bullets with ease. As the fight broke out, Inigo helped Benson up and ran out of the room. With the Huntsman distracted with the androids, Vulcan ran out of the dining room to avoid him.

Inigo helped Benson walk through the hallways as fast as they could. When they heard metallic footsteps coming from a connecting hallway, Inigo and Benson entered one of the guest rooms. Inside of the room was a maid and a butler tied up.

"Master Ryburn, you're safe!" the butler exclaimed.

"You might want to keep it down, there are still several androids patrolling the hallway," Inigo said. "So mind telling me how you two got caught?"

"We were just wrapping up our tasks for the day when suddenly the androids appeared out of nowhere and started gathering everyone up," the maid exclaimed.

"You must've not heard the commotion since most of us were in the other wing," Benson commented.

"It didn't matter if I was in the other wing or not. I was still held at gunpoint in the end," Inigo said.

"So how did you escape?" the maid asked.

"A Huntsman managed to intervene in my capture and allowed me to escape while he fought against the intruders."

"A Huntsman? That's good, we'll just have to lay low until the fighting stops," the butler said.

"Well, I'm not sitting around this room until the Huntsman saves the day. The intruder is looking for something in this mansion and I'm going to make sure he isn't going to find it," Inigo said.

"Sir, I don't want you to risk your life over an old relic. I'm sure your father would want you to prioritize your safety," Benson said.

Inigo smirked and said, "Don't worry Benson, there's no way I can get caught by these things. They're so loud and clunky that I can hear them from a mile away. Besides, I know this manor inside and out. I'll safely navigate through the house."

"But sir-!" Benson shouted as Inigo left the room and closed the door in front of him.

"He could've at least untied us," the butler commented.

Inigo carefully made his way through the manor. The artifact that Vulcan is looking for was in Drake's private study. Inigo knew that his father takes artifacts he recently discovered to his studies so he can do further research on it. The Huntsman's fight was heard across the large manor. Inigo wasn't sure how many androids were in the vicinity, so he just assumed there was a lot.

Inigo managed to avoid any patrolling Atlesian Knights until he reached his father's study. He heard the footsteps of an approaching Atlesian Knight from the next hallway. If he ran across it, he would most likely be attacked by it. Inigo grabbed a mace from an armor set and waited for the android to approach him. The second Inigo saw the android, he bashed its head off with the mace. The android was still active so Inigo bashed on it a couple more times until it was flattened. Destroying the android would probably alert the others, so Inigo rushed to the study.

Inigo quickly locked the door and pushed one of the couches against it. This makeshift barricade wouldn't hold against the Atlesian Knights for long so Inigo had to search for the artifact quickly and get out of here. Meanwhile outside, three Atlesian Knights discovered the destroyed body of another. It wouldn't take them long before they realize that Inigo was nearby because the Huntsman was occupied in the other wing.

Inigo saw a briefcase on his father's desk and opened it. Inside it was the artifact that Vulcan was looking for.

"What makes you so special?" Inigo wondered out loud as he picked it up.

The Atlesian Knights started banging on the door. Inigo was now cornered in his father's study.

"I need a weapon," Inigo thought out loud as he placed the artifact on the desk.

Inigo frantically opened the drawers for the desk to see if his father left any weapon for him to defend himself with. The androids beyond the door began to open fire and Inigo ducked and use the desk as cover. One of the flying bullets struck the artifact. It fell off the desk and landed next to Inigo. The gem in the center began to glow and out curiosity, he picked it up.

When Inigo touched it, he felt a somewhat indescribable feeling. The only way he can put is something attached to his very soul. A red, holographic projection of a featureless male appeared out of the gem. Inigo felt his jaw lower itself at the sight of this man.

"Greetings. I am Alpha, the AI in charge of managing the Red Master Morpher," the projection spoke.

"An AI? That's impossible, there was no technology that advanced thousands of years ago," Inigo responded.

"Technology during the era I was created in was capable of creating AI, but it was given to a small few. But back to a more important matter, you're given the responsibility to be the new bearer of the Red Master Morpher."

Inigo was confused about the words Alpha was saying. The Atlesian Knights beyond the door started banging on the door again and broke through the door.

"I cannot let the Red Master Morpher fall into the wrong hands. You must prevent that from happening."

"I'd be happy to oblige but I don't have any means to fight right now," Inigo said.

"Ay Yi Yi, this device is called a Morpher for a reason. Use it to morph into a Power Ranger."

"You act like I know what you're talking about!" Inigo exclaimed.

"Just point the Red Master Morpher forward and just shout "It's Morphin Time"!"

"Why do I have to shout it?"

"It's so that the device picks the Mighty Morphin Ranger powers and not just some random one."

"I'm so lost right now. But screw it, it's not like I have much of a choice," Inigo sighed. The Atlesian Knights managed to break through the door. Inigo quickly pointed the Red Master Morpher away from himself and shouted, "It's Morphin Time!"

Mighty Morphin mode engaged!

A lightning bolt symbol appeared on the gem and Inigo was engulfed in red light. The Atlesian Knights saw the light as they entered the room. They tried to surround the desk, but Inigo managed to flip it into the air. The three androids looked up into the air and saw the desk come crashing down on top of one of them.

The last two androids looked down and had come face to face with Inigo, who wore a red full bodysuit with white diamonds across the chest. The gloves and boots were white with red diamonds. He also wore a red helmet with a silver mouth-mold. Around the black visor were a grey teeth pattern with the top of the head shaped like a dinosaur.

The Atlesian Knights unsheathed their wrist-mounted blades and charged at Inigo. He pulled out the blaster on his side and blasted one of the Atlesian Knights in the face. The last android lunged at him but Inigo quickly transformed the blaster into a short sword. He swiftly sliced off the left arm of the android and finished it off with a decapitation.

"I'm pretty garbage with a sword. Am I this good because of this costume?" Inigo asked. A sound frequency chart with the words Alpha on top of it appeared on the bottom left of Inigo's visor.

"Your powers come from the previous mantles of the Red Ranger. The fighting style will reflect the suit you're wearing."

"I see," Inigo said. He thought, "This makes things way easier. "

Vulcan was outside in the manor's courtyard while his Atlesian Knights kept the Huntsman inside occupied. Vulcan received a notification on his Scroll and picked it up. He saw the last image the Atlesian Knight took before it was destroyed by Inigo. The image itself was Inigo as the Red Ranger slicing through the neck of the Atlesian Knight before it was destroyed.

Vulcan clenched his fist out of frustration. The mission was a failure. Vulcan made a call and when someone picked it up he said, "Things went south. The Red Master Morpher has already found its user and the Atlesian Knights you supplied me with won't suffice against a Power Ranger and a Huntsman. Meet me at the planned rendezvous."

When Inigo left his father's office, he immediately came into contact with other Atlesian Knights. The group had about eight androids all together. They were probably here because the ones he fought exposed his position. The Mighty Morphin Ranger transformed his sword into a blaster and charged at them. He used Critical Sight to accurately shoot three Atlesian Knights in the head.

Three of the Atlesian Knights formed a firing line and began at Inigo. He transformed his blaster back to a sword and deflected a few shots from the androids. When the Red Ranger got closer to the group, the two Atlesian Knights unsheathed their wrist-mounted blades and charged at Inigo. He managed to cut through them as they rushed towards him. The two of the Atlesian Knights attempted to circle him but Inigo lunged towards one and stabbed it through the chest. As he turned around, he shifted his sword back to a blaster and shot the last two.

"I couldn't do any of this without this suit. Maybe when this is all over, mom might let me go out on adventures," Inigo thought.

In the front hall of the manor, the Huntsman was wrapping up his fight against the Atlesian Knights. The sword he used earlier transformed into a large scythe and he used its extended reach to slice through a row of androids with ease. Suddenly the door behind him was opened by an android being thrown through it. When the android tried to get up, Inigo ran into the room and sliced off its head. The Huntsman was surprised by the Red Ranger's appearance. When their eyes met, Inigo raised his sword and pointed it at the Huntsman.

The Huntsman transformed his weapon into an inactive state and sheathed it behind his back. He said "Woah there kid, calm down. Is that any way to treat your rescuer?"

"Well, I don't know who you are? So I can't really trust you until you give me answers," Inigo said.

"If that's the case, then I can just show you my Huntsman license to show you that I'm one of the good guys," the Huntsman said as he pulled out his Scroll. He tossed it to Inigo and he caught it. The Scroll activated and showed Inigo the Huntsman's license.

"How do you say your name?" Inigo asked out loud.

"It's pronounced Qrow, like the bird. My mom thought it was a creative way for me to stand out," Qrow remarked. Inigo tossed Qrow back his Scroll.

"So what brings you to my home?" Inigo asked.

"I was sent on a mission to retrieve a device called the Red Master Morpher before a very bad group steals it for their own nefarious schemes. It looks like I was barely able to prevent that from happening."

"Don't feel bad about it. You arrived just in time to save my ass."

The sound of an airship engine was heard approaching the mansion. Qrow and Inigo knew that it was Vulcan's escape.

"It sounds like the intruder's escape," Inigo remarked.

"Let's make sure he doesn't get away," Qrow said.

Inigo and Qrow both ran into the courtyard and saw Vulcan gets into the airship. Inigo and Qrow pulled out their weapons and opened fire at the airship. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to heavily damage the airship.

"And it looks like he got away," Inigo remarked. "So what now, are you going chase him?"

"No, my mission is to retrieve the Red Master Morpher. But I can't do that at all if it's bonded to someone."

"Sorry about that, I needed to make sure that no one stole it."

"Don't be sorry, it would be better if you had it so that it has someone to protect it. Anyways, why don't you make sure that the old man is safe? I'll call my superior and we'll see what's the plan moving?"

"What do you mean?"

"As I said, my mission was to retrieve the Morpher. You becoming bonded with it just complicated things. But don't worry about it. We'll figure out things soon enough."

Inigo nodded and walked back to the manor. Qrow pulled out his Scroll and waited for someone on the other end to pick up.

"How's the mission going?" the man on the phone said.

"I got good news, I managed to prevent the Red Master Morpher from falling into Salem's hands," Qrow said.

"Is there any bad news to go along with it? There is always more to it than what you just said."

"Very funny Oz. Just because my powers are based on luck doesn't mean it's always bad. Well, I do have news but it's not really bad news. The Red Master Morpher bonded itself with Inigo, Drake's son."

"That changes our plans completely."

"It does. So what are we going to do with the kid? Send him up to Atlas to be trained with the other Rangers?"

"I think I have a better alternative for him."

"You're thinking about enrolling him into your school."

"A school environment is the better option for the young man compared to a cold, frigid military base in the north."

"Heh, can't argue with that."

Inigo was presented with two options. One was to go to Beacon Academy and enroll as a Huntsman-in-training. The other was to go to Atlas and train in a program with other Rangers like him. Regardless of what choice Inigo made, he was forced to abandon his dream to become an archaeologist because of the Red Master Morpher. However, it was all for his own good. Both Beacon and Atlas can give him better protection compared to his own manor. For his own parents' protection, he decided to become a Huntsman.

Although he only saw the academy as a drawback to his dream. If he chose the path to become a Huntsman, he would have a lot more freedom then if he was a soldier for Atlas. Inigo was a little more enthusiastic about going to Beacon too. He was about to meet people around his age. However, he hopes to the gods that he doesn't run into her. Yet he knew it was inevitable.

Inigo was expected to leave for Beacon the day after the intruders broke into his home. This news shocked his parents more than the destruction of their home. Inigo's mother was even surprised that he managed to hold his own against a large group of Atlesian Knights. In the end, they understand it's for his own protection. Inigo's parents were both out of the house most of the time and while Inigo is a capable fighter, it's dangerous to leave him alone in a low-security home.

It was 7:30 in the morning. Inigo would be in bed if this was any other day but today is the beginning of a new chapter in his life. He had all of his belongings in a duffel bag and luggage. Both of his parents were up to see their son off.

"Do you think Inigo will be fine at Beacon?" Drake asked quietly. "He's barely trained."

"If that device he bonded allows him to mimic any fighting style of those Power Rangers, he should be fine. As long as he has it with him at all times, he'll overcome most obstacles. I'm just worried for moments when he doesn't have the device," Hestia said. While she's glad that the Red Master Morpher allows Inigo to become a capable fighter, but without, Inigo would become an easy target for Grimm.

An airship flew over the courtyard and landed in the open space. Before Inigo got in, he turned around and faced his parents one more time.

"Looks like all those adventures will have to be put on hold," Inigo remarked as he hugged his dad.

"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun at Beacon," Drake said.

Hestia hugged her son and said, "It's going to be a great opportunity for you to learn how to become a better warrior. That device may allow you to use others' abilities, it's always best for you to grow your own."

"You're right, can't rely on the Morpher all the time. I hope my time at Beacon will teach me what you couldn't."

"You'll learn a lot more," Hestia said as she let's go of her son. Before Inigo left, he glanced at the servants of the manor and waved them goodbye.

"Take care, Master Inigo," Benson said.

"Come on, kid. Ozpin is expecting us by noon," Qrow said from the inside.

Inigo got on board and put his stuff in the compartments. As the airship lifts off, Inigo took one more glance at his home. It may have a few broken windows from the fight that broke out last night, but Inigo didn't care about it. Inigo stared at his home until the doors of the airship closed and took off for Beacon.

Author's Note:

Lakero45 here and welcome to my new series, RWBY: the Huntsman Ranger. I originally wanted to create an RWBY and Power Rangers crossover story and posted one last year. But it was one of those "isekai" stories that have characters from one fictional universe crossover with the next. I'd rather have a story were the two worlds were one to begin with. I spent months attempting to develop a decently thought out and thorough plot.

Anyways, let's talk about my OC, Inigo Ryburn. His semblance, Critical Sight, allows him to identify enemy weaknesses and strike them with precision. This power is inspired by Karnak, a Marvel superhero who has the extrasensory ability to weaknesses on people or objects. Even though this ability is deadly, it has its fair share of weaknesses. One of them is that if Inigo is under a greater level of stress or pressure, he can't identify any weakness and attack it. If he manages to calm down and regain focus, it can reactivate it.

Let's move onto the main show of the story, the Red Master Morpher implies. This was inspired by the Ranger keys from Super Megaforce and the Master Morpher used by Tommy in the anniversary episode in Ninja Steel. Seeing how both of those seasons kinda sucked in my opinion, I wanted to take my spin on it. I don't want to go into a lot of detail here, but as the name implies, there are more versions of the Master Morpher that has access to the other Ranger colors.

The Red Master Morpher allows Inigo to morph into the various Red Rangers throughout history. By morphing into a specific Red Ranger, you gain that Ranger's weapons, abilities, and skills. To scale back on the powers, Inigo is only allowed to morph into the base form of the Red Ranger. So battlizers or other power-ups. As for the strength of the suits, it's different for each one of them. Some will be super-strong, some will have a lot more speed, and others will have its unique abilities. It effectively makes Inigo into a swiss-army knife of a fighter.

Anyways, now that it's summer, I feel confident to write more now that I'm not confined to school. I plan on posting chapters for both this story and JoJo: Let's Become Heroes. So sit tight.

Leave a like and follow if you enjoyed this chapter. Also please leave a constructive review about my story. Until next time.
