Author's Note: This story is just a dabble of an idea I had in the back of my head for a while. I wanted to write a story with the intent of character development and growth. But also just something funny to make other people laugh. I haven't seen this idea anywhere else on Fanfiction yet, so hopefully, it'll be well received!

I never really write author's notes because I think they take away from the story, so this might be the only author's note ever. So let me cover a couple of points:

I'm going to update whenever I want. There is no schedule and I'm not going to stop writing until the story is finished.

I'm going to rate it T for now, but we all know it's going to be rated M because I'm trash.

This is an OCxSans fanfiction.

I don't own Undertale.

A lot of the plot will be around some theories I have about the game in terms of characters and game mechanics.

Any grammatical mistakes will be updated when I catch them and if I catch them.

And that's it! I don't really have any other things to say. So enjoy the fic and leave a review to let me know what you think!

Much love and stay safe!

Soulless

Chapter 1

"FUCK!"

The apple that was next to my computer slammed against the wall on the other side of the room with a loud THUD. I panted, narrowing my eyes at my laptop screen with the most hateful glare I could muster.

WHY.

CAN'T.

I.

BEAT.

THIS.

STUPID.

FLOWER?!

It was day three of my conquest to finish Undertale for the thirteenth time. Reilly had recommended it to me as a way to pass the time from this stupid quarantine bullshit. I was thankful, of course, because I had run out of games to play by myself and was being overwhelmed with boredom from being inside my house for months. Quarantine was rough, but I was thankful I at least had a home to stay in. Well, it's my parent's home, but it was still home.

I had come back from college when Corona hit DC hard to be with my family. My parents were considered to be elderly and my brother was too young to be able to take care of them. So I moved back only to realize that they're fine on their own. My mother has been staying in and occupied her time by cleaning the house until it was SPOTLESS. My father worked at home, so he never went out other than for groceries. My brother played Xbox all-day and only went outside to catch pokemon on his phone. They were doing just fine.

But I'm still glad I made the decision to come home. I would prefer to be here rather than college right now anyways.

Anyways, back to the game. Undertale has been out for years by now, but I was just starting to play it. I never really got the hype of the game before Reilly introduced me but now that I started, I knew I was hooked.

I loved how the game knew how to break the fourth wall without being cheesy. I loved the characters and the entire plot. The puzzles and the humor that would make me laugh at four am in the morning. It was a good game. Probably my favorite by now.

I had also come to realize that I was beginning to have an idealistic crush on Sans the skeleton. I had no idea why I did, but I just found his character to be so complex and interesting. His puns were cheesy, but they could always make me crack a smile. To me, the game was a masterpiece. Especially with the way that the choices I made would have an effect on the entire plotline.

Although no matter how hard I willed myself, I couldn't take the genocide route.

I tried once by hitting the dummy at the beginning, but there was no way in hell I was going to hurt Toriel. She was the sweetest thing and I knew she just wanted what was best for Frisk. I couldn't hurt someone like that.

And even at the end where I could easily kill Flowey, I found myself hesitating. He hurt so many people and absorbed my friends, but… I couldn't find it in myself to end him. He was a lost soul that was made by a lab disaster. It wasn't his fault he had ended up like that. I would always spare him no matter how many times I tried to will myself to finish him off.

I instead decided to watch playthroughs of the genocide ending. Luckily for me, Undertale was an extremely popular game that would always have numerous playthroughs posted on Youtube. I watched and analyzed the way the characters changed once the player would choose to harm instead of save them.

It was especially strange to see how Sans changed during his fight.

I knew he was powerful. I knew Sans was more than capable of taking the player out if he really wanted to. And yet… I could see the compassion he still had despite his hatred. The player would have killed his brother and most of his friends by then. And yet… maybe I was misunderstanding. Maybe it wasn't compassion, but Sans giving up.

Even though it was a fictional game, I couldn't help but feel empathy towards Sans. He was one of the only three people in that universe who had to relive every day when the player would start a new game. He would know what the player had done or failed to do. Sans had a burden now many people would understand.

I sighed and leaned back on my sofa. I had been playing this game for a couple hours and now it was two am. Maybe I should get some shut-eye…

Well, I'll check my email to make sure my professors hadn't sent me anything else.

I clicked on my browser and opened a new tab. My email had over sixteen thousand messages due to my laziness. Most of it was spam and stupid stuff.

I clicked on my gmail tab and waited for it to load. As soon as it loaded, a message popped up with no title or subject. Was it spam? It didn't seem like spam but who cares. I quickly deleted it.

Another ping. The same email appeared instantly. What the hell? Was this some kind of joke?

I rolled my eyes and clicked on the email.

As soon as I did, my screen shot out a beam of light into my face. Like the brightest light I've ever seen. I clenched my eyes shut and turned my head away from the screen.

"What the f-"

Then, a loud CRASH echoed through my head and suddenly, I was falling.

I opened my eyes but all I could see was darkness. I opened my mouth to scream but no words left my lips. What the hell?! What was happening?!

Wind rushed into my face and made tears brim in the corner of my eyes as I continued to fall farther and farther down the endless black hole. I sucked in a breath as my heart began to beat so fast and loud that I could hear it slam against my chest. Was I going to die like this?! How far is this stupid hole anyway?!

CRASH

THUD

I let out a groan as I felt my body hit a very solid surface underneath the pillowy snowed ground. Jesus Christ my head was pounding from that landing!

"Oh ho?! Sans, did you see that?!" A voice was right next to me and cast a shadow on the snow.

"Wow, that was definitely a cold opening," Another voice that was deeper than the first chuckled at his own joke.

"Christ, that was a weak pun…" I mumbled in the snow before cautiously opening my eyes.

Around me, the area was covered in snow and trees. The snow was cold and dampened my pajamas as my body heat melted it. My eyes trailed across the shadows of the figures above me and widened as I came face to face with two talking skeletons.

"Uh… Hey, kid… You okay?" The shorter one asked.

"Perhaps she hit her head," The taller one pointed out. His appearance seemed very familiar… Like…

"WELL DO NOT FEAR! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, SHALL WRAP YOUR HEAD!"

Oh.

My.

GOD.

"No. No way. No fucking way. This isn't happening… This can't be real," What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck what the fuc-

"Brother, why is she breathing like that?"

"I think she's hyperventilating," The shorter skeleton squatted down in front of me and put a hand on my shoulder. "Hey, kid, take a breath, okay? Deep breaths,"

"A...Ahaha… This has to be a dream… I must have passed out at my computer again and… Yeah, that's the only logical explanation for it…" I snapped my fingers and shook my head vigorously. This had to be a dream. I did NOT just get thrown into the world of Undertale like… Like some fucking fanfiction!

"Uh… Hey, kid?" He waved his hand in front of my face.

So this must be Sans.

He looked pretty realistic which made me proud of my creative mind. I didn't think I would ever be able to dream Sans as a living skeleton. His bones were white as the snow around me and his outfit was vividly detailed. I mean, good on me to be able to imagine such a realistic blue sweatshirt and black shorts. Plus, his pink slippers were absolutely adorable. Highfive to my brain.

"Okay, this is a dream. Fantastic. I love dreams where I know it's a dream. That means I can do whatever I want," I grinned to myself. This was all in my head. It must be. Which means anything I do won't have any consequences… right?

"Uh… What are you talking abo-" I cut off Sans by grabbing his jacket collar and pulling him towards me. My lips slammed into his cold, solid teeth as I kissed the skeleton right then and there. His body went rigid and his arms froze at his side. I also heard Papyrus let out a gasp of shock by the spectacle but I didn't really care. It was my dream, after all.

Before he could do anything, I let him go and got straight to my feet with the biggest smile I could muster. "Alright! It's already the best dream ever!" I said, wiping the snow off of my legs. I didn't really wear anything warm for pajamas. I usually wore a t-shirt and sports shorts to bed, even in the winter because I was always hot. I adjusted my over-sized Pewdiepie merch t-shirt and turned to see a very stunned Sans just staying completely frozen in his place.

A small giggle escaped my lips as I patted his head affectionately and skipping off towards the East to find more fun things to do during this dream.

oOo

"...BROTHER?! WHAT WAS THAT?! WHO WAS SHE?!" Papyrus shook Sans out of his dazed state. The shorter skeleton blinked, unsure of how to process the event that just happened. He had never met that girl before… Nor had he remembered seeing her during any sort of timeline. He and Papyrus had been patrolling Snowdin right outside the ruins for Frisk to come around like he always did but instead found that girl lying in the snow.

She must have been insane or something because who the hell just randomly kisses a stranger?! Let alone a monster?! Sans knew she was human by the way she looked. She seemed older than Frisk, but not old enough to be an adult. She had tan skin that seemed significantly warm when he touched her shoulder. Her hair was unnaturally pastel pink at the top and was slowly turning into blonde towards the bottom where it rested a little bit longer than her shoulders. It parted on the right side of her round face and was pushed away from her dark brown, doe-like eyes by a pair of burgundy glasses that rested on the bridge of her wide nose.

"Brother? Sans?" Papyrus tapped his shoulder.

"W-What? Yeah… Uh… I don't know who she is," Sans stuttered out, still confused by what had just happened. He remembered her saying that it was just a dream and she could do whatever she wanted… Which did not seem like a good sign at all.

"Uh… Pap? I'm gonna go make sure she doesn't do anything stupid… Think you can look out for the human for me?" Sans asked, standing from his spot. A light blue blush dusted his face as he remembered how warm her lips felt against his mouth.

"BUT BROTHER, WHO WAS THAT GIRL?" Papyrus looked to be just as shocked about it as Sans was.

"I… Have no idea," He answered truthfully before following her footsteps towards the East.
