Hogwarts

Slytherin Dorms

Thunder roiled through the skies as lightning flashed in the distance. The quiet halls of Hogwarts were patrolled only by the still waking portraits and warmed by the crackling torches that lined the walls.

The lines that represented the underlaying fabrics of the universe began to glow and hum as a soul travelled along them. This soul like many others throughout the multiverse had slipped through the cracks and had made its way into another world where it could once again, live. As soon as the soul slipped into the sixth year Slytherin, Death appeared.

Death had sensed the disturbance in the natural order, and while it generally wouldn't have cared about something as minor as this, it saw an opportunity, an opportunity to be entertained. Death smiled, no rules had been truly broken in this event and perhaps this lost soul would prove as entertaining as the other lost souls throughout the Multiverse had proven to be.

Death turned and disappeared, there was no need to interfere here and it was needed elsewhere.

A black-haired boy with a hooked nose turned and tossed in his bed. Sweat beaded down his body as his greasy hair matted against his skin. Suddenly, he jerked forward forcefully taking in a sharp breath of the cool air common to Slytherin's dungeons. Sitting up, he blinked rapidly as he looked around. Everything looked familiar and at the same time, not.

He shook his head before cautiously getting out of bed. His head was swimming with all sorts of images, and he had no idea where he was.

Then as if the world was waiting for that exact line of questioning, everything came crashing down. Sixteen years of memories scattered around his mind simply clicked into place, giving him a glimpse at some of the strongest memories in his head in a brief flash of emotion.

A large lumbering man slurred his words as his alcohol sloshed across the floor, he smacked his wife hard and she laid whimpering on the floor as he yelled at her about her freakishness and how much he hated her.

A book filled with barely comprehensible words laid open on the floor as the little boy flipped through the pages, utterly enamored with the things the book was saying.

A red-haired girl with distinctly green eyes smiled at him, "Hey Sev!"

He sat on a stool as the entire hall filled with students and staff stared at him. The hat shouted out "SLYTHERIN!"

"It's more like the fact that you exist yah know?" Potter said smugly as the crowd laughed. Pettigrew and Black crowed in laughter with them.

"I don't need the help of Mudbloods like her!"

"I can't pretend anymore. You've chosen your way, I've chosen mine."

Those were the last words that rung through his head before his vision returned and the dark fog that had overtaken him fled into the recesses of his mind. Staring into space, a single thought floated through his mind. I'm Severus freaking Snape in his 6th year at Hogwarts.

How did he get here?

A cold shudder ran down his spine, he didn't remember dying and he was certain he'd remember something like that. He closed his eyes and focused on his memories. The last thing he remembered doing was going to bed for the night after he'd stayed up until 2 in the morning. Then nothing.

That meant he'd died in his sleep which was a rather disturbing thought, but how that resulted in him possessing Severus Snape, the character of a book series, it did not explain whatsoever. There were theories of course, any number of them could explain his current predicament, from a higher being dropping him here for its own personal amusement to some random cosmic anomaly shifting his mind through the multiverse and somehow perfectly pushing his mind into Snape's skull.

That last one was very… iffy but he wouldn't discount it until proven wrong.

Something however was bugging him, if he was Severus Snape did that mean he retained Snape's abilities.

Did he have Magic?

There was only one way to find out, reaching under the pillow where he knew Snape's wand was stowed away, he pulled at the handle of the wand gently and slid it out. He noticed immediately that wand felt cold in his hand, as if it were dead. What was wrong struck him immediately and Snape's memories confirmed his own thoughts.

The wand chose the Wizard.

And Snape's wand had rejected him, obviously. Though, there was a possible solution, I remembered reading somewhere that Hogwarts had a fund for students who didn't have the money necessary to get their school supplies and as much as it galls me to rely on charity I have to tolerate it until I gain ownership of resources of my own.

First thing tomorrow I'd talk with Slughorn and head to Diagon Alley before classes started, that would allow me to be inconspicuous about my lack of wand. And from Snape's memories the Marauders are very much a present threat, I'll admit, having a front row view at the years of Snape's war with the Marauders I can understand why he hated Harry in the series. James Potter was for all intents and purposes the world's greatest bastard before 7th year. I'm quite sure the only reason he mellowed out was because of Lily and his own parents either getting sick or dying.

Another problem was Snape's friends (I say that with a grain of salt considering they'd all kill each other at the drop of hat), I wasn't keen on keeping Snape's acquaintances, as Lily had so aptly described them, they were indeed creepy and vile but they were also useful, and they provided me connections to high society that I needed if I wanted to go anywhere in Wizarding Britain.

That was a question for later, was I even going to stay in the madhouse that was the domain of the British Ministry of Magic?

Filing that away for later I resolved to stay as far away from Dumbledore and Voldemort as I possibly could, both were users of Legilimency and I had an undefended mind, a mind filled with all sorts of information that could help them both tremendously. It didn't take a genius to see how bad of an idea being near either one of them before I could essentially cloak my mind was.

Something else I needed to do as soon as possible was brew the Remembrance Draught. According to Snape's knowledge on Potions, it would allow me to assimilate Snape's memories into my own, allowing me to call up his knowledge and skill without having to focus on it so much as it would be a part of me. That was high up on the list of things to do, the sooner I had Snape's skills, the sooner I could focus on improving them. And the sooner I could start throwing lightning bolts from the top of a mountain like the Gods of Greek Antiquity.

Sitting on the bed he rolled over and stared at the drapes that covered his bed. While this new lease on life was unexpected to say the least, he had no intention of wasting it, after all how often did someone get the chance to essentially get implanted into a fictional series in which they could reprogram reality?

Not many he suspected.

Oh, the fun he was going to have.

Slytherin's Dungeons

Slughorn's Office

Taking a deep breath, I went over my plan quietly. I needed to convince Slughorn to take me to Ollivander's this morning so I can start working on Wand-Required Classes, and two, if possible convince him to teach me Occlumency, the man is capable of hiding his thoughts from freaking Dumbledore, I need that kind of skill and I need it fast.

Shrugging my shoulders, I sighed before knocking on Slughorn's door. For a moment there was no response before a voice called me inside "Come in!" Tamping down the nervousness that was squirming in my gut, I stepped inside the room before closing the door behind me. Slughorn seemed frozen for a moment before he smiled "Good morning Mr. Snape!" he said cheerfully, he gestured to the seats in the room. "Please take a seat" he said jovially. I smiled "Thank you, Professor" before sitting down calmly.

"So, how can I help you this wry morning Mr. Snape?" he asked cordially.

I decided to be blunt, I was never a politician anyway. "I have a problem Professor, one that I think you can help me with. You see, I seemed to have damaged my wand recently as it is no longer working."

"That is not good at all my boy, not good at all." He looked genuinely concerned but then again, the man was an Occlumens, for all I know he could be putting on a show, a very believable show.

"I agree, which brings us to my purpose for coming to you this morning. I need to go to Ollivander's and get a new wand, however that brings us to my second problem, I lack the resources needed to buy myself a wand." The man looked at me appraisingly before pulling out a pouch and smiling at me sadly "You wouldn't be the first my boy" then his smile brightened "Fortunately, Hogwarts has a fund for such cases, you'll have to pay it back of course but it shall serve your purposes Mr. Snape."

I sighed mentally, that was good, with this I could get started on doing what needed to be done. Giving the Professor a practiced smile I asked, "If I may be so bold Professor, would it be possible for me to be escorted to the Alley this morning?" Slughorn waved off my question "I'll take you myself, we'll have you fixed up with a new wand by the time classes start Mr. Snape!" he said assuredly.

I smiled "Thank you, sir." Standing up, I followed him as he threw floo powder into the fireplace "The Leaky Cauldron" Slughorn intoned clearly. He waved for me to go through first, I nodded before walking through the fireplace.

I can honestly say in that moment, I agreed with Harry Potter, Magical Travel sucked. I felt like every atom that I was composed of had been clamped in place, then tugged forward so fast that when everything stopped, I could feel the whiplash crackling through my body. Then I was unceremoniously dropped on my feet in a way that nearly had me on the ground.

I restate my previous comment, I hate the Floo Network.

(A/N: The first chapter wasn't as explosive as I wanted but I may come back in the future and revamp it, so there's that. Sugestions and resources for writing this story are highly welcome, I've never written a Harry Potter fic before so any help that I can get is highly welcome.)
