AN: Disclaimer, this in terms of Heroes of Flowers canon would be after "Small Hiro One" so this fic has mild spoilers to that, and I'm not talking about the episode, so you have been warned!

It was the summer solstice, most people of San Fransokyo spend the longest day of the year like any other day, the few occasional use it as an excuse to party.

But for a lot of people? The summer solstice meant a great day to celebrate Pride Month.

And San Fransokyo's heroes were no exception to the rule either.

Especially Hiro, he was stoked! Pride Month was a day he could give support to all of his friends and family. He remembered Tadashi telling him about his first pride when he was Hiro's age (it was when he was a sad high school student at the ripe old age of nine). When he went to his first pride at eleven, Hiro felt happy seeing the bright colors and people accepting and supporting each other. It was something he wished he could have, since apart from some relatives, he was the only teen genius. Until I met Karmi- He was not going to think of her while he was monologuing!

Ahem, where was he?

Oh, right. Appreciating the beauty of the lgbtq+ community and he loved supporting his friends.

And this year, he'd be able to show Ari the beauty of going to celebrate Pride Month at a pride parade.

If he could get her to hold still so he could apply the facepaint first!

"Ari." He groaned. "My precious baby sister who jumped into my life." Hiro mumbled. "Please hold still so we can get going?"

"I just don't see the appeal." Ari twitched. "Why can't I just hold a flag and wave it and call it a day?"
He gave a mock gasp. "I am offended! The face paint of your pride flag will really bring out your eyes." And it was tradition, but she'd just complain more.
"I thought I was the one who was celebrating." Ari rolled her eyes.

"Well excuse me for being the best ally that I am and making sure my sister has the best time at her first pride." He replied. "I cannot believe you've never been to one! Why did your parents deprive you of them?"
"Several reasons." Ari shrugged. "One, I didn't know they existed until Gogo brought it up yesterday-"
"I am shocked we did not enlighten you of the magic of pride until now, we have failed."
She snickered. "Shut up. Two, crowds are... scary? Like my parents told me I could easily get lost or kidnapped, and I did recently remember that I like girls." Ari gave a light blush. "Really, really cute girls."

"If you're thinking of Juniper, I'm going to kill you."
"You don't know! You've never dated anyone!"

He groaned. "Alright, I'm done." Hiro pulled out a small hand mirror so she could see the handiwork. A small copy of a lesbian pride flag was painted on Ari's face.

"Huh." Ari hummed. "It is better than holding a flag the entire time."
"See? I told you." He grinned. "Let's go down to the cafe and meet the others."

Baymax was the first to spot them. "Hello, Hiro, Ari." He waved.

Fred then jumped over to him, his usual kaiju beanie replaced with one that had pan colors. "Ari my dude! Nice facepaint!" He grinned. "Your work, Hiro?"
"Yep!" Hiro puffed his chest with pride, heh, pride. "Nice beanie."
"Thanks!"
"Am I the only one who's gonna wear facepaint?" Ari noted that Wasabi and Honey Lemon were wearing matching bi t-shirts, and Gogo had a rainbow dyed jacket on.

"No, there will be a lot of people who wear facepaint." Wasabi told her. "We met a few last time."
"Yeah! They gave Hiro and I good facepainting tips!" Honey Lemon added.

"You could just get a t-shirt, they sell some there." Gogo suggested.
The response was expected. "I am not taking off my sweater!" Ari clutched her sleeves.

"They also sell pride capes."
"Ooh I love capes." Ari grinned. "I wonder why Big Hero 6 don't have any capes." She didn't notice the group sweating.

"Um, I bet they saw the Incredibles, y'know?" Fred suggested.
"What does that have to do with no capes?" Ari frowned.

Hiro gave her a long and dry look. "Sis, please tell me you have seen the Incredibles."
"No?"

He and Fred both started sputtering. "This is officially the worst Pride ever!" Fred dramatically fell to the ground. "And we haven't even gotten there!"
Wasabi snickered. "How are we gonna get there this year? I'd offer to drive but..." Less said about his car at the bottom of the bay the better.

As if lady luck was on their side, Cass walked over. "Oh you guys can borrow my car to get to the parade!" She smiled. "Just make sure to bring it back."
"We will." Gogo replied.

"And we're off!" Honey Lemon was the first to get up. "C'mon guys, the sooner we can get there the sooner we can sample all the rainbow dyed food!"

"Rainbow dyed food?" Ari blinked. "What kind of food?"
"Cupcakes and cookies mostly." Hiro replied. "And brownies with rainbow M&Ms, mhmmm."

"You better not eat sweets till you get sick young man." Cass told him. "Have a good time you two!"
"We will!" Hiro chuckled. "C'mon Ari, you can have shotgun."

"Why is there a shotgun in your car?"
"That's not what I- oh you're laughing, very funny Ari.."

It was a less than twenty minute drive, it would've been quicker if Gogo drove but everyone seemed to protest it, for some reason. Finally they had gotten to a street that was bursting with colors, all of them colors of the various pride flags.

"Hey Gogo? Can you show me where they sell the pride capes?" Wasabi asked her. "I might want one myself."
"Sure." So the group had made a small pitstop at a stand to grab capes, Ari and Fred also got one while Wasabi picked out a white, blue, and pink cape.

"Can I ask what the colors mean?" Ari raised an eyebrow. "Are they more bi colors?"
Wasabi gave a chuckle. "No." He gestured to his cape. "These are trans colors."
"Trans?" She blinked.
He sighed, but didn't look offended. "It's a part of the community, transgender people are people who's gender does not match their sex."
"Ohhhh." Ari realized. "You look great with the cape on!"
Wasabi smiled. "Thanks, Ari."

"I bring cupcakes for everyone!" Fred had gone to the sweets stand and got a cupcake for everyone's perspective pride colors, lucky Wasabi got two, but he shared his second one with Hiro, who was more interested in the brownies but accepted the treat.
"These are really good." Honey Lemon wiped the frosting from her mouth. "

"Was this stand here last time?" Gogo raised an eyebrow. "I don't recalls the sweets stand selling brownies."
"No." Fred popped a whole brownie in his mouth. "Ish ws nw."
"Don't talk with your mouth full."
"Hey guys!" The group turned to see Sara, David, and Mikan walking up to them. The blonde was wearing a shirt like Wasabi and Honey Lemon's, and David was holding a yellow flag with a purple circle on it. Mikan was wearing one of the cakes, that had shades of grey with a stripe of purple in it. "Fancy seeing you here!"

"Fancy seeing you too." Hiro chuckled. "We just got here half an hour ago."
"We've been here for two hours." David commented. "What took y'all so long?"
Mikan then got a good look of Ari. "Aww, Ari has a cute facepaint on! So adorable!" Ari buried her face into her sweater and mumbled something about teasing.

"Huh." Sara shrugged. "We're about to go to one of the facepaint stands, wanna come?"
Everyone but Hiro and Ari shot their hands up. "I think Ari and I will spend some quality bonding time while you guys get fancy paint." Hiro gently held her hand.

"Aw, have fun guys!" Honey Lemon shrugged. "Meet us back at the usual spot?"
"By the cafe near the cape stand?" Ari questioned
"Yep!"
"Alright." Ari smiled. "Bye!"
"C'mon." Hiro tugged her. "I know some really cool places to check out."

They spent awhile looking at the colorful balloons and flags people were holding in the air. Ari got to chat with various folks who all gave her hugs when Hiro told them it was her first pride. It gave her emotions of being accepted. "Okay, you were right." She turned to Hiro.
"What was that?" He was smirking his stupid smirk.
"This... was awesome." Oh no, she was starting to feel tears swelling up in her eyes. "I didn't think being gay was that special and saying it was is just wanting attention-"
"Who told you that and where can I find them?"

"I did, thank you very much." Ari rolled her eyes. "But it's great that a lot of people are able to celebrate who they are, a few generations ago it was impossible I guess."

"Yeah, society stinks." Hiro nodded. "Did you enjoy your first pride?"

Ari nodded. "Yeah, I did. Mostly because I had the best supportive brother in the world."
"Aww!"

"Though you're the only brother I have in the world."
"Hey!"

And so they met back with the others, and the rest of the event was full of color, happiness, and feeling belonged.

They were definitely going to more pride events.
