Seriously, this ship needs more fics. I'm seeing a serious lack of fics for this pairing and I'm here to mend it (also, this website needs to add an Azusa Enamoto tag!)

Enjoy!

He couldn't take out the smell of the blood. No matter how many times he scrubbed. The scent stayed.

He sighed as he braced the sink. Looking at his reflection on the mirror, he hardly recognized his face.

Tall, blonde, blue eyes.

Amuro Tooru. Furuya Rei. Bourbon. Zero.

Who am I?

The case had been solved. They had already toppled the organization. There was no need to stay undercover. He could finally go back to his regular work as a police officer and protect the nation.

And yet..there was still a reluctance to part with the café under the detective agency. The clincking of porcelain, the brewing of coffee, the triangle pockets of sandwiches delicately plated - Azusa.

It was her, wasn't it?

He had fought tooth and nail to keep her away from the sights of the organization (as they could use her as a leverage against him). He wasn't supposed to grow attached. It was just an assignment, nothing more, nothing less.

But the quiet mornings as they bustled around to prepare the for the day, her compliments on the way he brewed the coffee, and the tidbits of life hacks she shared from the conversations with her customets - it was a quiet break in his turbulent life. She was one of the few pockets of sunshine in this dark world.

He had to tell her. Tell her that he was leaving.

Even if he didn't want to.

But as one who walked on the fine line between the dark and the light, he couldn't get her involved.

...

She knew this day was coming. She just didn't think it would be so soon.

It had barely been a year since he came through her doors, asking if he could work in the café. A tall, handsome man in his late 20s asking for a job at a small café was uncommon. And based on her location, she had seen her fair share of suspicious people or clients of Detective Mouri Kogoro - people who had secrets to hide.

And Tooru Amura had plenty to hide. He was always punctual, but try as he may, there would be days when he walked around with a slight limp, or his sleeves would be long to hide the bandages wrapped around his forearm, or when he would brush away his head injuries, citing it as just a bump that he got at home.

She wouldn't have noticed if she didn't work with him every day. She suspected that he was involved in something dangerous, but she knew enough not to question things. Her café was underneath a detective agency after all. If anything was amiss, Detective Mouri Kogoro would know.

So she kept quiet and went along his stories. Leading the quiet life, running the café, and talking to her customers with him.

"I have to leave."

His eyes were steady, his expression showing regret, but his smile - it was his fake smile. She didn't know if he would ever show her a real one.

"Do stop by once in awhile."

She finally said in the end. He nodded and the next thing she knew, he had walked out the door.

...

Ding

"Irasshaimase!"

She turned around and stopped in her tracks. Her grip on the serving tray slackened as she stared at him.

"Nice to see you again, Azusa-san." He said with a smile. It was a soft one. A genuine one.

She grinned. "What brings you here?"

He slid in the chair in front of her and said, "I thought I would drop by. I've missed the club sandwiches of this place, after all."

"Anything else?"

"Ah, maybe a hot americano too."

"Coming right up." She said cheerfully as she started her task.

He rested his chin on the palm of his hand as he watched her work. She was still as efficient as ever, even more so after he left, as she had to run the place on her own. But then again, she had been fine before he came so it was no surprise that she was a capable woman. It had been 2 years since then and she had grown beautifully.

"Azusa-san." He called out softly. She turned to him with an inquiring gaze. "Would you like to go get dinner some time?"

Her eyes widened and a blush crept up her cheeks. Setting down the coffee in front of him, she said, "And who is asking?"

He smiled.

"Furuya Rei."
