A/N: Inspired by Jace's line in the show "Nope, Jace Wayland is Switzerland" when he's caught in the middle of an argument between the Lightwood siblings. Also, Malec, because duh.
Disclaimer: Do I look like Cassie Clare? No, I don't. Otherwise this scene would have definitely been in either the show, the books, or both.
The One Time Alec Is Lazy
Of all the things Magnus could've walked into Alec's room to discover, Alec himself laying around on his bed was not one that he'd ever expected to find.
"Alec?" Magnus asked incredulously. "Honey, what are you doing in here?"
"Taking the day off," Alec groaned. "I work too much."
Magnus snorted. "You're only just now realizing this?"
"Shut up," Alec grinned, sitting up.
"Not likely," Magnus said, walking farther into the room and sitting down next to him.
"Where are Isabelle, Jace, and Clary?" Alec asked.
"I'm not sure where Clary and Jace disappeared to, but Isabelle's in her room," Magnus said. "You know Izzy's dating Simon now?"
"Yeah, Izzy told me," Alec said. "I think she's a lot happier with Simon than she ever was with Meliorn."
"That's good, right? We want a happy Isabelle," Magnus teased.
"Probably," Alec agreed, kissing him lightly.
Clary and Jace appeared in the doorway. "Hey, Magnus," Clary said. "Hi, Alec. Where's Izzy?"
"She's in her room," Magnus supplied.
"Thanks. What are you two up to?" Jace asked.
"Would you believe Alec's taking the day off?" Magnus said. Alec glared at him. You had to, the look plainly said.
Clary looked stunned. "Really? Alec? Our Alec Lightwood? Taking the day off?" She put a hand to her heart dramatically. "It's a miracle! Stop the presses!"
Alec was grinning like an idiot. He and Clary's relationship had thawed somewhat since he started dating Magnus and gotten over his crush on Jace. They weren't completely friends - but they were getting there.
"Shut up, Clary," he laughed. "It's not that big a deal."
"Tell that to Izzy," Clary said with a devilish grin.
Alec paled theatrically, though the effect was ruined by his smile. "No! No! Don't tell Izzy!" Alec joked.
Clary disappeared from the doorway; a moment later, she came back with her best friend in tow.
"Tell her, Magnus," Clary said, stepping into the room. Izzy followed, looking confused.
"Alec's taking the day off," Magnus told her.
Izzy's eyes went wide and she did much the same thing Clary had, with a little dramatic gasp for effect. "No! Tell me it isn't true! Alec, Alec Lightwood, my overworked brother, is actually taking the day off? This day is going to go down in history! Quick, Clary, where's your sketchbook?"
Alec laughed. "Shut up, Iz."
It appeared that Jace couldn't resist joining in. "It's rare, that's for sure," he teased. "Alec never takes days off. You sure you aren't on something? 'Cause I can't think of any other reason at all that you'd take the day off. Like maybe, I don't know, you're overworked?"
"You're not supposed to join them, Jace! You're supposed to be on my side!" Alec protested. "You're my parabatai!"
"Nope, no sides. Jace Herondale is Switzerland," Jace joked, referring back to a rather strenuous time in their friendship. That joke had been the one bright spot in Alec's dark world at the time.
"Then why'd you join them?" Alec teased.
"No, you're Ireland, Jace," Izzy piped up. "Neutral on the outside but secretly helping the Allies."
Jace nodded. "Sounds about right."
"Hey!" Alec protested. "Now Germany's alone! I need Magnus or somebody to be Japan." He turned to his boyfriend. "Please tell me you're on my side, at least?"
"Of course, darling," Magnus said, finding Alec's hand with his own.
"What countries are you two claiming?" Jace asked the girls.
"I'm the U.S.," Clary said. "I grew up in New York; it's only fair."
"What about you, Iz?" Alec asked.
"I think I'll be Great Britain," Izzy said. "I'm not being the Soviet Union."
"All hail Her Majesty, Queen Isabelle Lightwood of Britain!" Clary joked.
Jace gave a halfhearted bow. "Your Majesty," he said, laughing.
"Kneel before your queen, Germany!" Isabelle teased. "You too, Japan!"
Alec laughed. "Never, Your Royal Pain-in-the-ass!"
Isabelle pretended to be offended. "How dare you, you fiend!"
Magnus joined in now. "And thus starts World War II - a simple argument between Germany and Great Britain."
Alec laughed. "Whose side are you on?"
"Mine," Magnus said, and at this, everyone laughed.
Simon entered the room next. "Hey, guys," he said. "I was looking for Izzy and I heard voices. What's going on?"
"Ooh, good, you're here!" Izzy exclaimed. "You can be the Soviet Union!"
"Um. What?" Simon asked.
"We're kind of pretending to be the different countries involved in World War II," Alec explained. "Jace is Ireland, Izzy is Great Britain, Clary is the U.S., Magnus is Japan, and I'm Germany. We need a Soviet Union and an Italy."
"Don't forget Switzerland!" Jace added.
Alec laughed, shaking his head. "Fine. Apparently we need a Switzerland, too."
Simon looked confused for a moment, then shrugged. "I've seen crazier things than this," he muttered. "Alright, I'll be the Soviet Union."
"Great! Now we just need an Italy and a Switzerland," Clary said.
At that moment, Maia walked into the room. Alec was beginning to think he was cursed - how had all of his friends somehow showed up today, the one day he was actually taking off?
"What's going on? I heard voices while looking for Jocelyn," Maia said.
"We're pretending to be the different countries involved in World War II," Jace explained. "Alec's taking the day off, and that started a lot of teasing, which led to this."
"We need an Italy and a Switzerland, if you'd like to join," Clary offered.
"Sure," Maia shrugged. "Why not?"
"Which country are you?" Magnus asked.
"Who's who?"
Alec pointed in turn to each of his friends as he said their country. "Ireland, the U.S., Great Britain, the Soviet Union, Japan, and me, Germany."
"Hell, I'm Italy," Maia said. "Now we just need Jordan to be Switzerland."
"Did I hear my name, Maia?" Jordan materialized in the doorway.
"Yeah. These guys were playing around pretending to be countries involved in World War II, and I said you needed to be Switzerland because practically every other country is taken," Maia told him. "I'm Italy, Alec's Germany, Magnus is Japan, Simon's the Soviet Union, Clary's the U.S., Izzy's Great Britain, and Jace is Ireland."
"Okay then," Jordan said. "So how exactly does this work?"
"We've pretty much just been trading friendly insults," Izzy explained. "Germany, Japan, and Italy versus the U.S., Great Britain, and the Soviet Union. Jace is neutral but has been helping us, and Switzerland can just be the ref to make sure this doesn't get too out of hand."
"I can handle that," Jordan said.
"World War II, commence!" Jace joked. Everyone laughed.
Alec struck the first blow. "Hey, Britain, Soviets! Guess what? I'm going to just kinda take my land back over here!"
Izzy replied, "What? Why? You can't do that! Don't you remember the treaty?"
"To hell with the treaty," Alec replied. "Here's a thought: how about we make a new treaty that allows me to take back some of my land while you keep control?"
"That sounds good," Izzy said.
Alec grinned and muttered under his breath, "You have no idea how stupid you are, Britain."
"What about you, Soviets?" Alec asked Simon out loud.
"We don't care," Simon said. "Go ahead." He dropped his voice and added, "I don't trust you for a second, Germany, you foul Shadowhunting scum, and I'm not doing this for your benefit. I'm doing this for a power play."
Jordan became the narration. "And so the world continued on as peacefully as possible. Little did Britain and the Soviets know, Germany was plotting to invade them..."
The rest of the afternoon passed happily, the eight friends laughing and joking and playing their WWII game. Eventually, though, they began to leave in pairs, until Alec and Magnus were alone.
"Finally," Magnus drawled. "I thought they'd never leave."
Alec kissed him, hard. Magnus kissed him back, waving his hand lazily to close and lock the door.
"Mm...I rather liked that," Magnus said.
Alec smiled. "I can make you like it even more."
"Oh, really?" Magnus asked.
"Yes," Alec said, shifting so he was laying on top of Magnus. "Really."
This time, when Alec kissed him, it was slow and gentle and lovely at first. Magnus groaned, a sound in the back of his throat, and Alec took that as an invitation to speed up. He flicked his tongue across Magnus's lips, a question, and Magnus opened his mouth eagerly to let Alec in. Alec took the invitation and ran with it, his tongue thoroughly exploring Magnus's mouth. Magnus responded in kind, biting down on Alec's lip, his tongue darting in and out and playing with him, teasing. Alec felt Magnus wrap his arms around Alec, burying a hand in his short hair and wrapping the other one around his wasit, pulling him closer. Alec slipped his own hand underneath Magnus's shirt, making Magnus groan again.
Air became a necessity, and Alec only reluctantly pulled away, burying his nose in Magnus's throat. His hand was still roaming over Magnus's body underneath the shirt, and he heard Magnus sigh in pleasure.
"You were right, darling," Magnus breathed. "I did love that."
"I love you," Alec murmured. "I love you more than anything in the world."
"I love you, too," Magnus said, kissing Alec's head lightly. "And I don't say that and mean it very often."
Alec kissed his throat. "I know," he said.
"I love everything about you, Alexander," Magnus murmured.
"You're amazing just the way you are, too, Magnus," Alec whispered. "From your...shall we say exotic...taste in clothes to your absolutely perfect hair to your beautiful cat eyes, every inch of you is perfect."
"Mmm...just kiss me again," Magnus said.
Alec raised his head and kissed him again, starting to slide his hand up Magnus's side and taking his shirt with it. Magnus groaned.
"This is even better," Magnus gasped when Alec pulled back to slide the shirt off.
"Love you," was all Alec said as Magnus slipped his own shirt off.
As soon as Alec's shirt was off, Alec pressed himself closer against Magnus and kissed him again. Alec kissed along his jaw and down his throat. Magnus tilted his head back into the pillow to give Alec more room. Alec kept moving down, kissing everywhere he could reach without having to get off of Magnus. Magnus moaned, his eyes closed pleasureably.
"How about we take this a little farther, shall we?" Alec murmured.
Magnus smiled. "Of course."
The next morning dawned bright and cold, and Alec snuggled closer into Magnus the moment he woke up.
"Mmm...I love you, too, Alec," Magnus murmured.
"I should take the day off more often," Alec murmured. "If it lets me do this more often."
"You know you can do this any time," Magnus said. "You really can; I don't mind at all."
Alec squirmed around so that he could kiss Magnus deeply on the lips. Magnus returned the kiss immediately, and Alec loved it.
"You're beautiful," Alec sighed when he pulled away.
"You're perfect," Magnus replied.
Alec smiled. "You're amazing."
"You're passionate."
"You're the love of my life."
Now Magnus smiled. "I can't beat that."
"I love you, Magnus," Alec said, kissing him lightly.
"I love you, too, Alec," Magnus replied.
"How late do you think we can stay in here before they start to wonder where we are?" Alec asked. "Clary and Jace and Izzy and everyone I mean."
"Oh, I'd give them a couple of hours," Magnus said. "After the game we all played yesterday, I'd be surprised if the others didn't go off and do more or less what we did."
"I know Jace and Clary probably did," Alec said. "Knowing Jace the way I do and seeing how much they obviously love each other, I wouldn't put it past them."
"Isabelle and Simon might have, too," Magnus said. "With Isabelle's...reputation...and their own attraction, it's highly likely that they went at it, too."
"I'm not sure about Jocelyn and Luke, though," Alec murmured. "They don't strike me as the type to do that unless, like, they hadn't seen each other for a while because she's a Shadowhunter."
"Who cares?" Magnus said. "All that matters is you and me, together and not caring about what the rest of the world thinks."
Alec smiled and kissed him again. "I never imagined I'd say this, but fuck the rest of the world. I don't care what anyone else thinks, I don't give a shit about how my parents feel about our relationship, and I really don't give a damn as to what everyone says. I love you, and nothing anyone says will ever change that."
"Well said, darling," Magnus said. "Well said. Now, what do you say we have a little fun while the rest of the Institute sleeps?"
"Magnus?"
"Yes, Alec?"
"Shut up and kiss me."
Magnus smiled, and Alec snuggled even closer into his embrace.
"I thought you'd never ask."
I wrote this like a long time ago but only just now got around to posting it so...and also, there is a reason I'm posting this as the TV show and not the books, because the whole inspiration came from the show, so that's why. Anyway, hope you enjoyed, please leave a review!
