If you can calculate every momentum and position of every single atoms in this universe, it's possible to precisely foresee the future. However, such calculations required ridiculous amount of energy and mental capabilities that only an imaginary being, called Laplace's Demon was able to do such thing.

" Oi, Faust! Why the hell are you staying cooped up here?"

I put down the novel I was reading, and looked at the brown haired boy, with left half of his face swollen red, and an imprint shaped like a stick on the right.

" You know, the teach considered suspending you guys already."

He laughed, or at least tried to. His swellings and stick-shaped mark on his face made his effort look pitiful, even with him actually deserving them.

" Hmph, comparing heaven's sight with school regulations is just plain stupid."

This was what the trio always said whenever they got caught, to whoever caught them. Some changes were made to whom they talked to, but essentially, same thing. Issei's already swollen left eye twitched, if that was even possible.

" Dude, at least let me say my part."

" Boring. Change the script next time."

Kuoh Academy boasted the quality and quantity of female students across Japan due to their past of being a girls-only school. An extravagant school in contrast of its very generous tuition, and of course, even more generous scholarship. The school could contain at least 400 students, and still wide enough to feel very spacious. It even had huge forest garden, and marble statues of Zechs, said to be the founder of this academy. It was really weird that a male was a founder for an all-girls school.

I couldn't really judge, though.

" Man, I thought it's gonna be a cinch to get girlfriend here. Why the hell am I walking home with a dude?"

" And pretty much spend the rest of your time with a bald lolicon, and a voyeur, which are also guys."

He snickered, but his attention was quickly stolen by girls from volleyball club. Seeing that, I took out a book that I borrowed from the library, and flipped the page to where I left off. With this pervert here, he'd at least stay for another 15 minutes, or...

" AH! IT'S HYOUDOU!"

" DAMN, AIM AT HIM!"

And I just got my book out. Well, I expected this too. The guy ran like the wind, under the siege of leather balls. His evasion skill got better and better these days. With my companion gone, I leisurely walked home, my eyes glued to the book.

My 20 minutes commuting to home was really short, and without me realizing, I had arrived already.

" Ah, bro. You're home."

" Mm-hmm."

I didn't even take my eyes off the book. My sister was laying on the sofa with her phone, as always. The mother of the family was opening the convenient store bento, while the dad was on the other side of the table, waiting while looking at TV.

" Hey, mom, dad."

After giving a brief gesture of greeting, I went upstairs. Instead of changing, I sat on my chair and put my feet up while reading. Reading prim and proper was elegant and all, but for me, comfort was first on the list. Time passed, and the book was finished. I glanced at the clock and saw that it was already 2 AM. It seemed my love for books got the better of me again.

It's fine, though.

I put down my book and turned off the light. Of course, the alarm was set already. My parents pounded Japanese punctuality so hard it was carved to me. Mother especially would try and murder me before I could be late. Quite understandable, considering her job as a teacher.

A screech came from downstairs. I simply walked off to the upper floor bathroom, since down below, things were hectic. Still, it was daily occurence, and well, I was used to it. Then, a crash, and seething, loud voice came from below.

" I couldn't sleep because of your DAMN SNORING ALL NIGHT! AND I TOLD YOU NOT TO DRINK COFFEE!"

Yep. There it was. This might not happen exactly daily, but let's say, once every two or three days? So, after quickly finishing my morning routine, I went for school. The station wasn't too far, and with how early I was, being late was unlikely.

The crowded train didn't allow me to read, thus I simply wanted to reach the destination really quickly. Fortunately, the ride didn't take long. There, three males were walking in tow. One boy with quite athletic build and almost skinhead style, one nerd-looking boy, and Issei. It seemed the kendo club was holding back a lot. Their injuries could barely be seen anymore, although there were some swellings, but I quote, a cheap price for booty.

I was about to greet them, when I saw the bald one showing the magazine in his hand to his two compatriots. I quickly rescinded my will. It was still this early and they were already thinking with the other head. Far be it for me to judge, since I was also a teenager, thus a male in hormonal period. However, avoiding troubles with majority of population in Kuoh took predecence over greeting an acquaintance. I quote, degenerate literature.

Reading another book, the trip to school went on very quickly.

" Kuroki-san. Are you paying attention?"

I snapped from my daydreaming, and turned to my game opponent. The atmosphere was just too sleep-tempting, and I returned my attention to the chessboard in front of me.

" Sorry, Shitori-kaichou. The novel I read last night was amusing, and I ended up thinking about that."

" Are you saying that I'm such a readable opponent that you can afford to think of something else?"

Chuckling a little, I earned a playful flare from the student council president. Her intimidating factor was quite high in contrast to her petite figure, barely reaching my neck. One of the greatest minds in Kuoh Academy, and the one who competed for the top spot of 3rd year with her nemesis.

" Well, I think of this as just a hobby and nothing else. Why burden yourself for something meant for refreshment?"

She sighed and drank her cup of tea. The tea the student council offered was delicious, and one of the reasons I came to visit every now and then.

" If I may ask, what kind of novel was that?"

I stood up, not wanting to be late for returning the book and earning the ire from the old man librarian. Leaving my bag there, I indicated that I planned to return there.

" The Faustian Woes."

After returning the book, my phone rang. A very rare occasion, as I didn't exactly have many people messaging except during exam times. Opening the mail, I saw a familiar male with an unfamiliar female, looking quite close. Hand-in-hand, even.

" Hey, hey! It seems spring has come for me!"

" Hm. Was she from another species or something?"

It seemed that some way or another, that irredeemable pervert had found someone or something that wanted to date him. Since he sent a photo, it was highly unlikely for him to hallucinate or the likes. The list of possibilies went on, just like what was between zero and one. Finding such thoughts extremely amusing, I challenged my mind to simulate how such scenario was even possible.

The game was finished, and I drank my cup dry. Then, I excused myself out of the really huge office that sometimes made me wonder if the president had a higher standing compared to teachers, maybe even vice-headmaster.

Sun had already set. As I commuted home, my phone rang again.

" Screw you dude. It's Saturday tomorrow and I got a date. Haha!"

Well, let's see how that actually worked out. It was always good to have opportunities to test out scenarios and processes, especially in real life. This rare phenomenon, I really wanted to see first-hand.

I was around several blocks away from my home when I heard a yelp from nearby alley. Well, several crooks and gangs wandered around these blocks. Fortunately, they weren't that much, and wasn't too active during the day. Even at night, these kinds of creatures were quite rare, so the one getting harassed must be unlucky.

" Oy, oy. What's a good girl like you walking around this late?"

" You looking for some fun, these older brothers are free."

" Smokin' foreigner-chan, let us show you around Japan at night."

Yep, that girl must've had her luck spent already. There were about 4 people pressuring her, all already thinking with their lower heads. They reminded me of some other people, but at least they had the decency not to harass—

Well, if peeking were not considered harassment, then yes.

Honestly, I would've liked to just go home, and simply let things unfold. But, letting someone possibly get raped in front of you was distasteful... So on, so on, novel protagonist reasoning and monologue.

There was a house built nearby, so weapons were plenty. Bricks and wooden blocks could knock out an adult instantly, especially when swung hard enough. Judging by build, I was 80% sure I could put one to sleep with a good whack immediately. Now, let's see how they move. Good, none looked like they could pose a threat, but let's secure a good escape route. They didn't notice anything.

Wait, what's with that in her hand?

Before things got rough, I gave thug A one good whack on the head. He crumpled down like a sack of potatoes without even a groan. Before the others could react, I raised the brick again and smashed thug B's nose with the brick again. They were so enamored with the girl that they didn't even react like good delinquents should.

Finally, thug C and D reacted, but it was too late. They were too shocked that two of them got downed really fast by an unknown assailant.

Right hook was not suited for narrow combat, and the guy's fist met my brick. Again, I shoved it to his face. I didn't even consider taking down three like this. I thought at most two, then switch approach. The final guy waited for me to come, and I faked a throw, and he flinched, then threw the brick for real. Nicely flattened.

Huh, well, not that I complained. How interesting. What factor made them unable to react? I doubted it was just plain shock. There must be something else, or shock factor was just that strong. Well, more food for thought.

" Oh, right. Well, those guys might not even remember today that well."

I turned to the one almost assaulted. Although he found it a little questionable, I really saw a vein popping on her forehead and her small, white fist balled up. Perhaps she was looking to rob those muggers instead? Would I get mugged here?

Judging from the dress, though, she didn't seem like a robber type, more like a scammer.

" You! Who asked you to interfere?!"

I turned around, and I could hear her gasp again. Understandable, because I wore a paper bag on my head. Still, it was so sudden that I had no time to put two holes for eyes on them. Also, the shock factor must've been doubled at least with an assailant looking like a serial killer.

" Oh, were you gonna rob them? Go ahead, just spare me."

The brick was in my hand. Even if she was black-belt or something, I was sure I could take on a dressed girl barely reaching half of my neck with that. This bad boy smashed some faces tonight and it wouldn't mind doing one more.

Shockingly, she was stomping her dainty heels to the ground in frustration.

" Why did you even consider a noble lady like me to mug those human plebs?! And you, aren't you too rude, raising that brick like you want to smash my face?!"

" Precaution."

" And the paper bag... Just take it off. It's too spicy to the eyes."

Her anger and frustration would've been more intimidating if she had been taller. I was a little below average, but she was even more below average, even for women. My height was something that'd sometimes lose to even a woman, after all.

" Well, anyway, if you were actually planning on killing those people back there, sorry for my interference. I'll be off then."

This girl was possibly someone who thought of herself higher than humans, judging from her words and actions. Those kinds of people had the possibility to be amiable if known better, but I wasn't going to spend time doing that.

Just look at her. Purplish pink dress with some sort of tails that resembled phoenix feathers, two blonde ringlets, and unblemished skin. I considered turning tails when something I thought about, but didn't really expect happen. Something flew from deep in the alley straight to the head. It was clearly directed at me, and this person wasn't even fazed.

That meant she was an accomplice.

The goal was to unmask me. I was careful to make sure no trouble would ever find me, and today I once again proved that kindness had lots of probability to be answered with vile actions. Well, no use crying over spilt milk.

My eyes caught a tall figure beside the female, and when I blinked, it left an after-image. I immediately ducked and bolted out of there. Judging from the sound, it was a bladed weapon being held reverse-edge. I thought being treated like this was possible, but this was way too much. From now on, I'd be more careful when helping people.

Fortunately, they didn't follow. I cursed my naivety and stupidity. How did such big risk elude my calculations? What if they chased after me? What if this didn't end here? Really, putting a disguise mitigated such possibility, and I was glad I was sane enough to at least do that.

Third POV.

" Siris, stop."

The shadow that already lowered its body like a feline preparing to chase mouse relaxed and instead moved to the girl's side. She clicked her tongue, but abided by her orders. That was her job, after all.

The young girl sighed as her other aide flashed beside her. Yes, flashed, as in moving so fast that she blurred and suddenly appeared. The girl was annoyed. Not only that lowly human dared to not give her his identity, he also left so abruptly. Despite her noble upbringing, she understood that good deed done for her must be returned. How could she thnk whoever that was without knowing name or appearance?

" I did go too far, though... Well, can't be helped. I'll be sure to teach him some manners next time!"

Her tone was rude, but deep inside, she was puzzled. He was a normal human, yet he evaded blows from two devil knights twice in a row. That couldn't simply be coincidence, or her brother's knights were truly incompetent, and she knew that wasn't true.

" Ravel-sama. Please don't run off again on your own next time."

She shrugged her aide's warning, and they went away somewhere.
