Love So Silent
Prologue
So after many years of not finishing this story I have decided to come back and rewrite it! It is however unfortunate that my account was hacked into and this story among a few others of mine was deleted. Because I never had Love so Silent backed up anywhere else I have completely lost this story and due to that I will be completely remaking it. It will follow the main points of the original Love so Silent but I will be making this different from the last version. You will see more of that in the first official chapter. I feel that my writing has come a long way from when I first wrote this and I just want to show that here. This story will be much darker like the original had intended to be but I'm now more capable of actually writing. It will have abusive themes, dark themes, and possibly even sexual (This is something I haven't totally decided on yet) so I've decided to make it rated M instead of the original rated T.
I'd also like to point out I changed her name from Eris to Hollis as it fit the Evans flower theme and I fell in love with that name. I also changed her from black hair to red, and her eyes to hazel. I want her to have themes of looking like her mother but the key point of not having her mothers eyes but her fathers. This will play a part in Severus and her relationship later on. I didn't want her to be just another Lily to him.
Also finally if any of you downloaded my original story at any point and you still have it I would absolutely be extremely happy to get a copy from you. I miss my old work and would love to have a chance to read it again. You have no idea how hard I have searched the internet for any copy of my old work and always ended up disappointed.
Without further ado... the story!
"Time will not slow down when something unpleasant lies ahead"
~Harry Potter
An older man stood illuminated by the moons soft glow, the harsher glare of a roaring fire silhouetted behind him. The shadows cast by the lights surrounded his face away from his companies wondering gaze. It easily hid the worried expression that cratered his aged face, causing him to look ancient. The twinkle that always seemed to sparkle in his eyes had diminished leaving the blue to look pale. His hands were clasped behind his back causing him to stand straighter, refusing to buckle under the weight that he held on his shoulders.
"Headmaster," called a silky voice. It wrapped around the room forcing the older man's attention back onto the one who called out. "Why did you summon me?" The man's face was set in an impassive stare. He showed no outward signs of his inner turmoil. Turning around Albus cleared his throat, his silver hair glinting with the moonlight.
"Ah, Severus, my old friend," Dumbledore said seemingly coming out of deep thought. His hand came up to run through his beard as he slowly walked over to his chair. His free hand came up to rest upon it. The flames illumined the old man's face causing him to look worn out. "You seem in good health." Severus sighed, having no time for games and small talk. Taking in a deep breath he exhaled slowly before opening his mouth.
"We both know this is not a meeting to trade meaningless chit chat," Severus stated in a bored tone. "Please, drop the pleasantries and get to the point. I'm quite busy this evening." A small spark ignited within the depths of Dumbledore's eyes. It erased the small lines around his eyes as he took humor in riling the young man up.
"It seems you are in good health this evening," he said in humor. "Always in such a hurry." Severus simply stared not bothering to utter another word. Over the years he had learned sometimes staying silent sped the process along faster. "However, your right, pleasantries are not on the agenda for tonight." The faint sparkle in his eyes had been smothered out leaving behind a tiredness that hadn't been seen on the old man's face since the war.
If Severus hadn't known better he would have thought they were back towards the end of the war when the dark haired wizard had first defected. He watched as Dumbledore moved toward the fire seemingly to warm himself. His face was once again shielded from view.
"I wouldn't be wrong in believing that you remember that promise from all those years ago," Albus began after a moment of thought. They both knew he hadn't forgotten.
"Yes," he said gravely. His wishes that this would have had nothing to do with that promise were tarnished with the man's words. The silver-haired wizard nodded as he walked slowly back to his desk, staying silent the whole way. Irritation began to flare within Snape, but he refused to show how it affected him. His occlumency walls were up, as they always were, and never wavered. Pulling his chair out Dumbledore took a seat his eyes never leaving the other man in the room. Leaning forward he clasped his hands together resting them in front of him.
"I'll need you to keep that promise," he said seriously, his blue eyes crackling with fire. "Soon things will start to fall into place, and they will need your protection." Snape sighed as he ran his willowy fingers through his long hair. A frown seemed to be permanently etched across his lips.
"Am I the best person for this?" he asked suddenly. Doubt flooding his voice as irritation and wariness shook his nerves. Blinking Albus continued to stare as he took a careful breath. His head tilted forward in a barely there nod.
"You are the best choice for this Severus," he said carefully. Brining his fingertips up to his lips he rested them against it. "There is a part of the prophecy that holds truth toward you." This caused Snape's gaze to snap up in bewilderment.
"Me, Dumbledore?" he asked in shock. "Surely, it would be speaking of Lucius son, Draco. He and the girl are of the same age." A shadow passed over the older man's eyes, a knowledge of the unknown shining brightly within the blue orbs. Severus found himself growing irritated at the lack of knowledge for himself.
"A follower of Voldemort-," Dumbledore began as Severus twitched at the name, his hand coming to cover his arm. "-will feel what he himself cannot understand. This man will turn the tides of the war in favor of the chosen one, bringing the downfall of the Dark Lord. I believe that this man could be you."
Snape's eyes fell to the desk, his hair falling to shield his face. Emotions whirled inside of his head, his own thoughts shredding him to pieces as he tried to understand what was being said. It felt wrong inside of his own mind. Albus pushed himself to his feet calmly walking around the desk that was perfectly centered in his office. Reaching out as he drew closer to Severus, he placed his hand comfortingly on his shoulder.
"She is too young for that to be true of me," Snape finally whispered, his voice sounding older than the man standing in front of him. A soft chuckle escaped the silver-haired man. His hand squeezed Severus's shoulder lightly.
"Love is a tricky thing," he began in a light voice. The tone of the room changing dramatically as Dumbledore grew lighter. "She is young now, but one day she will blossom into a fine young lady. It will not be the love for a lover at first. No, as she grows your love for her will also grow." The hurting young man continued to send astonished stares his way. "You must understand that not everything is black and white, and the same can be said for one's feelings. The prophecy is clear, but it does not state that the love must be one of romantic inclinations. That is for time to reveal, and for you and Ms. Potter to understand."
He took a moment for his words to sink in. Removing his hand from the man's shoulder Albus moved back toward the window. His bright eyes moved to lay upon the shining moon once again.
"Now, I must end our meeting here," he said. "The school opens its doors again soon; I have much to prepare."
Not bothering to argue with the old man, knowing it would be of no use, Snape swiftly stood to his feet. His mind never strayed from their conversation as he replayed it over. He tried to find sense in what he was told, but instead a hollow feeling settled in his chest. He would not be sleeping well in the days leading up to the opening feast.
Not well at all.
