1) JaneXRochester. What if Jane never left after the failed wedding, and was there for the fire? What if before the fire Edward got the marriage annulled? (Based on the 1996 version of the Movie. My FAVE version all though many will disagree with me.)

2) This is my first Jane Eyre story.

3) Be patient with me, These older time stories are not my strongest points but I got inspired after reading my fave stories. I also have another story in progress as well.

4) Picks up right when Jane and Rochester talking the morning after the failed wedding.

Jane's Prov:

I walked through the house at Thornfield. "Good Morning, Miss. Jane. Mr. Rochester is requiring your attendance in his study." Mrs. Fairfax said, to me when she saw me. "Good Morning, Mrs. Fairfax. Perfect, Thank you. I shall go see him now." I continued to the study, thinking about the last conversation Edward and I had.

~Flashback to the night before~

I had been in the room packing up. I wanted to get out of here. My One true Love, was already Married, and I could not bare being here, and not being able to have him, as My husband. Just as I was finishing packing when there was a knock. "Jane?" I heard Mr. Rochester's voice, as I opened the door.

"I must go, sir… I can not stand being here, any longer…" I said, as I saw his face. "No Jane, dear. Please. Give me a few days. Let me prove that I love you, as my own flesh and blood. I want to be the one to take care of you for the rest of our lives. Please." I sighed, knowing if I didn't leave now, I'd loose the nerve to go. "Fine. 3 days, my love." That got a smile. "I love you." He said, causing me to smile back and said "I love you too."

~End Flashback~

and knocked. "Enter!" Edward's voice, called as I entered, the room. "Ahhh Jane. Come have a seat." I sat on the chair. "I want to apologize, for deceiving you, about the marriage to Bertha…"

I said "Why did you, Sir?" He looked to me, sighing once, before coming over and he sat in the chair beside me. "I haven't really considered her my wife since our wedding. She's mad, as you saw… We never consummated our marriage. Annulment of the marriage, and divorce were not aloud in Jamaica and I just haven't had a reason to annul it, till recently… This month has been crazy with planning our wedding, I forgot to get it officially annulled. Forgive me, love… I never meant to deceive you, my heart."

I took a deep breath before I said "Okay… I forgive you… I love you, sir." "Edward. Please." He begged, and I said "Edward." "I wrote to a friend of mine, and made a move to get the annulment official." Edward continued, before I said "Really?" He nodded, giving me confident smile. "And when it is official, I'd be honored if you would become the new Mrs. Rochester." I smiled, and said "I'd be honored."

We had just finished breakfast, before we heard commotion in the halls. "What's going on?" I asked, as we rose, and went to the halls, I could smell the smoke. "Jane, Get out with the others… I gotta make sure it's cleared upstairs. I promise, I'll be there soon." He said, placing a kiss on my head. I said "No… We go together." I said, causing him to frown. "Okay… Fine… Stay close, and if it's too bad up there, promise me, you'll go down with the others…" I said "Deal." We went up the stairs but the more up we went the more we realized it would be futile to continue on. "GRACE! BERTHA! CAN YOU HEAR ME?" Edward called. "YES!" Grace's voice called, and Bertha's cackle. "FOLLOW MY VOICE." He kept calling, as we inhaled the smoke, unintentionally "Alright, let's get out of here!" Edward, said taking our hands as we tried to escape the flames.

We were on the steps going down as the flames were following us. "Jane you go!" I didn't hesitate, I got out, followed by Grace. We watched the scene unfold. "Bertha! Come to me! I won't hurt you." He said, before Bertha hurled herself through the railing, and killing herself. Edward sighed, but came down to us, sliding and falling to the bottom, we were all coughing. "Go. Out." With one final look at Bertha, we went out of the house, dropping to my knees once we were out, in exhaustion. "Thank god." Mrs. Fairfax said, seeing us. "Peter, or John Go get the doc!" I was coughing hard, with Edward and Grace. It seemed like an eternity, the doc finally came, and gave us all a check up.

"Miss. Eyre, you, The Master, and Miss. Poole, all have inhaled too much smoke, so you three all need to rest for a few days." The doc said, to me. "Where's Mr. Rochester?" The doc led me to his room. "He's been asking for you. Says your his fiancee?" I said "Yeah, I am." Even if we didn't get married, I guess we're still engaged. Once we entered the room, I sat on the chair, taking his hand. "Hey, I'm here, Edward. My Beloved." I said, as his eyes flickered open, and met mine instantly. "Thank God." He rasped, as I helped him drink some water, and drank some myself. "thanks." He said, before I said "How you feeling my beloved?" He said "I feel like I was hit by a horse drawn carriage…" "Well you don't look like it." I caressed his cheek. "Jane." I was expecting him to pull away from my caresses, but he leaned in. "just relax. Everyone's safe. Your safe, I'm safe, the staff is safe, Adele is safe." I said, just watching his usually, complex and hardened expression, changed to a calm, and relaxed one. "Do you think I'm horrible, for not trying to save her?" He asked as I helped him sit up putting some extra pillows behind him. "You tried. That's all that matters. She made her own choices. Her judgement is in God's hands." I answered, we spent the next few days just relaxing, and resting.
