Rated 'T' for suicidal thoughts

A monster. That's what she was. A monster cursed with terrible power. The power to hurt others. Ever since that wretched power... and that mark... ever since those surfaced, it was impossible to get someone to treat her like a person. Her parents tried, tried to say that they thought of her as their little girl, and not a monster. But their eyes said it all. They were scared. Scared of what their daughter had become.

So they sent her to boarding school. Sent me to Duel Academy. They wanted someone to fix me, someone to help me control my powers. But they were too scared to keep me around any longer. So they shipped me off to the first place that would take me. But Duel Academy wasn't any different. They didn't help me control my powers- all they cared about was whether or not the monster could duel. And duel she could.

But that didn't stop the resentment. The fear. It still raged strong. The whispers in the halls, the looks of scorn. No one wanted to go to the same school as a freak. They wanted her gone. So she ran. Ran home as fast as she could. And it was then she learned... that no one wanted her. Her parents were happier living a life of their own, without their precious daughter.

The girl was done with it all. She debated whether or not it was even worth living as an outcast in a world that could never accept her. Never be kind to her. But then... I met Sayer. Sayer was nice to me. He taught me how to control my powers. How to harness my powers. He made me feel loved. But he never made me glad that I was special.

But then one day...

The Black Rose Witch had a duel. The opponent was of no consequence; weak. Surprisingly, she kept her powers and temper under control, and it seemed like no one would be hurt. But there was an explosion in a nearby building. To this day, I still don't know what caused it.

A boy fell. From the top floor. Hurtling to the ground from a dozen stories up, he'd have surely died. The Witch summoned Black Rose Dragon, who then caught the poor boy on its back, and slowly descended to the ground. The people around were naturally scared of the Witch. All except one.

"Whoa, that was scary!" The boy- I remember brown hair, a bowtie and glasses being his most notable features- said, trembling and on the verge of crying as he got off of Black Rose Dragon. "Thanks for saving me, Miss..."

"Black Rose."

"Thanks a lot, Black Rose! You're my hero."

In that moment... for a few seconds... seeing that smile... the Black Rose was not a monster. Not a freak. Not a witch. But a hero. That...

Is the one moment I have ever been glad to have my powers.
