Chapter 2 Red Like Rosa

After traveling the road for some time, the duo and their foxlike creature arrived at a white building with a red roof. At the top, they saw an odd circular symbol, "Listen Red, let me do the talking." Roman said as Ruby put her walking stick on the ground.

The two then stepped forwards, slightly started at the automatic doors. Upon looking inside, they saw a young woman with pink hair tired into two hoops. She appeared like a nurse two the duo, bowing with a smile, "Welcome to the Pokemon Center." She spoke in a joyful voice, but Roman and Ruby were still confused, "Oh, I can tell you're both new here. We get a lot of travelers on the route."

"Uh, yeah," Roman said as he, Ruby, and Eevee entered. They looked around to see the massive desk the nurse stood in front of. Behind her, a large screen and odd device with six spherical holders, "We're a bit new around here."

"What did you call this place again," Ruby spoke up, causing Roman to glare at her, "A Pokemon Center?"

"Yes, I understand if this one is a little different from the ones you've seen before." The nurse spoke, "Rest assured, it's still just like any other one." She said before giggling, "But I'm a little more easygoing than the other Nurse Joys." She then looked down to see Ruby's injured leg and hand, "Oh, you're hurt. You should have told me earlier." She said before reaching under her desk, pulling out a small first aid box, "Here, you can use this."

"Oh, thank you!" Ruby responded as she took the box.

"Eev!" Eevee cheered.

"While you are recovering," Nurse Joy added on, "I can heal you Eevee as well."

"Wait, it's actually called Eevee," Roman commented. Nurse Joy nodded as Ruby smirked towards the orange-haired criminal.

"It must your first time seeing this Pokemon in this region." Nurse Joy commented, "If you have her Pokeball, I can heal her in a matter of seconds."

"Uh, I don't have one of those." Ruby responded, picking up Eevee, "She's just been following me for a little bit now."

"Oh, she must really like you then." Nurse Joy said as she took the foxlike creature, "It will take a bit longer, I can still restore her to full health."

"Eevee!" Eevee cheered as Nurse Joy smiled. She turned around just Roman was about to speak up but was not able to get a word in. However, he saw a bookshelf to his left. The orange-haired criminal smirked as he walked over and took a few books out.

A few moments later.

Sitting at a booth, Ruby finished applying a first aid spray to her leg and hand, then bandaged the wounds. "Well, it's not like an aura, but I do feel like it is doing the trick." She said while putting some more weight on her leg. Ruby then turned to Roman, who was skimming the books' content, "Are you able to read that?"

"Surprising, yes." Roman commented, "We got lucky that the nurse also spoke the same language as us." He said before closing the book in his hands, "So, from what I gathered, this world in not Remnant. It is not inhabited by Grimm, but these creatures called Pokemon."

"Like what Eevee is, or that thing that chased us." She said with him nodding, then an idea came to her mind, "What about that thing at the ruins?"

"I looked, but I don't see anything about a Pokemon called, Giygogagohgwooh." Roman said before sighing, "But I highly doubt that was its name." He said before looking at the small stack of books. "The rest is just a lot of basic information about travel and other garbage in these." Roman then looked out at the sky, "However, this world seems big than Remnant, there are a lot more than just four kingdoms and barren land between then."

Ruby looked out the window as well, "It means it's going to take a lot longer to find the others." She said before clenching her fists, "But we'll find them." Suddenly, a chime was heard over the intercom, "I wonder if that means Eevee is all better." Ruby said as she stood up, then walked towards the counter. Roman did not follow, just looking out at the sky in sorrow.

Ruby made it back to the counter, discovering the foxlike Pokemon waiting, "Eevee!" it said before jumping into the red hooded girl's arms.

"Hey, it's good to see you too," Ruby said in joy as she held the Pokemon. She then looked over to Nurse Joy, "Thank you very much for healing her."

"No problem," Nurse Joy said before nodding, "We hope to see you again." She then looked to her right, "Oh, and your Serperior is all healed as well." The nurse said as she handed a Pokeball to another person who was just walking up.

Ruby turned to see the person; a young lady only slightly older than the red hooded girl. She wore a white and pink visor. Her brown hair was tied into two side buns, but still had locks that ran down her sides. Her white shirt had light blue sleeves and the same spherical icon on the chest. She had a yellow skirt, black leggings, and simple sneakers, "Thank you," She said before turning to Ruby, "Oh, hello there." Her eyes then light up as she looked at the foxlike Pokemon, "Awe, it's so cute!" She said as she got a few inches away from Eevee's face, "What a pretty Eevee!"

"Uh," Ruby spoke.

"Oh, sorry." The enthusiastic girl said before returning to a normal stance, her eyes back to normal, "I should introduce myself first, I'm Rosa."

"It's okay, I'm Ruby." The red hooded girl said with a slight giggle, "Actually, my last name is Rose. Pretty funny, right?"

"Last name?" Rosa said as Ruby started to sweat.

In the distance, Roman looked over to see Ruby's conversation, causing him to groan, "Red, are you kidding me," He spoke before getting up and walking over.

"Uh, I mean-" Ruby was saying until she felt Roman right hand push down on her head.

"Sorry about that, she has a bad habit of sticking her nose where it doesn't belong." Roman spoke as Ruby flailed a bit, "We were just leaving now."

"She wasn't bothering me at." Rosa responded, turning back to Ruby, "I was about to ask if she was in the Pokemon World League."

"The what!?" Ruby said as she pushed away Roman's arm, "Is that something super popular?"

"Well, yeah!" Rosa said with a smile, "It's the biggest league ever conducted for new trainers. With it, there are talks about the event being streamed over the whole world."

"Really!?" Ruby said before grinning, "How do I join?"

"Red," Roman said through his teeth, "We don't have time for this."

"Hey, rather than looking all over the world for the others," Ruby responded, "Why don't we make it easy for them to find us." She said with him going silent, "I join this league, it shows up on television, they see it and rush over to the location."

"…I hate that you have a point." Roman said before looking back to Rosa in his normal tone, "Tell us more about this league."

"Well, it's for new trainers to capture a lot of Pokemon." Rosa clarified.

"Trainers?" Ruby commented, "Are they like huntresses?" She said before Roman slightly elbowed her in the side, causing her eyes to widen.

"Uh, I don't know, but you get to do a lot of traveling that is funded by the league." Rosa said with a smile forming, "You only have to collect four badges to be eligible for the league tournament. The winner gets a shiny trophy and battle against any champion of their choosing."

"Cool," Ruby said, still trying to process it, "How do I take part in this?"

Rosa smirked, holder her chin with her hand with the space between right index finger and thumb, "Well, you need an experienced veteran to endorse your involvement." She said before putting her hands on her hips, "Lucky, I am such an experienced veteran."

"Aren't you like sixteen?" Roman responded with eyes half-open.

"So, most people start their adventures at age ten." Rosa responded, causing Roman's eyes to widen, "And I'm not recommended you, Old Man."

"Old Man!" Roman said as his rage boiled, but Ruby moved to stand between him and Rosa.

"I would still like to join," Ruby spoke up.

"Eev!" Eevee added on.

"Awe!" Rosa said as her eyes lit up again, then looked to Ruby with a confident smile, "Okay, I can get you in." She said before holding her chin like before, "Now, how new are you to all of this?"

"Uh, very new." Ruby answered, looking down at Eevee, "I don't even have a ball for her."

"I can give you a few of mine." Rosa responded, "Do you have a Pokedex?"

"No, is that some type of device?" Ruby said while reaching into her pocket, pulling out her scroll, "And this doesn't work at all now." She said under breath before looking to Rosa, "As I said, we're very new to things here. Can you help us out?"

"Of course!" Rosa said before turning around, "Follow me to the training field for a Special Rosa Lesson!" She said while marching. Ruby smiled as she followed. Roman followed as well but pinched the bridge of his nose with a groan.

A few minutes later.

Ruby and Rosa sat at a bench, with the red hooded girl holding at half red half white marble-sized device. She pressed the button at the center and was slightly shocked at the smooth expansion of the sphere. In front of her, Eevee waited patiently with a smile, "So, I just throw it at her?" Ruby asked the enthusiastic trainer, who nodded with a smile. The red hooded girl looked back to the foxlike Pokemon, "Okay, here goes." She said before tossing the ball, which softly bounced on Eevee's head. Ruby gasped as the Pokeball halfway opened, showing out a red beam the encompassed Eevee, transforming her into the same energy. After the energy regathered in the ball, it closed and fell on the ground. After three shakes and the button blinking, a small click was heard.

"Amazing!" Rosa cheered, "You caught an Eevee!" She said as Ruby picked up the ball, "Now, this one was easy, but I imagine that was because Eevee liked you so much."

"I guess," Ruby said as she pressed the button again, causing the Pokeball to open. With a white wave of energy, Eevee reformed and stretched out her body, "I've only known her for barely an hour, but we seem to get along."

"Eev!" Eevee cheered as it ran circles in joy.

"Well, I might know why." Rosa said as she took out a red device, reminding Ruby of her scroll, "With my Pokedex, I can tell a lot about this little fella." She said with Ruby leaning in, "And wow! This must have been an Eevee someone was breeding. It has it's hidden ability, Anticipation." She said as Ruby remembered the fight against the Grimm-like Pokemon, "But its nature is Brave, so the trainer probably released it into the wild where it found you."

"Why would someone do that!?" Ruby said in slight anger, turning back to her Pokemon.

"Well, breeders often need a nature that suits a Pokémon's natural skills." Rosa commented, "Brave isn't bad for an Eevee, but is not the best for what you might want to evolve her into."

"Evolve?" Ruby asked.

"Oh, let's wait on that topic." Rosa responded as she looked at the Pokedex, "It looks like your Eevee knows Tackle, Growl, and Swift. So, you're missing the fourth move." She said before putting her hand on her chin, "I know, you could teach her Quick Attack. That will give you some priority, even though that is also a Normal-type move!"

"Uh," Ruby responded.

"Oops, too much information at once." Rosa said before giggling, "Sorry." She said before seeing Eevee jumping with joy, "Well, looks like she wants to learn the move."

"You said it was called quick attack, right?" Ruby inquired.

"Yes, it's like a weaker tackle, but faster." Rosa said as Ruby stood up, "What are you going to do?"

"I think I have an idea." Ruby said before she looked down at Eevee, "I'm going to run as fast as I can, and you do your best to keep up, okay?"

"Eev!" Eevee responded with a nod.

"Cool." Ruby said before examining the perimeter of the rectangular battlefield, "On your mark, get set, go!" the red hooded girl said before running as fast as she could. Eevee rushed behind as the two began doing laps.

Rosa watched as had her hand in her chin, "Wow, she is pretty fast." She said before turning to see Roman standing next to a tree, his arms crossed. She decided to get up and walk over to the orange-haired criminal, "So, I might be able to recommend both of you for this league if you want." She said before smirking, "But you have to apologize first."

"Forget it, I have nothing to apologize for." Roman responded, "You two can play this silly little game."

"And what about you?" Rosa said as she but her hand on her chin, "Why are you hanging around this girl? Are you her father?"

"No! how old do you think I am!?" Roman shouted back, then looked over to see Ruby still sprinting, "She and I are just in the same situation right now, that's it." He then looked back to Rosa, "So, I don't need to be in that league if she is already in. And I don't need to catch any of these Po-"

Suddenly, a blackbird with a yellow beck and hat-shaped head divebombed Roman, "Murkrow!" it cried before pecking his head.

"OUCH!" Roman shouted before trying to bat away the bird, "What was that!?"

"Oh, a Murkrow, look at that," Rosa said as the bird pecked at Roman's head again. She looked away towards the setting sun, "I guess this is around the time they start coming out."

"OUCH!" Roman said as he was continuously pecked, "Why is it attacking me!?"

"You know the old saying, 'Get home before the Murkrow fly' right?" Rosa asked.

"No, I don't," Roman said before getting pecked again, causing him to snarl as he swung his arms. The blackbird dodged, then flew up to a tree branch.

"Murkrow Murkrow!" The blackbird Pokemon cried as its pointed with one wing, while the other was on its belly.

"Is it mocking me!?" Roman said before looking on the ground for something but could not find it. "Hey, find me a rock to chuck at that thing."

"…Sure," Rosa said with a smirk, placing something in Roman's left hand, "Here."

"Murkrow Mur-!" the blackbird Pokemon said before something smashing right between his eyes. Roman grinned at the accuracy of his throw, but his eyes widened as now saw what he threw. The Pokeball opened and ensnared the Murkrow inside. The ball fell to the ground, shook three times, then clicked.

"Wow, you caught it first try!" Rosa said with her hand on her chin, "That's super lucky, Murkrow's have a very hard catch rate."

Roman glared back at Rosa, "You tricked me."

"Deal with it," Rosa said with a smirk as she turned around, "Pick him up and you can now learn alongside Ruby." She spoke with Roman reluctantly doing so.

After multiple laps around the battlefield, Ruby was out of breath, but slightly smile, "Yep, I don't have it to the same level of my semblance, but I can still run." She said before seeing Eevee, who was still full of energy as she ran in circles. Suddenly, Eevee's speed shot up as a white trail of light flashed behind her, dashing around the field in seconds.

"Wow, she learned that move really quick." Rosa commented, "I guess it is in the name." She said before looking to Ruby and Roman, "Now, since both of you have a Pokemon, let's see how you fare in battle."

"A battle with our Pokemon?" Ruby asked, "But, is that okay? They could get hurt?"

"Fine by me," Roman said under his breath, his head still throbbing from the pecks.

"It's okay, so long as you know the Pokémon's limit in battle." Rosa responded, "Battling helps you form a bond with your partner Pokemon." She then looked over to the Pokemon Center. "Also, we are within walking distance to a getting healed up to full."

"I guess," Ruby said before looking down at Eevee, "Is this okay with you?"

"Eevee!" the foxlike Pokemon spoke with a nod.

"Okay," Ruby said before looking to Roman, "It may be Eevee fighting, but there is no way we will lose to you."

"You really are just a brat," Roman responded before looking to Rosa, "What does this bird know?"

"Hm," Rosa said as she had her Pokedex scan the Murkrow, "It looks like: Peck, Pursuit, Haze, and Night Shade." She said before putting away the Pokedex, "That last one is not a bad move, but it-" she then noticed Roman walking away, "Hey, I was talking!"

"And I was done listening." Roman said as he got to the left side of the arena, griping the Pokeball, "Let's just get this over with, Red."

Ruby nodded, then walked over to the other end of the battlefield, "Okay, let's go Eevee!"

"Eev!" Eevee cried as it readied for battle.

"Alright, Murkrow," Roman said to the ball, then throw it, "You better listen to me!"

The ball opened with the blackbird Pokemon emerging, "Murkrow!" he squawked before flying back and landing on Roman's hat, "Mur!"

"…" Roman said as his rage boiled, all while Ruby and Rosa tried to hide their giggling, "…I hate you all." He then batted the blackbird off his bowler hat, "Let's just start, use Night Shade on Eevee!"

"Murkrow!" Responded before glaring at the foxlike Pokemon. Suddenly, his red eyes glowed black before black lasers shot out. Roman watched in amazement as the zigzagging beams collided with Eevee. However, the attack did not affect his opponent.

"Sorry, but like I was trying to say." Rosa spoke from the sidelines, "That move is a ghost type attack, which does not affect normal types like Eevee."

Roman gritted his teeth as Ruby focused her gaze, "Alright Eevee, our turn," The red hooded girl declared, "Let's start off running with your new move, Quick Attack!" She said as the foxlike Pokemon shot forward with a bolt of speed, then jumped in the air towards the blackbird Pokemon.

However, Ruby gasped as Murkrow evaded the hit, "Heh, don't think it will be that easy." Roman responded, "Use Pursuit!"

"Murkrow!" The blackbird Pokemon cried before divebombing Eevee, his body showed in a dark aura. His body collided with the back of the foxlike Pokémon's head, causing Eevee to crash into the ground. "Mur!" Murkrow taunted as he circled above.

"Eevee," Ruby called out as her Pokemon slowly got up, "Use Swift."

"Eev!" Eevee said before firing stars out of her mouth.

"Dodge that too," Roman said with a grin as Murkrow evaded the stars. However, he gasped they redirected towards the blackbird Pokemon, "Look out!" He warned, but it was too late.

"Mur-" Murkrow said before getting bombarded by more stars. A plume of black smoke appeared as Roman's Pokemon started to descend.

"Swift is a move that always hits," Rosa commented, "No dodging that one."

"Tsk," Roman said before seeing Murkrow's eyes flinch, "Go in for Peck, now!"

"Murkrow!" the blackbird Pokemon said before recovering in midair, then flew toward Eevee.

"Eev!?" The foxlike Pokemon gasped before being bombarded by the bird's beck. Each peck pushed her back.

"Eevee!" Ruby said in a panic, wanting to step forwards.

"Ruby, this is a fight between Pokemon." Rosa commented, "You have to give her an order."

Ruby gasped before looking back to the battle, "Use Growl!"

"Eev!" Eevee responded before jumping back evading a peck, "Eevee!" she then let out a small roar that intimidated the blackbird slightly.

"Awesome, now use Tackle!" Ruby said before her Pokemon charged forward.

"Murkrow, use Haze!" Roman responded, causing the blackbird to exhale a frozen mist. Eevee tackled through the mist, but missed her target, "Now Pursuit." Roman ordered before Eevee could react, taking about strike the back to the head.

"Hang in there," Ruby said as her Pokemon tried to push itself up, "Use Swift!"

"Eev!" The foxlike Pokemon said before shooting stars out of her mouth again, which soon gave chase to the blackbird.

"Not falling for that again," Roman said with a grin, "Use Night Shade on the Swift."

"Mur!" Murkrow said before shooting the dark eye lasers towards the stars, creating a midair explosion. When the smoke cleared, the blackbird was unharmed.

"Huh," Rosa said with her hand on her chin, "I guess there is nothing that says normal moves are unaffected by ghost type attacks." she then looked over to see Ruby sweating.

Ruby gritted her teeth, "Eevee, try Swift again." She said with her Pokemon unleashing another star barrage.

Roman smirked as he did not have his Pokemon repeat the same action, "Murkrow, dive straight for Eevee." He said with Ruby gasping. The blackbird Pokemon gave chase as the stars followed close behind.

"Eevee, don't let him hit you with it," Ruby called out, "Push him right into the Swift with Quick Attack!"

"Eev!" Eevee shouted before turning towards Murkrow, bolting forwards at high speed.

However, Roman sneered, "Use Haze." He said as the blackbird Pokemon emanated the icy mist again. Eevee closed her eyes as she ran through the smoke, but in reopening them, saw the Swift crash into her body.

"Eevee!" Ruby called after the mid-air explosion. The foxlike Pokemon fell out of the smoke and landed in the middle of the arena, her eyes swirling.

"Looks like Eevee fainted." Rosa commented, the sighed, "As much as I hate to admit it, Roman wins."

"Haha, I beat you. I finally beat you!" Roman taunted with a smirk on his face. However, that smirk soon faded as Murkrow landed back on his hat.

"Murkrow," The blackbird Pokemon cried as it raised its head high, "Mur!" He said before evading Roman's wild flails to bat him off.

"Eevee!" Ruby ran to check on her Pokemon, picking her up.

"…Eev," Eevee responded in a weak cry, her eyes returning to normal. However, the foxlike creature still had a slight smile on her face. Ruby smiled back as she held her Pokemon sighted.

Rosa then walked over, "You two didn't do so bad for your first battle together." She said with a smile towards the foxlike Pokemon as well, "Let's get her healed up and call it a day. They should have some spare rooms at this Pokemon Center." Ruby nodded as the two walked back to the entrance of the building.

Roman watched the two leave before sighing, then looked back at the blackbird Pokemon, "How much stamina do you have left?"

"Mur!" Murkrow boasted.

"Good," Roman responded, "I want you to try something."

A few hours later.

Night had fallen over the area as Roman waited in the middle of the arena. He then heard the flapping of his Pokémon's wings, seeing Murkrow land on the ground in front of him, "Did you see her, a girl with pink and brown hair?"

"Mur…" Murkrow cried with the shaking of its head, "Murkrow." The blackbird Pokemon then pecked at the ground, dropping something that was in its beak.

Roman knelt to pick it up, discovering a small ball of gold, "Heh, you found another one." He said before putting the nugget into his pocket, which rubbed against the other bits of gold, "Well, you helped cover a lot of our expenses for a while." He said with a half-smile forming, "And thanks to you, I can say I beat Red in one form of battle."

"Murkrow!" Murkrow said with the flap of his wings.

"Heh, okay," Roman said as he stood up, "Let's call it a night." He said before turning around. However, Murkrow flew up to perch himself on the bowler hat. Roman was about to swat him off, but then stopped himself, "You know, you can stay up there… this time." He said before walking back to the Pokemon Center.

Meanwhile.

In their room, Ruby and Rosa were about to call it a night. The enthusiastic trainer turned off the lights before walking over to the red hooded girl, who had a sleeping Eevee at her side, "Don't feel so bad about taking a loss, it happens to all of us."

"I know, it just stings a bit." Ruby responded as she petted Eevee, "She went from beating a bulky monster to losing to a tiny bird…. All because of me."

"Wild battles are different from trainer battles." Rosa commented with a smile, "Eevee can only go so far on her own, she needs you to take her to greatness." She said with Ruby smiling back, "And I'll help you two as much as I can." She said before looking at Ruby's nightwear, "But next, we need to buy you some new clothes, because you can't keep borrowing my pajamas. You're lucky we're the same size."

"Sorry," Ruby said with a giggle, then the sincere smile returned, "And thank you so much for helping us out."

"No problem," Rosa said with a smile and wink, then knelt to get in her bottom bunk, "Well, good night."

"Good night," Ruby said in response as she laid on the top bunk. However, the smile turned into sorrow as she looked to her left, seeing an empty bunk bed. While these were made logically, they reminded her of those back in her old world, and her friends that used to spare that dorm room with. A tear began to fall down her face, but she then noticed something. A light shining down on her from the window. Her eyes widened in awe, "The moon, it's not broken!?" She said to herself, "It's so full and …beautiful." She said as the smile returned to her face, "Everyone, I hope you can see this moon from where you're at too." Ruby said before yawning, her eyelids getting heavy. She then closed her eyes while laying her head on the pillow, finally resting in this new world.

AN: There you go, Ruby officially has Eevee now. As well, Roman has the his Murkrow. I think both fit their trainers quite well. Joining them as the third party member, we have Rosa. I will say, I did not care much about her in Black2/White2, but Masters did give her a lot more personality. She basically helps these two not spend chapters wandering around and lets me write some fun dialogue between the trio of Rs. We end with a Ruby verse Roman battle, with the orange haired criminal pulling out the win for once. When it comes to these battles, I like to use a bit of the anime creativity and flare, but will still limit myself to the game rules for the most part. Some things may be slightly off, but it is so I can make things a bit more epic for the storytelling. It will try to keep things consistent, but I want to have fun with this, and I hope you do as well. Now, next two chapters will switch off to another unlikely duo realizing the situation they are stuck together in. In that, I hope to give more clarity on this league that our remnants will be battling in. That is all for now, thanks for reading, and hope to see you in the next chapter.
