A/N: This is a prediction for what season four could be within the universe of my take on season 3. If you haven't read it, I'll give you a quick recap of what happened. A lot of season three stayed the same, but it was Mike who got flayed and died instead of Billie. I might do another version of this fic when the actual season four drops, but I got a few ideas and decided to write this.
Eleven was laying in a black void. Memories of the summer from the year before were playing in her mind, from when she and Mike were making out in her bedroom to when she cradled his dead body. She also remembered hugging her father for the last time and attending his funeral days after Mike's funeral.
She was then teleported to the battle of Starcourt Mall. The flayed Mike was dragging her towards the mind flair. They made eye contact for a moment, and Mike seemed to go back to his normal self. Eleven sobbed as she watched Mike die again.
Eleven was shaken awake by her adopted brother, Will. "We have to get ready," Will said. "The plane is going to leave in about two hours."
Eleven climbed out of bed. The Byers family was going back to Hawkins for the summer so Eleven, Jonathan, and Will can see their friends. Eleven put her teddy bear, that Hopper gave to her before he died, into her suitcase. Eleven's powers never came back, but she learned to live without them.
She put on the outfit she had laid out for herself the previous night. It was a yellow cardigan with a white tank top, jeans, and cowgirl boots. She brushed her teeth and then put her toothbrush into her suitcase. She brushed out her hair and walked to the living room with her suitcase. "Are you guys ready?" Joyce asked. Eleven, Will, and Jonathan nodded in unison. "Perfect. Now let's go to the car."
They arrived in Hawkins early in the afternoon. Steve, Robyn, Nancy, Dustin, Lucas, and Max were waiting for them. They hugged each other. "I'm so happy to see you," Max said, as she pulled away from the hug she was sharing with Eleven. "How is your new school?"
"It's ok," Eleven said. "I heard the high school has a fashion club so I'll probably sign up for that next year."
Max nods. "Have your powers come back yet?" Max whispered.
"No," Eleven sighed.
"Maybe they will eventually," Max whispered. "Let's not give up hope just yet. It hasn't even been a year yet."
"I can only hope," Eleven sighed. The two friends hadn't seen each other since Christmas break. They would occasionally call each other, but they were both very busy with their own lives. They then left the airport as Lucas raved about the plans the summer plans he had made for the group.
That night, Eleven was spending the night at Max's house. She was having the same dream she had the previous night, which she had often, but she didn't go to the scene at Starcourt Mall this time. She went to a snowy mountain in Russia, where a prison camp was.
Eleven walked over to a line of prisoners. At the front of the line, she spotted her father, but his head was shaved. Everything felt too real. She knew this wasn't a figment of her imagination, but something that was actually happening. Hopper didn't seem to see her so she figured she was probably using the upside-down to see this.
The ground then started to shake. Eleven fell onto her bottom as an earthquake happened. "Code 407," a guard yelled. "Everyone take over!"
Mac was woken up by the commotion. She saw Eleven was still asleep, but she seemed to be distressed. The wall behind Eleven started to crack. "El, wake up," Max yelled, shaking her. After a minute, Eleven woke up, breathing heavily. There were now large cracks on all of the walls in Max's bedroom. "I think your powers came back."
"They did," Eleven stated. "But that's not what I'm worried about."
"What's wrong?" Max asked.
"Hopper is alive," Eleven sighed. "But he is in great danger."
