I do not own these characters. I am just having fun with them.

A/N: In this story, I am going off of the events of Adrift occurring in late May, not late September as the two parts aired some months apart. In addition, Harm did not take Skates CAP during Odd Man Out, everything else in JAG stands. NCIS events are NOT followed as I have not watched it and do not like what I have heard about the JAG characters coming back on it.

Rated M for future chapters, HOWEVER, I will let you know when a specific chapter is M rated and all M rated chapters can be skipped without missing key story points.

Chapter 1

Norfolk Naval Shipyard, February 3, 2017, 3:50pm Eastern

Captain Harmon Rabb turned the key shutting off the engine to his vehicle. He reached over to the passenger seat and grabbed his captain's hat. He placed it on his head as he exited his vehicle. The cool February air was refreshing to him. After all, one of the reasons he loved flying Sarah, his Stearman, was to feel the wind in his face. Harm closed the door to his car, locked it, and began following the crowd of people.

Off in the distance, he could see it - the U.S.S. Seahawk. The carrier held many memories for Harm, good and bad. He lost his first RIO and almost lost his own life a few times. However, it is also the place where he successfully night-landed an F-14 with an injured CAG Thomas Boone. He also held several investigations on the ship and first met Skates, another RIO of his.

Harm couldn't help but feel a little saddened by the situation. He was here to attend the decommissioning ceremony. Anyone who served on the ship was welcomed to attend. Harm could've brought Mac with him, but decided against it. She had other plans, which she said she could cancel, but Harm thought it would be a more personal experience for him alone. After all, Mac was never fully supportive of his aviation career - telling him he could never return and that life was a fantasy for him. Regardless, he had still given that life a second chance when his eye condition was corrected. Unfortunately, Harm came to the realization that he was too old and did not have the needed experiences under his belt to compete with the younger pilots. He also loved his career as a JAG.

Harm's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a teenager's voice.

"Mom, I don't understand why you dragged me along here. Actually, I don't understand why you even bothered to come. You gave this up, what, 15 years ago?"

The boy's mother responded to him, but Harm was unable to hear her response as they were several yards ahead of him and she had whispered her response. Harm guessed that the boy's mother was embarrassed by her son's remark and wanted him quieted quickly and silently.

Harm could partly understand the boy's frustrations, having sort-of raised a teenager. Harm had gained full custody of Mattie Grace after she turned 17, but Harm had been involved in her life since she was 14. He knew that Mattie might find a ceremony like this one boring when she was the age of the boy up there with his mother. Now, Harm thought Mattie might be interested, but possibly not. After her accident, it was clear to both her and Harm that she would never be able to enlist in the Navy. After many years of therapy, Mattie regained almost full control of her body, but she was still unable to pass the Navy physical. Harm, however, made sure she didn't get discouraged. They worked together to find something Mattie could do that she would love. Now, she is an aerospace engineer married to a naval aviator, Andre Biggs. Harm approved of Andre and met him while Mattie was still in high school. He knew right from the first meeting that the boy was destined for the Navy. At first, Andre and Mattie had a strict friendship-only relationship, however, that changed after Mattie's accident. Andre visited Mattie frequently and was there for her like no other friend was.

"Commander Rabb!" Harm turned around to see a familiar woman approaching him. "Oh, my apologies, Captain Rabb. I guess I shouldn't be surprised at your promotion. Congratulations."

"Thank you, Lieutenant Commander Jorgenson. My congratulations to you on your promotion, as well," Harm replied.

At the time Harm flew with her, then Lieutenant Jorgenson was the best RIO on the Seahawk. She flew with Harm a few times, but most notably when they deterred a dirty nuke from attacking Navy vessels. Harm enjoyed their flights together, but never got the chance to really get to know her like he did his first RIO and Skates, since he didn't serve on the carrier or spend an extended period of time aboard.

"How have you been, sir?" LCDR Jorgenson asked.

"I have been fine, thank you. Still at JAG. How about yourself?" Harm asked.

"Things have really changed for me, sir, but for the better. When the Navy got rid of the F-14, I decided to receive training to become an F-18 pilot. I definitely miss being a RIO at times, but I love being at the controls."

"That is excellent. Good for you, ma'am," Harm replied. "Are you here with anyone?" Harm asked.

"No, sir. Why do you ask?" LCDR Jorgenson asked, looking puzzled.

"Well, I am here by myself, too, but wouldn't mind having a familiar face to sit next to during the ceremony. What do you say?"

"Sounds great, sir!" LCDR Jorgenson replied with a smile on her face.

The pair made their way through the shipyard and over to the U.S.S. Seahawk. Once there, they spotted two empty seats near the center of the sitting area. The pair excused themselves through the rows of seats to take theirs at the two empty ones. As Harm was approaching the seats, he noticed that the boy and his mother were sitting right beside the two empty seats Harm and LCDR Jorgenson were heading towards.

Once there, Harm asked, "Are these seats taken, ma'am?"

"No, they're not," she began to say while turning to look at Harm. "Harm! It's great to see you again!"
