"Alas, I wish this plan never existed and I never had to enforce it, but it's for everyone's good. Good luck on your journey, Andrew."

Andrew Dam

Ding! Ding! Ding! DINGGGGGGG!

"OK OK, I'll wake up, ok? Now…"

Thump! Clang!

"Oops, maybe I knocked it a little too hard…" mumbles a half-awake Andrew, still rubbing his eyes. He looked on the ground and found his digital alarm thankfully still in one piece, but it had some dents now.

"Andrew, Come down already! Your breakfast is ready! Did I hear a crashing sound though?"

"Ok, I'm coming! Just wait, please?"

Andrew quickly went to brush his teeth, wash his face, and dressed up, then walked quietly downstairs.

"Andrew, do you remember what day it is?"

"Uh, the day I get to eat a buffet?" I guessed playfully.

"No, it's the day that your best friend Aidan is going to come to Aindale to go on an adventure with you! How could you forget?"

I should probably explain. The person talking to me right now was my father, Gary Dam. He's very well known for his research on the legendary pokemon in our region. The region we live in is named Ornn. I seriously don't know where the name came from, but I think it's fairly decent. My friend Aidan is coming today since we have planned to get our very first pokemon and go on an adventure together.

"Oh yes. Right, when is he coming again?"

"I think he's coming pretty soon," answered Gary.

Ding-dong! The doorbell resonated through the room. The sound of the door being pushed open followed next.

"Sup, Andrew! Hello Mr. Dam!" Aidan said as he stepped in through the door.

"Bye, dad!" I joyfully chirp as soon as I spot my best friend Aidan. I pushed the door open and walked out with him, discussing which pokemon we will pick as our starter.

After a short walk, we reached our destination‒ Professor Benjamin's lab.

"Hello, kids!" Professor Benjamin greeted enthusiastically. "Ready to pick your very first Pokemon?"

"Of course, dude!" Aidan looked like he going to pass out due to the excitement.

"Well, this will be a difficult decision, to only pick one out of all the 24 starters. Hm…." I murmur anxiously.

I pondered for a while before coming to a conclusion. "Oh well, I guess I have my pick! I'm going to choose Scorbunny!"

"Oh, then I can get one of my favourite starters‒ Treecko!" Aidan followed next, his entire visage lit up with excitement.

"Alright kids, here you go!" Professor Benjamin handed them the pokemon they wanted.

"Ok, then I'm going to name my cute Scorbunny 'Amber'!" I exclaimed.

"Hm, I remember this scorbunny is a special one. It is not shiny, but it has the secret ability 'libero', which changes its type to whichever type the move you are using is. It is also a female so nice name!" Professor Benjamin explained

"Ha, my Briar is way cooler tho!" Aidan argued, looking at Treecko.

"You named your Treecko 'Briar'? A nice name I guess."I pointed out.

"I don't think either is cooler, they are both very rare and strong pokemon," explained Professor Benjamin. "Oh yes! I remember!" He exclaimed, "that Treecko has 'Unburden' too! It Boosts the speed stat if its held item is used or lost, you two are both very lucky dudes!" "Also, here are some potions, revives and Pokeballs in case you need them!"

"Yes! Thank you so much, Professor!" we both chanted at the same time.

"Remember to bring your Rotom phones with you at all times!" Professor Benjamin yelled to remind us as we cheerfully strode away from the laboratory.

We stopped by the park nearby. On the sign, the following words are engraved‒ "Levengrove park". I scanned the park vaguely, there was tall grass, a battle court, a trail and some benches.

"How about we have our very first battle here at the park?" Aidan suggested.

"Sure thing!" I told Aidan, "I hope you know Briar's moveset though." I added with a mocking tone.

"Of course I know! Professor Benjamin told us, remember?" Aidan retorted.

"Ok then, but we still need someone to referee the match though," I noted.

"How about that guy over there who looks quite friendly?" Aidan suggested, "Hello there! Can you be the referee for our match?"

"Sure thing, since I have time. Are you guys going on an adventure together?" the friendly guy asked, "my name is William by the way."

"Yes, we are going on an adventure. Shall we start?" I asked politely.

"Yes please, send out your pokemon!" He yelled into the humongous field we decided upon for the battle.

"Let's go, Briar!" Aidan yelled into the air as he threw his Pokeball towards the center of the court.

"Let's win this, Amber!" I followed suit as I tossed Amber's Pokeball at the center too.

"The battle starts… Now!" William shouted.

"Briar, use tackle!" Aidan commanded. Briar immediately leapt forward to attack his opponent.

"Amber! Are you ready?"

Amber glanced back at me and nodded, more determined than ever.

"Amber! Use ember!"

Amber instantly dashed in front of Briar. Then, she swiftly circled around Briar and used ember on him.

"Nice! You know the type advantages already…" Aidan trailed off and stared dumbfoundedly as Briar stumbled, struggling to stand on his kneecaps... but fainted instead and fell to the ground.

"Treecko is unable to battle! Trainer Andrew wins!" William states, "Nice match both of you!"

"Ok, sure," Aidan said frustratedly, frowning.

"Come on, don't be a sore loser, if you train enough, you might even be able to beat me even without type advantage!" I comforted him, knowing that it must've felt bad to lose our first battle together.

"Fine then," Aidan replied, not looking convinced.

"That was a nice match!" William said as he scurries towards us, "that is a nice match for two beginners, if you want to contact me, here's my phone number." He typed his phone number on each of our phones.

"Oh, ok thanks!" We both spoke at the same time.

Right after that, I got a call from Professor Benjamin

"Hello? Andrew, I have bad news to tell you," he said the moment I clicked the pick-up button.

"Your father has been kidnapped."

Authors note:

Thanks to Txrquoise for being my beta-reader!

This is my very first fanfic so let me ask you: how was it? :D I have spent a lot of time thinking about it. But, it still might not be perfect. I welcome all your reviews and your suggestions (and mistakes)!

I know I haven't perfected the battle scene so that is why it was so short, but I will try to make it better for next time! Thank you so much for your support.
