the prologue of my first NatsuXErza fic enjoy

It was a regular day in Magnolia the war with Alvarez is over everyone was happy right?

Well, for one Erza scarlet, not so much.

She just got word Jellal, and the others were pardons by the queen.

She was happy...at first that all changed when she received a letter from him.

Delivered by nonother then fairy tail's fire dragon slayer.

It was a Bouquet of red roses with a sealed letter on top.

She takes them in hand before glancing toward Natsu to see a smile.

"Jellal wanted me to give these to you!" pink dusted her cheeks before opening the letter.

The letter explained how Jellal loves her, but he has to reject her because of the pain he caused her.

But it was how every time he sees her, the pained memories return.

But one thing stuck out shocking to the core.

Erza, no amount of magic power or armor can protect your heart,

but maybe a dragon can!

Sincerely Jellal

Erza blush grew in size before glancing at Natsu, who had a blank expression as he watches the sunset.

"You ok, Erza?"

"I'm fine," she said as a stray tear went down her cheeks.

"Erza, why are you crying!" he said with a stern expression.

"Its nothing Natsu."

"I know you well enough. It's NEVER nothing!"

With a sigh, "Jellal rejected my feeling for him saying every time he looks at me, the pained memories of the tower come back to him." she said in a solum tone.

What she wasn't expecting was Natsu bring her into a hug. This caused more tears to form.

"Why, why does he have to do this!" her tear intensified.

"I know you don't want to believe this, but its guy thing, if the experience is strong enough, we can never let it go," he said in a hushed tone into her ear.

After a few moments, Erza manages to gain control of her emotions "Thank Natsu I needed that"

"No problem, Erza!" he chirped before heading off to the guild "you coming?"

"No I'm heading home, I need time to process this"

"Ok, if something comes up, just remember al always be there for you," he gave her a toothy grin.

She giggled at this before waving him off.

With Jellal

Jellal was watching the whole scene not too far away with a familiar head of blonde hair.

"Jellal, are you sure you want to go through with this?"

"Yes, Lucy, I really do what happened at the tower is my burden to bear. I refuse to share that with Erza."

"If you say so."

"I figure you's be a little mad about Erza possibly taking Natsu away?"

"What does everyone think I would hook up with Natsu!"

"Well…."

"Besides, it wouldn't work out."

"How so?"

"We tried that, but it didn't last long, we agreed we are better off as friends," she said with a smile.

Jellal had to take a double-take to make sure his mind wasn't playing tricks on him.

"You and Natsu actually dated?"

"Yes, shortly after the new year following the war. We kept it a secret to see if it would work out, it didn't obviously. You better keep this a secret!" Lucy chastised.

"No complaint from me, but did anyone else know?"

"No, not even Happy knew."

"Well, I'm going to take my leave now."

"See you later, Jellal tell the other fairy tail give them their regards!" with those words, they went there separate ways.

With Erza

Erza had just entered her room, lying under the covers of her bed as she wrestled with these feelings for Natsu.

She is a mess having no idea how to proceed.

She loves Natsu, no doubt about it, but the question is to what extent.

He's one of her closest friends, especially after everything they been through.

No one in the guild knew that there were times where Erza was struggling with her past.

Natsu was there for her, most would assume it was the tower that started this.

But they were wrong.

This all started on the anniversary of when she escaped the tower several month after Natsu joined the guild

Flashback start

Year X778

Erza is sitting on her bed as a tear streamed down his cheeks.

She looked so fragile in the light of the moon shining through her window.

Then she heard some ruckus outside, wiping the tears away before checking it out.

She never got the chance as the window suddenly opened, revealing the pink-haired dragon slayer with a massive grin.

She was slightly shocked, considering this is something that's right up his ally in the relatively short amount of time she knew him.

"Natsu, what are you doing here?"

"You weren't at the guild today, and gramps wouldn't tell me why."

"I told him I want to be alone today."

"Sorry, not happening."

"I SAID, LEAVE ME ALONE!"

"No"

"...why?"

"Because I made a promise"

"What was this promise you made?"

"After Igneel left, I never felt so alone then I met gramps, and I made a promise to never leave someone alone if I can help it!" he said with a grin.

Erza was speechless at this only for Natsu to jump, taking his spot right beside her.

Flashback end

Every year on the day, Natsu plus Happy would stay with her the entire day, so she wasn't alone.

She would never admit to anyone, but she was eternally grateful he did as it helped dull the pain of that day.

Then the tower happened.

Saying she fell in love with him because he saved her was false by every sense of the word.

She scoffs at the notion of it, and after talking to him about it, he shared the sentiment.

However, she would be lying if she said she didn't see him in a different light.

That day the boy she knew as Natsu turned in the Man that gives her strength when hers fails.

That helped her the most she was fighting off against Azuma.

Several hours later

She laid back on her bed, staring at the seeling before letting out a sigh "It looks like I'll have to talk to Mira about this," she yawns before going to bed.

The Next day

When Erza finally woke, it was the late morning she took a shower before getting dressed.

Once she made it inside, she was relieved to see Natsu wasn't there; otherwise, this could get awkward really fast.

Then she spotted Mira at the bar before racing over. "Mira, I need to talk to you in private," she said in a hushed tone.

Mira was slightly shocked, this never happens.

She usually the one instigating these conversations.

"Ok" she led them to the back room away from prying eyes. "What is it, Erza?"

Erza requiped the letter for her to read.

She read it several times, making sure her mind wasn't playing a trick on her.

When her gaze met Erza's, she knew immediately she was conflicted about this.

"Give me a minute," she left, leaving Erza all by herself.

She usually is with Mira to keep her mouth shut, but she was so focused on her emotion to care.

Wasn't long before she returned, "don't worry, I told Kinana and Lisana I'm taking the rest of the day off."

"You don't have to-" she couldn't finish as Mira put a finger to her lips.

"Erza, this is way more important than the bar for the guild, you clearly needs some help."

"Ok, then."

"Let's take this to your room in fairy hills ok!"

"No arguments here," and they were off to fairy hills.

When they made it back, Erza was at the foot of her bed and Mira in a nearby chair.

"So, where do you want to start?"

Her scarlet banged covered her eye for a brief moment before recounting the time he broke into her room as kids.

Mira let out a giggle at all the secret adventure they had over the years.

"Is that why you're slightly less violent with Natsu when the guild breaks out in a fight."

"And here I thought no one noticed."

"Very little can get past me."

"The master told you, didn't he!"

"When his weakness is beer and swim suite edition of sorcery weekly, of course."

"Remind me to punish him later!"

"Fine, so I didn't think you two went on an adventure when we were kids."

"You make it sound so indecent that way."

"Then what would I call it" Erza didn't respond "what was the gist of these adventures then?"

"It was mostly an exploration of the forest around magnolia and the occasional job after I put him through homeschooling."

"Is that all it was?"

"MIRA!"

"I'm kidding, but was it just you two or did Happy tagged along."

"Yes, he did and I threaten punishment if he let it slip! that lasted for a couple of years till he could do them on his own"

"So when you asked him and Gray for help with Eisenwald. Was it because you needed help, or you just want to be close to Natsu again," she said in suggestive tone.

Her face went bright red "of..course I..needed help. What would make you say otherwise," she looked away.

"Based on your reaction, you clearly missed spending time with him," she wore a smug grin.

"Ok, I admit it. I did miss the adventure we had as kids. Being around him helped keep the pain at bay.

"He has that effect on people" both shared a smile as they both had a fair share of painful experiences.

For the remainder of the day, Erza told her of her evolving feelings towards Natsu.

"It's obvious your in love with Natsu after everything you just told me."

"Then why do I feel this way then?"

"Your mind is telling you Jella is the one you love, but your heart says Natsu is!"

Hearing those words from her believe it or not, helped her.

With newfound strength, "I love Natsu!" she said fiercely.

"How do you feel now that you said it aloud?"

"A lot better actually," she held a small smile, finally being at peace with the feeling for fire dragon slayer.

"Good, now the hard part," Erza looks to her with a puzzled look. "Now we have to see if Natsu can pick up on those feelings and hoping he feels the same way toward you."

"I'm doomed" they both held their heads in shame.

This was going to be a lot harder than she thought.

been wanting to write NatsuXErza fic for the longest time but could never come up with a good idea that

a) wasn't used already by someone else

b) any idea I came up with worked better with a different female character

For those of you wondering personal experience tells me that the Core why Jellal rejects her throughout the manga

its never said but that just my inpression
