The first time Nile sees her big sister after Copley fakes her death, it's a rollercoaster of emotions. She's tired, run ragged by nightmares about said sister dying in outlandish ways - sometimes even taking Nile's place in familiar not-deaths that have already occurred. She ignores the looks from the others, blames it on guilt and homesickness, and keeps pushing forward.

Then her sister actually manages to find them, and the burst of joy outweighs the panic Nile feels at her secret being discovered. And then… then Sahara takes a bullet to the face before Nile's even had a chance to try to explain what the hell is going on. Except, she doesn't stay down.

Sahara rolls back upright in the chaos following her death - Nile sobbing, the others shouting, shouting, trying to find the shooter - and she has such an utterly unimpressed look on her face that Nile can't contain the hysterical giggle that bursts from her - half laugh, half cry - because only Sahara would take a headshot and come back to life looking inconvenienced by the whole ordeal, like dying and not staying dead is something she's already familiar with.

Maybe immortality runs in the family, Nile thinks.
