Request : April drops off Harriet at Jackson's but Harriet won't leave April and asks for her mother to stay with her and daddy How Japril explain to their growing daughter why she can't spend time with both her parents together Harriet wants her daddy to live with her mommy just like Ruby has both parents in the same house. April tells Jackson about her marital problems with Matthew

"Bug are you excited to see daddy? It'll be nice for you two to get to spend some time together." April says shifting Harriets bag on her shoulder while grabbing Harriet's hand and leading her into the elevator.

Harriet follows April into the elevator and pushes the button that takes them up to Jackson's Pike Place Penthouse suite. "Yes I'm so excited to see him! I've missed him a lot!" Harriet says "I always miss daddy when I'm with you but then I miss you when I'm with daddy…" Harriet trails off in a whisper as the elevator doors open.

April feels her heart shatter a little from Harriets admission but she takes a deep breath and reaches up to knock on Jackson's door before gently running her hand through Harriet's hair in acknowledgement of what she just heard.

"Daddy!" Harriet squeals with excitement as soon as Jackson opens the door.

"Hi sweetpea, I've missed you!" Jackson says as he lifts Harriet into a hug and uses his head to motion for April to follow them inside.

"Mmm daddy it smells so good in here!" Harriet exclaims as Jackson places her down in the living room. "It's because I knew you were coming today, so I had Grandpa Richard send over some of his home made pasta sauce that I know is your favourite."

"It is my favourite! Can mama stay and have some too?" Harriet asks looking between her parents.

"There's lots of food so of course mama can stay if she wants to." Jackson says, giving April a smile that doesn't quite meet his eyes.

April looks down at Harriet who is now pleading with puppy dogs eyes "Sure, that would be really nice." April says bending down to hand Harriet her backpack. "Why don't you go unpack in your room and wash up while I help daddy finish dinner." April suggests.

"Ok, mama" Harriet says as she takes her backpack and heads down the hall to her room.

April stands up and moves across the living room to the kitchen/dining area and sits herself on a stool at the island, watching Jackson finish up the garlic bread.

"Pasta with Richard's sauce, you really are trying to win favourite parent this month." April says with a slight chuckle.

"Do you think it's working?" Jackson asks his eyes finally meeting April's "April are you ok? You dont have to stay…"

"I'm ok, I've definitely been better but I'm ok. And I think dinner is actually a great idea" April says with a si1gh before continuing "Harriet mentioned when we were coming up here how she always misses you when she's with me and vice versa and it just hurts to know she's hurting, you know. I think she sees what other kids have whose parents are still together and it makes it tougher for her. Last weekend she went to a sleepover and came home talking about how Abby's family all ate dinner together and played games together and how both her parents tucked them in. It's just hard. I want that for her..."April trails off, fighting the tears that are welling up in her eyes.

Jackson sighs, wiping his hands off on the dish towel over his shoulder before going to his wine rack and pouring himself and April each a generous glass of red wine.

"I know…" Jackson starts "I was really hoping she'd be a little bit older before she realized but I'm not surprised. She's such a smart, caring kid and I hate that I can't give her what I always wanted…" Jackson stops talking as Harriet skips into the living room.

"Ready for dinner bug?" April asks as she gets up from the island, glass of wine in hand and heads to help Harriet into her booster seat.

Jackson brings over three plates of pasta with ceasar salad and garlic bread and a glass of milk for Harriet before taking his seat at the table. All three of them grab hands and bow their heads while April says grace, Jackson absentmindedly rubbing a thumb over April's hand. Once grace has been said everyone digs in. After a few minutes of Harriet telling Jackson all about the things he's missed in the last two weeks she'd been with April, Jackson decides to speak up.

"Mama shared with me you've been feeling a little sad about things lately. About mama and I not being with you together a lot."

"Ya I really don't like it." Harriet explains "I know when you work together we get to have snacks sometimes with all three of us at the daycare or you both get to come to me dance recitals and parent time at school but I like it when we're all together and I want it to be all the time. Also mama and you are so happy when we're all together and mama doesn't seem happy when we're with Matthew and you don't seem as happy without mama either." Harriet says matter of factly.

Jackson gulps trying to push past the lump that has just formed in his throat with the bombshell Hattie just casually dropped. Composing himself he tries to catch April's eye but she refuses to look anywhere but at their daughter. "I know it's hard baby. But you know mama and I love you so much right?" Harriet nods as Jackson continues "Mama and I also love each other very much and spending time with the three of us is our favourite but mama and I get along better when it's not the three of us all the time...I know it's hard to understand bug and you're allowed to feel sad or mad or upset, but just know we both love you very much. You're our very best girl and our most favourite thing is spending time with you." Jackson notices April wiping a tear from her cheek as she stands and collects everyone's plates.

Clearing her throat April says "I can do these dishes up if you want to get Hattie ready for bed, then maybe we can all watch a movie together?"

"Yay! That sounds like the best idea!" Harriet squeals as Jackson helps her out of her booster chair and holds her on his hip

"That does sound like a great 's go get you all clean" Jackson agrees as he turns to April and gives her a knowing look before he and Harriet head to the bathroom.

About half an hour later Harriet is in her pajamas, popcorn in hand, snuggled between her parents who have another glass of wine each in theirs, watching Tangled.

"7am the usual morning lineup...come on mama and daddy sing along!"

An hour later Harriet is asleep at one end of the couch, while Jackson and April are finishing the bottle of wine at the other.

With the wine lowering his inhibitions Jackson finally has no problem asking April what's been on his mind all night. "Is it true...what Harriet said...about you and Matthew? Are you not happy together?"

April looks sadly at Jackson for a few minutes before draining the last gulps of wine in her glass "...No we're not happy and haven't been for awhile. In the beginning he didn't like the fact that I went back to Seattle Grace but we worked past it. However recently more and more he hasn't liked when I've spent time with both you and Hattie, which she clearly needs but he's jealous and doesn't trust me. On top of all that he really wants to move to the east coast for a job offer he just got out there and the other night we were discussing it and I was trying to explain how I can't pick up and move because of Hattie but he thinks it's also because of you." April explains as she continues "I won't lie, I think the three of us going to church together a few weeks ago was the last straw for him. He asked me to stop doing things with you but I can't be with someone who doesn't trust me and who doesn't understand that my child needs time with both her parents together. And if I'm being honestly, the times it has been the three of us have felt more like family than anything else lately. So I think I'm getting divorced for a second time.I started renting a place a week ago." April finishes looking up and catching Jackson's eye before breaking down in quiet sobs as to not wake her sleeping daughter.

Jackson quickly sets down his wine, moving towards April. Instinctively he pulls her in close to him so her head is against his chest, rubbing his hands in soothing motions up and down her arms.

They sit together while he holds her for a few minutes and when Jackson feels April's breathing begin to become regular again he breaks the silence.

"April I am so sorry you are going through this. I'm sorry you're with someone who doesn't understand what you or our daughter need and that you've been dealing with it all on your own. I won't apologize for the time we all spent together though because if I'm honest it was as special and needed for me as it was for our daughter."

"Me too…" April whispers looking up at Jackson who cups her cheek in his hand. "Which is hard for me to admit because that makes Matthew right and makes me feel absolutely awful. Like I betrayed him, but I have to be honest with myself. And the truth is I'm not in love with Matthew and I want it to work between you and I so badly Jackson."

"April...I love you so much it hurts and would love nothing more for us to work." Jackson says. "However we both know we have things we need to work through and clearly Harriet is already struggling and I don't want to make things more difficult for her or give her false hope, so where do we go from here?"

"I agree, which is why I think we should start slow. Maybe go on a few dates just the two of us. Also if you're willing maybe we could start couples counselling. In awhile because I'm not ready for that yet and need to get through this divorce first, but sometime in the near future."

"I would love nothing more April Kepner." Jackson says rubbing his thumb across her cheek. Both of them lost in each other for a moment before they hear Harriet stir.

Clearing his throat Jackson stands up "I should get bug to bed." he says "Do you...want to stay the night? You probably shouldn't drive after all the wine we had."

"I really don't want to confuse Hattie like you said, so I'm just going to take a cab back to the apartment I'm renting, but I was wondering if you'd like to get brunch next week? Just the two of us, after the night shift we're both scheduled for." April asks cautiously.

"It's a date." Jackson confirms giving her the most genuine smile she'd seen from him in awhile.

With that Jackson carries a sleeping Harriet, head nestled into his shoulder to the front door.

As he closes the door watching April walk down the hall he whispers "goodnight sweetheart, I love you." to Harriet but just loud enough for April to hear.
