Duty Part One Rated PG Remus/Tonks

The first casualty of the second war was Andromeda Tonks, and it wasn't until her funeral that everything hit Remus. Not only her death, but Sirius' - he had had no funeral, and the only acknowledgement of his death was a half-page of the Daily Prophet, talking about Peter and his rat form, and issuing Sirius a full pardon.

Too late.

Remus had known Andry Tonks for a long time. They had been friends at Hogwarts. He had met her through Sirius, which also hurt.

He cried with Nymphadora during the funeral, only the third time he had cried since James' death had sunk in. They hugged each other, him stroking her currently sleek dark hair while she buried her head in his shoulder. Many of the Order were there, and to Nymphadora's disgust, her mother's older sister Narcissa Malfoy. Remus was glad that Nymphadora's cousin Draco wasn't there. He had taught the boy - Draco was in Harry's year and he and Harry hated each other as Snape and James had.

Or Snape and Sirius.

It was clear that Nymphadora was a target now. She was a known member of the Order and thusly Moody decided to give her a temporary guard.

She of course objected to this vehemently - she argued that she was an Auror and could take care of herself, that she could change her appearance and they would never know who she was. Nothing could sway Moody's decision, and Dumbledore agreed with it.

Remus, being the only member of the Order without a family or a steady job, volunteered frequently for guard duty over both her and Harry. He wondered vaguely sometimes if Harry knew he was still being tailed.

Nyphadora became adjusted to it eventually.
