Singing Woes
(Open to Kairi's bedroom. Kairi is lying on her bed with the radio playing 'Simple and Clean,' in the background.)
KAIRI: (singing along) Hold me. Whatever lies beyond this morning...
SORA: (walks in) Is that a cat screeching? (sees Kairi singing) Oh it's you.
KAIRI: (angrily) I sound fine, thank you very much! Remember, I was in the school choir!
SORA: Yeah, and two weeks after you joined, they disbanded.
KAIRI: Hmm...do I really sound that bad?
SORA: Yep.
RIKU: (walks in) Hey guys, did a cat die or something coz I could hear one screeching a couple of minutes ago.
SORA: That was Kairi.
RIKU: Oh...well anyway, I'm inviting you guys to my birthday party next week.
KAIRI: Where are we going?
RIKU: The Destiny Karaoke Bar.
SORA: I don't think that's such a good idea. I mean the owner of the bar is a friend of ours and Kairi's singing might scare away all the customers...
KAIRI: (defiantly) Oh yeah, is that what you think? Well I'll show you Sora! (in a huff, she storms out of the room.)
(Cut to Tidus' living room. Kairi is sitting opposite Tidus on his sofa.)
KAIRI: Well, you see, Riku's having a party at a karaoke bar next week and I was wondering whether you'd give me singing lessons. I mean I've heard you hum gospel songs before and you sounded pretty good...
TIDUS: (turns a flaming red and grabs her) Don't you dare tell anyone, or they'll call me a sissy - you hear!
KAIRI: Okay, okay! (Tidus lets go of her) But in exchange for my silence, you're going to have to give me singing lessons.
TIDUS: Oh, alrite...now sing something for me.
KAIRI: (sings) When you walk...
TIDUS: Oh dear god! (he covers his ears) Stop! Just stop!
KAIRI: ...
TIDUS: Sorry, but that was really bad. You're gonna need a lotta work.
(Cut to the Destiny Karaoke Bar. The week has passed and Kairi, Sora and Riku are nestled comfortably in the Karaoke lounge, filled with Japanese businessmen - I hear they love to party!)
SORA: (to Riku) So, birthday boy, what do you want to sing?
KAIRI: (interrupts) I'll sing! (Sora and Riku exchange uncomfortable glances. Oblivious, Kairi makes her song choice and begins dishing out 'Simple and Clean')
KAIRI: (sings) You're giving me, too many things lately. You're all I need...
RIKU: Hey, she sounds pretty good! (soon, all the drunken businessmen of the bar are crowded around Kairi. As the song finishes, they shout 'Encore, encore, encore!' in their best English)
KAIRI: (flustered) Well, alrite. (she begins again, but suddenly, she feels as if she is out of breath. But, overwhelmed by this newfound talent, she continues)
KAIRI: (sings) Don't get me wrong...urgh...(she suffocates and dies. The crowd groans and shuffles away)
SORA: Oh man, she stopped singing...(examines Kairi, who is now collapsed on the floor).. oops, Kairi died.
RIKU: Oh well. (after a short pause) Let's continue the song! (they sing)
BUSINESSMAN: (in Japanese) Arghh! A monster! (the entire karaoke bar empties out leaving only Sora and Riku)
SORA & RIKU: (sing happily) Regardless of warnings, the future doesn't scare me at all. Nothing's like before!
