CONSTANT

Author: donnatellaMarks

Summary: Denial is the one constant. 2nd person Ray/Lily little ficlet, set circa "Detention Redemption".

Disclaimer: Do I look like an obscure Canadian network to you?

A/N- This little ficlet is dedicate to my favorite whore, the reigning queen of the ff.net RFR section, mistress of the universe, to thank her for lending me her RFR tapes. Go read and review all of her fics. I think she is a T/L shipper, and this may piss her off. :)

And so it begins…

A touch.

A brush of knees and a graze of fingers.

"Hey pretty lady."

You love it even more every time.

His last few quarters buy a bottle of juice from the vending machine, and he presents it to you with a winning smile, and that lingering glance. You feel his eyes brush over your body.

You choose to ignore the red blush staining your cheeks.

After school in the warehouse, Robbie's talking about love again and you wonder when he'll get a new topic.

"So, Pronto, what are your thoughts on the subject? Shady?"

You both choose to ignore the strange silence.

Another day.

Ignoring it is getting easier.

It all comes down to a matter of choice.

You choose to act, or you choose not to

You just wish your will was stronger.

"Hey pretty lady."

He says it again and your iron will is broken like a pane of glass, shattered in a million pieces.

Build up that wall again before you give in.

You can't feel this way.

You can't.

You don't.

Really.

You don't.

Maybe one of these days you'll believe it.

"Okay, you caught us. We were making out," you say as an excuse. The janitor gives Ray an approving glance, and you can't help but wish this wasn't a lie.

That red blush is back again as you drag him back to detention, his skin burning beneath your fingertips.

You ignore the way your thoughts go and push them back out your mind.

You choose not to remember dreaming about that phantom touch.

"I see the way you look at him. And I know you see the way he looks at you."

Caught.

"No, no-" you sputter, but you know she knows. You know she sees every look that lasts a little to long, and every friendly hug where hands wander a little lower than they should.

Denial isn't so bad.

Alright, maybe it's a little bad.

But it's all you've got.
