The Jewel of Storms

Prologue

Reikai Prison

The footsteps of a demoness echoed through the corridors of the dark prison. The only light came from the torches on the wall and the ball of light in the demoness's hand, the light that leaked from the tiny windows barely illuminated the figures in the prison cells. None of the prisoners was the one whom she was looking for though, even so she briefly examined the faces of the prisoners. Some were low class wind demons, others were born of water, and some were of other types. One she passed was a gruff red-haired psychic. The demoness continued in her way, her gaze returning in front of her.

It wasn't long before she reached him, the prisoner she was looking for. She pulled the key to his cell out of her pocket and placed it into the keyhole. Silently, she braced herself, from what she heard he had become more aggressive over the past five years. Despite her fears she turned the key and let herself in. 'He should remember me.' She thought to herself. 'It doesn't matter how insane he's become. He should remember me.'

The prisoner in the cell looked up as she entered, and their eyes met. For one instant a glimmer of recognition flickered in his eyes. "T-Tori?" He muttered almost inaudibly, his voice hoarse from lack of use. He made to move for her but restrained himself and leaned back on the wall of his cell. "Is that really you?"

'Tori' tried to hold back a small smile that pulled at her lips. "Yes," she replied, "it's me." She approached him slowly, the bright ball of light gleaming brilliantly. When she was directly in front of him Tori bent down to his eye level. She placed her free hand on his fore head and brushed away the matted hair in front of his eyes. "You really are a wreck." She murmured.

He flinched and pulled away. A look of hurt passed over Tori's face for a moment. "What do you want?" He asked.

"It's about your brother." The prisoner raised an eyebrow; surely there was more to it than that. At this Tori sighed. "And also about this." She reached into her breast pocket to pull out a small red gem on a silver string. He examined it carefully from a distance and than, confirming it was real, looked back up at Tori. She pocketed the gem and, with her hand now free, tenderly brushed a hand across his cheek. "I need your help."
