Song- I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz
Part 10 – I Won't Give Up
Hermione tucked her rolls of parchment into her bag as she packed to head to the library like she did every day before and after lunch. The books always more sense than her love life. In the back of her head, she thought of her strange conversation with her mentor earlier that morning. Of course, McGonagall spoke the truth but it made her stomach tighten as she wondered what the elder had up her sleeve, so to speak.
She put her bag down as she remembered she needed her favorite peacock quill which she left by her bedside. But the sight of an unfamiliar book on her bed caused to pause in her footsteps. The breeze from the open window lifted the blue cover to show that it was a blank journal, well except there appeared to be a note stuck in the front cover.
Hermione smiled as she recognized the cover of the journal blue public call box from her favorite muggle show and pulled out the small note that said:
When I look into your eyes
It's like watching the night skies
Or a beautiful sunrise
There's so much they hold
And just like them old stars
I see that you've come so far
To be right where you are
How old is your soul?
She recognized the same writing of all those letters she had been getting over the summer. So, it looked like Draco chose to make his feelings more known. But a bit stunned she took the journal back into her main room as she picked up her bag to head to the library. She always thought more clearly surround by the smell of old parchment and quiet of being alone with nothing but walls and walls of variety of aged tombs.
Hermione entered the empty library as she knew the librarian Madame Pince laid on some beach before the kids came back. Her tension started to slip away as she made her way through the aisles to "her" table. The parchment filled bag set on the table as she went to sit down but immediately rose back up as sat on something. She whipped around to see a flat black box laid on her chair.
'Please, oh please don't be jewelry. That really isn't-,' her inner dialogue stopped as she raised a lid to reveal a set of three fine quills just like her favorite teal peacock one in her bag. But they were three lovely different colors of burgundy, golden, and purple with the inner designs done in silver. So beautiful and then she noticed in the lid there was yet another note:
I won't give up on us, even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love, I'm still looking up
And when you're needing your space, to do some navigating
I'll be here patiently waiting, to see what you find
'Cause even the stars they burn
Some even fall to the earth
We've got a lot to learn
God knows we're worth it
No, I won't give up
Hermione tucked the box into her bag as some tears began to form as she raced out of the library and headed outside towards the lake. Draco had used the four letter word. Yes, he said he gave her as much space as she needed and that would he waiting. Part of her lightened that he had finally admitted what she had been afraid to admit to herself.
She walked quick as she tossed the bag under her favorite tree and reached the edge of the lake. Hermione wrapped her arms around her chest as she felt the tears break and ran down her cheeks. Her mind ran with fears of moving too fast and what if this wasn't love just infatuation. Shouldn't you know when it is true love?
Her foot touched the first stone and noticed she stepped on something soft. She glanced down to see small blanket with a rolled up parchment tied with that black ribbon she had gone to him with before running to Hogwarts for time away from everything. A soft tint crept across her cheeks as she remembered that amazing night and she unrolled the noted:
I don't wanna be someone who walks away so easily
I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make
And in the end, you're still my friend at least we did intend
For us to work we didn't break, we didn't burn
We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in
I had to learn what I've got, and what I'm not and who I am
I won't give up on us, even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up, still looking up.
She grabbed her bag as she ran back to her rooms and as she planned to go confront him. McGonagall allowed her fireplace to be connected to the Floo network. Draco could not just send her romantic notes and simply think she be all weak-kneed girly. She was made of stronger stuff that that. Just who did he think he was?
Hermione dropped her bag inside the front of her rooms and almost tripped over her own feet as Draco stood there in front of her fireplace with a single red rose in his hand. Harry had never given her flowers and now she had no words. Just seeing Draco made her realize how much she had missed him and yes, even started to love him.
He crossed the room as he spoke, "I won't give up on us. Gods knows I'm tough enough. We've got a lot to learn. God knows we're worth it. I won't give up on us, even if the skies get rough. I'm giving you all my love, I'm still looking up."
Draco looked deep into her eyes as he raised a finger to stop a tear from rolling down her cheeks. He took his other hand to wrap around her waist to pull her closer to him as he leaned forward to press his forehead to hers and whispered, "I am not asking forever, right now. All I am asking for is just a chance for us to start something that could be absolutely fantastic. How about dinner and a movie? And go from there."
"A date sounds perfect," Hermione replied softly as she raised her face to look into his eyes. His face beamed at her answer as she wrapped her arms around his neck to bring him down for a kiss. Maybe it was time for a new start.
