-This is based on Of Mice and Men. Hope you enjoy it. Just a little something about Lennie.-

Heaven and Earth

Lennie sat with his back against a tall tree, its branches providing a few yards of shade for him. There was a river nearby, but perhaps too clean and good and pure to be called a river. There were clouds………some pink, some a light, puffy blue. Around Lennie and the tree was a vast, golden field, as far as the eye could see. In the distance were tall, beautiful mountains.

In the field were rabbits. Hundreds of rabbits. There were different colors. Blue. Red. Pink. Yellow. Green. Purple. Orange. Black. White. Brown. Lennie was smiling his usual, exited, content smile. Some of the rabbits were sitting in his lap.

Lennie had a piece of alfalfa for the rabbits. He held out his hand and a red rabbit jumped on his lap and eagerly chewed some, nibbling hastily with its little nose moving up and down and its eager black eyes gazing no where in particular.

Lennie giggled happily. The rabbit took another piece of alfalfa. "Now you slow down," Lennie said in his soft voice, "you's gonna be sick eatin' fast like you done," but he was happy. Happier than he's ever been.

"George," he said, "George look what I done!" But George wasn't there.

---------------------

George blinked sadly. He had a stern expression, trying to hide his pain. He had lost his best friend. His friend who was like a brother. Lennie. He slung a sack over his shoulder and continued down the road.

A slight wind blew a puff of dust in front of him and rustled the trees. The Gabilan mountains were bright with the fading sun. It had been some time before Slim could convince George to move on. It was easier said than done. Slim wasn't the one who lost someone. He didn't understand the companionship Lennie and George shared. Most ranch hands didn't. They were loners.

George and Lennie always stuck together. They had stayed with each other, sticking together in the face of persecution. George had looked after Lennie for a long time, making sure no one mistreated him, getting him jobs and food.

And Lennie………Lennie was a friend, just in himself. He protected George. They stuck together, and had each other.

George felt so small and alone without Lennie. Lennie had been with him since………even George couldn't remember.

But he had a plan. As painful as it was, and as hard as George tried to cover it up, he would work his way to get that house. To get the rabbits and the chickens and the animals. To stay in the house when it rained, to drink rich and creamy milk, to go to the carnivals and take care of the land.

There would be rabbits.

There would be a stove.

There would be rain and thunder.

And there would be Lennie.

-Please review, even if you don't like it or it didn't phase you much. For those of you who are wondering, it's supposed to be kind of like a Lennie's in heaven and George is on earth type of thing.-
