They had it all worked out months before the two were born.

Beautiful women had seated themselves in sturdy, expensive wicker chairs in a garden full of flowers. An umbrella was placed carefully over them, shielding their faces from the sun. The wind was just right, and their tea was held just perfectly in their hand.

"My dear, Regina, we must take matters into our own hands. It is quite obvious that our husbands are incapable." One of them said, brushing her pale blonde hair from her face before bringing the teacup to her perfectly lined lips.

"Ah yes. The concept is very tough for them both to grasp." Another replied, one that had been called Regina. She smiled bitterly, her own dark brown hair resting on her partially revealed back.

"No matter. You are having a girl, correct?" The first asked, setting her teacup down and carefully placing her hands in front of her pregnant stomach.

"Why yes, Narcissa. And you have a boy, yes?" Regina asked, tilting her head slightly and placing her hands in front of her own impregnated stomach as well.

"Correct. I simply do not trust teenagers in this time to be able to choose their own significant other for them. We were all fools in our teenage years." The one called Narcissa replied, a small smirk twitching onto her lips.

Regina let out a bitter laugh, attempting to ignore the fact that Death Eaters were currently meeting and discussing in the parlor of the Malfoy Manor which they sat outside of.

"We were quite lucky, if I do recall. Neither of us had to worry of the foolish romance problems in our teenage years. Because we knew we were to marry who we had been betrothed to do so." Regina replied, a smirk matching that of Narcissa's currently on her own features.

"Very lucky, my dear. I believe that a daughter from a line as pure as yours, and a family so respectable and well-brought-up would suit a son from our own lines." Narcissa replied in a dignified manner.

"The only apparent conclusion to me is to bring the soon-to-be Pansy together with your soon-to-be Draco." Regina replied, a falsely sweet smile settling onto her lips.

"Right you are. She will someday be Pansy Malfoy." Narcissa said, a similar grin forming onto her own features.

"Good. It's settled then. You will have the papers sent to me, yes?" Regina asked, though of course, knew the answer.

"Yes. They will be sent as soon as Lucius and I have signed." Narcissa answered, turning her head to where several men were shaking hands and apparating off.

"Regina, darling!" Called a low voice from the house, and Regina stood up, ignoring the light pain and difficulties as she brushed off nonexistent crumbs from her rounded belly, smiling at her husband falsely and heading towards him.

"Thank you, Narcissa. I shall see you soon." Regina called back to her, soon meeting her husband.

It was a year later that the two betrothed children were set together in a playpen within the giant manor. The two women sat and talked of life while the two children stared at each other.

The girl reached down and snatched a toy, bringing the rims of the boy's eyes to tears. He had wanted that toy. Perhaps merely out of coincidence, or perhaps not, but the girl handed the boy the toy.

It was the beginning of a not-so-beautiful friendship.
