Thunder roared outside, wind blew hard, brining the trees to life and lightning lit up the sky. The day had been quite sunny, despite the few dark clouds that had drifted into view. No rain had been seen for a few days lately, so this storm was obviously going to be quite large. Outside, few rain droplets dripped down from the sky, merely wetting the grass. Seconds later, an eruption of heavy raindrops poured down from the clouds, soaking everything in site.
"Goodnight boys." The Elric brother's mother whispered, tucking each boy into his own separate bed.
Al sighed, looking out the window as lightening and thunder played their parts in the rainy sky. The wind howled loudly, causing Al to duck his head under the covers. Though out their childhood, Al had come to realize Ed's little obsession with being outside in the rain. On some days when the rain would fall, Edward would head outside, only to return home with soaking wet clothes and a high fever. But a fever wasn't enough to stop the boy, every single time it rained; Ed would be out there. He'd even remember the day his older brother had dragged him out into the rain with him. Edward had asked why he didn't seem to like the rain, and told him he should come out when it rained more often, until he got used to it. But Al didn't answer his brother; instead, he'd just tried to keep up with Ed pulling him along by the hand. When they had returned home, both boys were soaked. Ed didn't seem to mind it one bit, although Al's first thoughts were about getting dry.
Thunder roared outside again, followed by a streak of light spreading down to the ground. Al winced, if there was anything that scared him, it was heavy rain, as well as loud thunder and lightning. Getting up slowly, Al carefully tiptoed his way to his brother's room.
"Ed?", he whispered, opening the door slightly. There was Ed, sleeping soundly. How could he sleep with a storm like that outside?
"Ed?", he repeated, this time, receiving an answer.
"Yeah?" Ed replied tiredly, "What are you doing here?", he questioned, a confused look on his face.
"Well, I um… the rains keeping me up and all so I thought…" Al paused.
"You're scared? Aren't you?", Ed restrained from laughing.
"Well…sort of and-" Al closed his eyes tightly as he was cut off from the loud boom outside.
"Scaredy cat!", Ed chuckled, as Al sat on the edge of his bed, moving closer his brother every time the thunder rolled.
"Everyone knows thunder can't hurt you." Ed stated.
"I know…"
"Hey, if you want to stay here with me, that's fine."
"Really?" Al cocked his head.
"Nah, I don't mind." Ed smiled, moving over to giving his younger brother some room.
Al sighed comfortingly, pulling the sheets halfway up over his head.
"Thanks brother, goodnight."
"Goodnight Al."
That was the first time that Al had ever slept so soundly through a storm like that.
