When someone refers to Hao as an element, the first substance we think of is fire. It just makes sense. Hao is the very epitome of a flame, and all things; him, his spirit, his character suggests that. We see Hao as untouchable - pretty to look at, but far too hot to touch. It's just his way of doing things.

So Hao is fire, and naturally, Yoh should be water. Like night and day, black and white.

Only Yoh doesn't see it that way. He likes to be rain instead.

There's something grand about being millions of droplets at once, falling on everything and everyone, suspended in droplets, dropping almost lazily. Trickling slowly down windows, umbrellas, managing to get everywhere in the process. Rain falls because it gets too heavy. Hao thinks that's obvious, Yoh thinks that's perfect.

Because rain can fall down freely. Because rain can help plants and life grow. Because it takes no effort at all.

And outside, when it is too wet and too cold, Yoh is always under the grey clouds. Hao can see Yoh's dark head tilted back, dark strands plastered to his face and headphones dotted dark orange. An alluring sight, especially with Yoh's clothes being as thin as they are, and Hao is always keen to warm Yoh up afterwards. Very thoroughly.

After all, it is Hao's job to heat up water. Without warmth, water doesn't exist as rain, and so Hao makes sure he does his job.

Yoh is also content to let it be that way, for a while, maybe forever. He allows the sly touches, and he tilts his neck sideways, always, to let the dark kisses and soft brush of hair make contact with skin.

Yes, fire does make rain. It happens daily.

But if you turn the cycle around, and look the other way,

Rain can put out fire too.
