Sorry
"Ed..."
"Yes, Winry?"
"Why him?" Winry's voice sounded hurt.
"What?" Ed was totally bewildered.
"Ed.." Winry blushed and turned her face away from Ed. "Ed, I love you," she said in a rush, embarrassed by the fact that she was making a confession.
Ed was just staring at her, his mouth hanging open, speechless. After a while, he finally found his voice. But all he could say was, "What?"
"I love you, Ed," Winry repeated quietly, this time looking at Ed directly, their eyes meeting. Ed shifted uncomfortably under her gaze.
"What does that mean?" he asked, though he very well knew what it meant.
"It's the exact same thing you say to that man every night, and the exact same thing he says to you," Winry said coldly.
Ed was silent. He didn't know what to say. He watched as Winry buried her head in her hands, and, he assumed, wept.
"Why him, of all people? Did it have to be him? He was the killer of my parents! How could you..." Winry's voice trailed off and she lifted her head to look at Ed. She had an upset, desperate look in her eyes.
"I'm sorry." Ed couldn't think of anything else to say at that moment.
"You broke my heart, Ed! You went for the love of a man! A man who murdered my parents! Do you think that just saying 'sorry' would be enough?" she screamed, banging her fists on the table. She was crying now, tears spilling from her eyes, tears of anger and pain.
"Look, Winry, I'm really sorry, but how was I supposed to know that you love me?" Ed said. He was getting furious. Winry could be really unreasonable at certain times.
"You don't need to say sorry to me!" Winry yelled, throwing things at him. "Go and be with your Roy! Don't ever let me see you again!"
Ed gaped at her for a while. Then he stood up. "Fine," he spat, putting on his coat. "Fine. I'm leaving now, and I won't ever come back. Don't you regret it." He paused, waiting to see if Winry would change her mind.
But all he got was a sharp glare from Winry.
He turned and went for the door, but before he walked out, he muttered something softly under his breath.
"I'm sorry, Winry. But love is not something you can choose yourself. The fact that I'm in love with Roy cannot be changed by anything."
And with that, he left the house. He kept his promise and Winry never saw him again.
A/N: This scene kept nagging at me until I finally wrote it down. I hope this is a pretty good fic. I'm discouraged in writing Harry Potter fanfiction, because when I wrote my first one, not a single person reviewed and I was sad. Very sad indeed. I won't write HP fanfics anymore. But I will keep writing FMA fanfics because there are lots of people willing to review! Thanks for everyone who review my fics! Please read and review.
