I do not own Shadow, Maria, or Gerald Robotnick. I do not own the song "A New Day Has Come". Thanks for reading!
A New Day Has Come
A new day has come
A new day has come
6 year old Maria Robotnick was playing with her dolls by herself. As usual, she felt lonely. Who could blame her though? She was the only child on the Colony Ark. She had her grandfather, professor, Gerald Robotnick, but he always seemed to busy with his research to pay any attention to her. Suddenly, her grandfather came into the room holding a small bundle wrapped in a blanket.
I was waiting for so long,
For a miracle to come,
Everyone told me to be strong,
Hold on and don't shed a tear
"Maria, I have someone I want you to meet." the professor said.
"Who is it?" Maria asked curiously, thinking it was a new scientist coming to work on the Ark.
"Maria, I'd like you to meet…" Gerald began, unwrapping, the blanket from the top of the bundle, revealing a newborn, baby hedgehog. "Shadow the hedgehog."
Through the darkness and good times,
I knew I'd make it through,
And the world thought I had it all,
But I was waiting for you,
Maria gasped at the little face poking out of the bundle. The hedgehog was black, and had red streaks in his quills. The babe was sobbing, his red from crying. The professor smiled. He then walked over, and placed Shadow in Maria's arms.
"I created him as a project, but he's still too young to help me with my work." the girl's grandfather explained. "I thought you could look after him until he came of age."
Hush love,
I see a light in the sky,
Oh it's almost blinding me,
I can't believe,
I've been touched by an angel with love
"I will grandpa, don't worry!" she assured him, her eyes beaming.
"Alright then Maria, I'm counting on you." he replied, chuckling slightly as he went back to his lab.
Maria looked down at the hedgehog in her arms, who was still crying.
Let the rain come down and wash away my tears,
Let it fill my soul and drowned my fears,
Let it shatter the walls,
For a new sun
A new day has come
"Hello there, Shadow." Maria cooed at the infant.
Shadow opened his eyes, which revealed ruby red eyes, and stopped crying as soon as he saw Maria. He still had tears in his eyes, but his crying had toned down to a small whimper. Maria smiled at the babe, who somehow made her feel very happy.
Where there was dark, now there's light,
Where there was pain, now there's joy,
Where there was weakness, I found my strength,
Oh, in the eyes of a boy
"You know what Shadow, I don't think I'll be so lonesome anymore." the child told Shadow.
The girl reached down and tickled the baby stomach, causing him to giggle. Smiling, Maria carried him over to one of her doll cribs, and gently placed him inside.
"I'll go get you some warm milk." Maria said. "I'll be right back!"
Hush love,
I see a light in the sky,
Oh, it's almost blinding me,
I can't believe,
I've been touched by an angel with love
Maria quickly heated some milk in a bottle, and brought it back to the babe. Scooping him up into her arms again, she offered him the bottle. He looked at it for a moment, than began to suck on it hungrily.
So this is what it's like to have a friend… Maria thought to herself.
Let the rain come down and wash away my tears,
Let it fill my soul and drown my fears,
Let it shatter the walls,
For a new sun
A new day has come
Hush now,
I see a light in your eyes,
Oh, in the eyes of a boy
I can't believe,
I've been touched by an angel with love
Hush now,
A new day has come
The End
