One look.
That's all Phinx had ever hoped for. One look that was filled with more than just bored indifference. He didn't know why it meant so much to him. Why did his heart pound every time Feitan turned towards him, then constrict painfully when he was met with cold unfeeling eyes?
The cold emptiness had become so much he'd resorted to being as annoying as he could to the short thief. He flirted blatantly, and interfered in all their jobs depriving the younger man of his victims. It didn't take him long to realize that was the wrong approach—The first was met with a cold shoulder, and the second with a knife to his throat, and a venom filled threat. That was when Phinx learned how most people that stood between Feitan and a kill were usually met with death.
Taking all that he had learned regarding the little sadist he had decided to get him a gift.
Though, as Phinx stood in the nearly deserted bookstore, and gaped at row upon row of books, he realized it wouldn't be as easy as he had hoped. Maybe a book wasn't the best idea. He'd been at the store for nearly an hour, and was no closer to finding a suitable book for Feitan as he was to getting the man to look at him. Phinx tried to think back to one of the many times he'd seen him reading, but he couldn't remember what kind of books the other Spider read.
"Damn," he cursed, as all he saw on this aisle were cheesy romance novels. Hurrying down that aisle and to another section his eyes caught sight of a display.
"Perfect." Phinx's face broke out in a smirk.
Phinx debated what he should do with the gift. He was originally going to just wrap it and give it to Feitan, but he quickly dismissed that idea as ridiculous and much too blunt. Phinx needed to put some effort into this, he knew it wouldn't work if he went about it in his usual tactless way.
Heading up to the room they shared—a fact he silently thanked Danchou for every day—and set the book down on Feitan's bed, before grabbing his headphones, and laying back on his own bed to wait.
At some point Phinx had fallen asleep. His instincts woke him up, alerting him to another presence in the room. He snapped his eyes open. Feitan turned away quickly with an unreadable expression on his face.
He was about to sit down on his bed when he noticed the book, and his narrow eyes nearly imperceptibly widened. He turned confused and surprised eyes towards Phinx, then back to the book.
"What is this?" Feitan asked hesitantly.
"It's a book." Phinx snickered.
Feitan's eyes narrowed, and he turned to leave.
"Wait!" Phinx called, inwardly cursing himself for being an ass. "It's an art book, by some guy named Trevor Brown."
"An art book?" He raised an eyebrow, but stayed where he was, looking at Phinx skeptically.
Phinx walked over and picked the book up before handing it to Feitan. "Just look at it. I think you'll like it."
Feitan opened the book, and flipped through a few pages, taking in the pictures of bruised dolls, and dead lolitas covered in blood. He shut the book, and looked up at Phinx with guarded eyes.
"Why?" He asked suspiciously.
"Because I wanted to." Phinx answered.
A slow smirk spread across Feitan's face, and his eyes had a slight warmth to them.
"Baka." Feitan sat down, and reclined back on his bed, opening the book again.
Phinx knew it was worth it.
end.
Well, of course like always reviews are welcomed.
