A/N: This is a very lame story I wrote back in late 2003. It's not at all my best work so you can flame me if you want
Disclaimer: I don't own Lizzie McGuire. I also don't own "Shadow" by Britney Spears.
…
Your body's warm but you are not
You give a little not a lot
It could be love until we kiss
You're all I want but not like this
I'm watching you disappear but you, you were never here
…
Fourteen-year-old Lizzie McGuire was smiling in her mind. It was all too perfect and the best part was, she wasn't dreaming.
She leaned in slowly to kiss him again. Here she was in the boy of dream's arms, being held by him, kissing him. It was all too good to be true.
…
It's only your shadow, never yourself
It's only your shadow, nobody else
It's only your shadow filling the room
Arriving too late
And leaving too soon
And leaving too soon
…
But the weird part was that he felt cold and icy, like he wasn't there in person.
She pulled away from his icy body. She was shocked to see it wasn't him, just a shadow that felt like him.
…
Your body gives but then pulls back
The sun is bright, the sky is black
Can only be another sign
I cannot keep what isn't mine
You left your love linger on, but you, you were almost gone
…
She had been fooling herself again. What else was new?
It never was him. And it never would be him.
It would always be a mere shadow of him.
She felt fresh, hot, salty tears run down her face.
She loved him, and she had him. She was holding him, showing him her love. It was all so perfect, until they kissed. That's when the truth hit her.
She climbed back into bed. This happened to her every night.
She wanted to be with him so bad it was driving her crazy.
It was like this: she had him, then she kissed him, and then he turned out to be nothing but a shadow.
She wanted him, but not like this at all.
…
It's only your shadow, never yourself
It's only your shadow, nobody else
It's only your shadow filling the room
Arriving too late
And leaving too soon
And leaving too soon
…
He just seemed to disappear, leaving behind a shadow.
It was his shadow, not him! Why was it always this way?
Why couldn't it be him?
She loved him, but he couldn't see that.
It was hopeless.
…
How can I tell if you mean what you say
You say it so loud that you sound far away
Maybe I have just a glimpse of your soul
Or what that your shadow I saw on the wall
I'm watching you disappear but you, you were never here
…
She'd never have him. She'd always get stuck with his shadow.
Why her?
It was like his body was in her arms, giving her love one minutebut gone the next.
She sighed heavily, looking out her bedroom window.
The sky was pure black. But if the sky was black how did that make him be there? He was a shadow after all…
…
It's only your shadow, never yourself
It's only your shadow, nobody else
It's only your shadow filling the room
Arriving too late, no, no, no
It's only your shadow
It's only your shadow, nobody else
It's only your shadow
Arriving too late, and leaving too soon
Ooh, it's only your shadow
…
Oh yeah, it was just a dream…her and David Gordon's love. It was always just a foolish dream.
And it would stay this way. Forever.
