inspired by a line in Cowboy Bebop. written more for manga than for anime. I haven't really read the manga, so it might be a little inaccurate, but I pretty much know most of the story. this one follow's Kanone's character upto vol 13.

Spoilers: slight for the manga.

Disclaimer: pinksnow does not own Spiral, Kanone, or the line fom Cowboy Bebop. ( Life is cruel! )

On with the story.

In many ways, it could be said that Kanone was very much a child.

( Playing with knives, playing with guns and bombs. Such wrong, wrong toys. )

Yes. Kanone was a child and the world was his playground. You could easily see that he was a happy child. And why wouldn't he be ? With so many great friends like Eyes, Kousuke, Rio, Ryoko.

( Friends. Friends. A reason to live. )

Day and night, they would play with the Hunters.

( No. That's. Wrong. The Hunters were playing with them. Their lives. Their sanity. Not the other way around. Never the other way around. Except. Maybe, for one player. One single player. )

And Kanone noticed he was good at them, all of them, those games that is.

It was not so hard. Not at all. Because the rules of these games were simple.

( And easy to understand. )

Be it tag, be it hide and seek, there was only one rule to be followed.

( Just one. One single rule. )

It was – Kill or be killed.

And Kanone found himself winning every single time.

( The child that he was. Children know how to play games. Even new, difficult ones. )

And victory felt nice. It felt good, lovely, thrilling, entertaining.

( Fun. Fun. It was so much fun. )

One fine, sunny day, they were joined by a new player. One who went by the name of Kiyotaka Narumi.

( And this one could play. He played like a pro. )

Kiyotaka had a brand new playground of his own. And new toys. So many new toys.

( Toys like hope and the promise of happiness. )

The new playground was magical and the toys glowed with light. All of it, he shared with the blade children.

( Too good. Too good to be true. )

Soon everyone was playing with these new toys, in the new playground.

( Because old games get boring easily. So very easily. )

And Kanone was invited too of course.

( But children are perceptive. Yes, they are. )

Behind all the magic, he kept seeing something else. Something dark. Something sinister. Like deceit, deception, lies.

( And children, be wary of strangers. Especially those who give you candy. They are Unsafe. Unsafe. )

Thus Kanone would not play. No matter how much Eyes wished otherwise, the child in him refused to play these new games, with new rules. Games he couldn't understand, comprehend. Games made by Kiyotaka.

( Just what game was this strange man playing? Manipulating what was left of their innocence ? )

And such is the fate of the eternal child. Nobody wanted to play with him anymore.

So Kanone left, feeling wronged, angry.

( The child that he was. )

But the child still wanted to play with his friends.

( Always. Always. Play together. Forever. )

So Kanone made some new games, with a new rule. This rule was also simple – If I'm going down, I'll take you with me.

( Because the child still wanted to play. )

And play he did, with his old friends.

( Unleash Hell.)

Just like always, it was fun. But this time, he lost.

( Lost. Lost. Failed at his own game. Playing is not so easy after all. )

But still, he had no regrets.

( Because nothing is so pure and cruel as a child. )

And a child he will remain, forever.

Author's note: the line from C.B was ' there is nothing as pure and cruel as a child. '
