Chapter 27- Nuttiness Up the Wazoo

"This is NOT fun anymore!" Lorelai grumbled from the couch. "I know I was couch potato girl before and I don't get me wrong, if you need someone to sit on a couch all day and watch movies, I'm your girl, but I haven't moved from said couch in over 3 weeks! I have watched every movie I own plus everything Rory rented for me from the video store. I've seen all three A Stars is Born and even compared and contrasted them! I need some other form or entertainment. I need sunlight! I want to step outside and smell the roses! What do roses smell like you ask? Well, I wouldn't know. I haven't smelled any in a while. Luke get your sexy butt in here and show me some of that belly dancing I know you have been practicing!" She demanded.

"Lorelai!" Luke scolded from another part of the house.

"I am desperate for entertainment and you aren't letting me get off the couch," she pouted.

"The doctor said bedrest! You're lucky I'm letting you go up and down the stairs every day to move from the bed to the couch," he said, coming downstairs with some of Rory's suitcases.

"I feel like a beached whale!" Lorelai moaned in frustration as she slouched further down on to the couch.

"Just a few more weeks and you are going to be begging for your couch potato time back when there are two screaming babies in the house," he reminded her.

"Maybe they'll be angels and they won't scream."

"Look who their mother is, it's not happening," Luke pointed out causing Lorelai gasped, appalled.

"Mom!" Rory yelled from upstairs, "Have you seen my sneakers?"

"Did you check your feet?" Lorelai smartly asked back knowing the state of mind of her daughter lately.

Rory looked down at her feet to realize that she was already wearing them. "Oh, right," she said. "All this packing for school is making me lose my head! What do I take with me, what do I leave behind? When I was at Chilton I didn't have to think about this. I wore the same outfit everyday now. And now, look," she pointed to the piles of black bags, luggage, and boxes that were piled up against a wall between the living room and foyer, "look at all this stuff! And it's your fault. You inculcated into me a tolerance for rampant consumerism," Rory began to rant from her room upstairs.

"What?" Lorelai couldn't hear her from her spot on the couch, but leaned over towards the coffee table where magazines were spread out in hopes of a new entertainment source.

Rory didn't hear Lorelai and continued to rant, "When did I become one of those girls with dozens of beauty products, none of which are expendable? It used to be a touch of mascara, dab of Coppertone, zip, bam, boom, out the door."

"I heard copper and boom!" Lorelai yelled causally, getting distracted by picking up a new Cosmo magazine that was lying on the table.

Rory came down the stairs and sighed, "Never mind."

"Aww, loin fruit. Take the essentials now and you can always come and grab whatever you need when you come home to see your Momma!" Lorelai suggested a solution to her problem as she thumbed through the pages of the magazine.

"I don't know how much time I'm going to have with classes and things! I can't believe I move in this weekend!" she said in disbelief.

"My baby is fleeing the nest!" Lorelai cried overdramatically! "Why you want to leave me?" she mimicked a Greek accent.

"Aww, just spray some Windex on it. It'll cure your temporary empty nest. I'll be back later," Rory said as she made her way towards the door.

"Cooper boom!" Lorelai responded.

"What?"

"It's what you said a little bit ago," Lorelai explained.

"But you missed a bunch of stuff in between," Rory told her.

"I think it's catchy. Go, go, you have errands to run."

"Copper boom!"

"Copper boom!"

-X-

Lorelai was sitting in her usual spot on the couch munching on cheese puffs straight from the bag while old reruns of Cop Rock played on television.

"Mooom!" Rory bellowed as she walked into the house with a rolled-up poster.

"You know where I am!" Lorelai responded from her couch.

"I was leaving the beauty supply store after buying some face cream and I saw Kirk putting these up," she unrolled the poster to show her mother a blown-up picture of Rory with a crown on top of her head.

"Oh, my god!" Lorelai snorted and asked, "What is that?"

"Taylor took it upon himself to make me the Soda Shoppe's Ice Cream Queen," Rory explained in a panic frenzy.

"Do you get free ice cream? Can you bring some for me?" Lorelai's mind went towards the perks.

"Mom! No! He didn't ask me about this! I am moving in to Yale this weekend and the opening is tomorrow! I don't have time for this! Why didn't he ask me?" Rory wondered out loud.

"Ok, Sweetie, calm down. Did you talk to Taylor about this?" Lorelai asked, hoping to find a solution.

"No, I came straight here because I am so mad!"

"Did you get any other errand done?" Lorelai inquired, frowning when she saw a single bag in her hands.

Rory shook her head no.

"Rory! We don't have much time here. With me out of commission, I need you stop getting distracted and focus. I have to make sure you get everything you need without me, Rory!" Lorelai got frustrated.

"I know, mom! But this!" She held up the poster again.

Lorelai grabbed the poster from her hand to get a better look at it. "Where did Taylor find this picture of you anyway?"

"No idea. He's like a major stalker or something. It was clearly cropped out of town picture of some kind," Rory said as she plopped down next to her mother on the couch.

"Couldn't he find a more flattering picture?" Lorelai scrunched her face in disgust.

"Gee, raise your hand if you're not helping!" Rory snatched the poster away from her mother.

"What, I'm just saying the Ice Cream Queen should have a more flattering picture, a regal picture, if you will."

"Mom!"

"Your Majesty, would you be so kind and grace thy mother with a bowl of frozen delight?" Lorelai said in a British accent.

"Not helping!" She crossed her arms, annoyed.

"You would deny thy mother with children her chilling tasty treat in her condition?" she pouted.

"Oh, stop it!" Rory yelled as she got up and walked back out of the front door, leaving it open when she saw Luke coming in up the porch steps. "Hey Luke."

"Hey, Rory," he greeted back. "Lorelai!" he called out as he shut the door behind him.

"That would be my name, yes," she joked as he took a seat that Rory just emptied. He opened his mouth to say something and then closed his mouth. "Something wrong?"

"Ah," he tried to find the right words, as he got up from the couch and started to pace around the living room.

"Luke, baby, I need words and the floor would appreciate it if you didn't wear a hole into it.

"I-I don't know how to say this," he was finally able to say as he stopped pacing only to start playing with his hands folded together.

"Say what?" Lorelai asked, concerned.

"Maybe we should have Sookie and Jackson here too," Luke resumed pacing.

"You were at the inn, right? Checking on things?" Lorelai tried to piece together what he was trying to say.

"Sookie is an equal partner in this and may have some solutions," Luke nervously ranted.

Lorelai flinched when she realized what Luke was getting ready to tell her. "Luke, did Tom say something?" she cautiously asked.

"Of course, I talked to Tom, I wasn't about to spend time talking to the worker that looked like a member of ZZ Top."

"What exactly did Tom tell you?" Lorelai questioned, starting to lose her patience.

"You already know?" Luke caught on. "Why were you hiding it?" He pointedly asked.

"Well, Sookie is pregnant too, Jackson just bought new farm equipment and they are saving to buy a minivan," Lorelai started to explain.

"Lorelai, you haven't paid Tom in nearly a month!" He barked.

"I know!" She covered her face with her hands.

"Tom said he's kept it going for as long as he could, but he's stalled the workers have realized that their paychecks have become smaller and smaller. They are going to stop showing up soon!" Luke yelled out in frustration.

"I know! I am out of money, Luke!" Lorelai confessed, her voice matching his. "I have nothing left! These twins better stay in my warm cozy womb forever, because come this winter, there is no money for heat!"

"What happened?" He threw his hands up and asked.

"I don't know. I am bad with money. I shouldn't have this kind of responsibility," she reasoned.

"Lorelai, seriously," his voice softened. He took a seat next to Lorelai as she scooted over a little to her right to make room for him. Luke placed a hand on her thigh closest to him.

"Everything I budgeted for ended up being more expensive. Then the roof of the stable needed more repair than first quoted. Sookie bought this exotic stove that had a pricey delivery charge. It got out of hand and now I'm short! I just thought I had everything under control, but I didn't, and the inn is just falling apart. This has been my dream forever, and I have it, and it's here, and I'm failing." by the end she was in tears.

"You are not failing!" he reassured her by pulling her close him, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. His hand gently rubbing tiny circles on her arm. "Short how much?"

"About thir- "she turned her head to face the pillow to muffle the rest of the amount.

"What was that?" She muttered the number again.

"Get your face out of the pillow and tell me the amount," Luke yelled, a lot louder than he intended.

"Ugh! Fine! Thirty thousand dollar," Lorelai raised her voice.

"Thirty thou- ok, wow," he tried to act surprised.

"He told you, didn't he?"

"Yup," he didn't hesitate to answer.

"Then why did you make me go through all of this?" she cried out.

"Paid him too," he revealed to her.

"What? Luke! Why would you do that?" The anger in her voice not hidden.

"What no 'thank you'?"

"What in your brain said, 'Oh, Lorelai needs money, let me just pay it without asking her'?"

"He was going to shut it down tomorrow! I didn't know what else to do? Why didn't you talk to me about it?"

"Because Luke, it was my problem. The inn was my dream and I am failing!" Lorelai explained, loudly.

"This is what caused all that stress a few weeks. You were worried about the money. Lorelai, you ended up in the hospital! You put yourself and the babies at risk for danger. I can't lose either of you three, so I did what I thought to fix the problem. Temporarily," he added at the end.

"So, you didn't give Tom $30,000?" Lorelai asked.

"I wrote him a check with an amount to keep it going longer until we came up with the solution. We are married, we share the problems now!"

"Aww, Luke! You're my hero!" her mood quickly shifted to happy.

"Jeez, these hormones are something else. Mad, happy, sad, mad, I never know what to do these days!"

"Hey! Be nice to me," she hit him playfully, but ended up being harder than she thought.

"Ow! What the hell?"

"Sorry, I didn't mean for it to be that hard," she told him as she gently rubbed the spot on the arm she hit him.

Luke decided to ask, "So what were you planning on doing? Wait Tom out?"

"Ok, straight to the serious talk," Lorelai joked.

Luke continued, "You can't avoid it forever. We have to come up with a solution."

"As long as I am trapped on this couch, yes, I can avoid it," she pointed out.

"Lorelai!" He frustrated cried out.

"Luke!" She mimicked his tone.

"Fine, if you don't have a solution, I am going back to the inn to give Tom the rest of the money because someone has to be here making all of the decisions. Not like I have a life or diner to run," Luke decided.

"Hey, no one is telling you do that. This is my problem!" Lorelai got defensive.

"It's not just your problem! I just told you we share them now. What am I supposed to do? Just ignore everything happening?" Luke countered.

"What 'everything'?"

"This chaos that I have created it!" he exclaimed.

"You're gonna have to clue me in on what you are talking about."

"This," he gestured around him. "You twirled your hair and I got you pregnant! Hell, I married you and I can't even remember a damn moment of it! Then you get put on bedrest! Things at the inn are going to hell without you. Your partner is also pregnant. I am back to living at my old house. Rory is moving to Yale this weekend and I have to go move her in. I haven't been to the diner in over three days! Maybe the list of what isn't chaos is shorter!" He huffed, the vein in his forehead bulging out.

"I'm sorry this whole situation sucks for you, but I have two human beings growing inside me competing for who can make me lose control of my bladder first. My back hurts, my feet are killing me and I'm not even using them! I am stuck on the couch while things at my inn is basically hitting the iceberg. I promised my daughter a trip of a lifetime. I promised her Europe, Luke! And I had to tell her maybe next year. We both know next year isn't gonna happen! I'll have infant twins to take care of. I am going to miss her moving into college and I am doing everything I can to keep a positive attitude about it because I can't go back all those months and change the fact we slept together and created this 'chaos' as you put it! So if you want out, then leave!" she shouted, leaving herself a bit surprised at what she said.

"Lorelai, no-" Luke attempted to protest.

Lorelai continued, "Oh, right it's your house, so I guess I should leave," she started to get up from the couch by using both hands to push off the armrest.

"No, Lorelai, that's not what I mean. Lorelai, sit back down," Luke calmly spoke.

"It's all 'I love you, Lorelai. I want to be with you, Lorelai. I want to be there for you and help you, Lorelai. Let me give you a house, Lorelai. I'll take care of us, Lorelai,' but in the end, you're all the same. I don't need you and if that means I have to give up my dreams and the inn to raise these babies. Then that is what I am going to do," she angrily spat at him.

"Lorelai, no. I'm sorry," he tried to reach for her hand as she briskly walked passed him towards the front door.

"Go back to your diner, Luke," she told him.

"Lorelai that's not what I want," Luke searched for the right words, "I didn't mean it like that. Where are you going?" He followed her.

"Anywhere but here." She slammed the door behind her, leaving Luke at a loss of words with his hands on his hips.

-X-

"Lorelai, what are you doing here?" Sookie asked when she opened her front door to see her best friend.

"Can I borrow your couch, indefinitely?" she sheepishly asked.

"Only if you don't mind sharing it," she said and stepped aside to let her in. Lorelai slowly made her way through the door and over to the living room couch. "Sweetie, what are you doing out of bed?" Sookie asked, her voice full of concern.

"Luke and I, we had a fight, wait, we broke up. I think- I'm not sure. I just can't stay there," she tried to explained as she made her way over to the couch.

"What do you mean you aren't sure?" Sookie tried to piece together.

"I am depending on him too much," she revealed.

"He is your husband. You're supposed to depend on him," she pointed out.

"Oh, Sookie, this was bad. He was going on and on about how he has been spending more time doing things for the me instead of the diner. The inn, moving Rory in to Yale, and not being at the diner anymore," Lorelai explained into her friend.

"Well, it's not like he is letting you do anything. The last time I was over there, he wouldn't even let you reach of to get the TV remote."

"Sookie, things at the inn are falling apart!" she dropped the bomb.

"What do you mean? Things seem to be progressing, Tom told me he has the phones up and running."

"We don't have any money left!" she exclaimed, the tears threatening to fall from her eyes.

"For the inn?"

"I haven't been able to get Tom any checks. He told Luke today that he is going to have to shut it down soon."

"Are we dead broke?" Lorelai nodded in response. "Well, we'll start cutting corners. I mean, I don't need that big, fancy stove from France. We'll skip that."

"No way!" Lorelai vehemently objected.

"It's too expensive, and I don't want it that much," she tried to convincingly argue.

"Sookie, you have not one but two pictures of that stove in your wallet. You're getting that stove. But we could drop the horses," Lorelai suggested.

"Desi and Cletus, over my dead body," Sookie vetoed.

"Well, the upkeep is astronomical. Maybe if we drop one of the horses."

"And who's making that choice, Sophie?" Sookie raised her eyebrows in question.

"How about Jackson? Would he be willing to put up anything?" Lorelai asked, hesitant.

"He just bought a bunch of new farm equipment. He's strapped. Are you suddenly on super-fantastic terms with your parents?" Sookie wondered, knowing it would be a longshot.

"If by fantastic, you mean are we as close as that one-armed surfer girl and the shark, then yes."

"Then what about Luke?"

"No," she stubbornly denied.

"What? Why not?"

"Because he just wrote Tom a check to keep it going a little longer. This is what started the fight. He has already done so much. No more. This isn't his thing. It is mine. I'm not taking any more money from him."

"Hey, this is my thing too! So what, no more inn? Luke loses it one time in the last what eight months and you decide it's over. You guys always fight, even before. You guys are friends and you fight all the time. Luke has the money. Why can't you let him help us?" Sookie pouted.

"Because he doesn't want to."

"He paid Tom to tie him over," she pointed out.

Lorelai looked down at her hand and sadly spoke, "And he is completely regretting everything now."

"Ok, let's take a step back. What exactly did Luke say?" Sookie cautiously asked.

"It's not what he said. It's how he said it," she stubbornly explained.

"Oh, goodness. Lorelai. Tell me what he said so we can fix this."

"Again, not what he said, but-"

"How he said it, yes, Sweetie, I heard you the first time," Sookie interrupted impatiently.

"He said he has created chaos. That our life right now is in chaos and it was all his fault. It was his fault that he has to do everything and make all of the decisions."

"He was blowing off some steam after a stressful day. He didn't mean any of it. Who else is he supposed to let it off to? You're his wife."

"I didn't choose to be his wife," she confessed.

"And you didn't choose to get divorce either," Sookie pointed out. "That makes you his wife. A few weeks ago, you were fawning over him and that great first date he took you on, how he told you to take all the time you need to get to the place where he is at. You told him you loved him. Lorelai, from pregnant friend to pregnant friend, we are so nutty right now, we can't make ration decisions. And you are supposed to be calm right now. Those babies need you to calm down and take a breath. We want to keep them in there," she tried to reason.

Lorelai's face relaxed before her eyes widen. "Oh, Sookie, I messed up," she realized how crazy she had been acting. "I'm been trapped in the house. I feel so helpless. My baby is leaving me and I feel like I'm not paying enough attention to her. And poor Luke has been trying to be the glue holding together our house made with a foundation of straw. I am such a horrible selfish person!" she cried.

"You're not horrible," Sookie assured her friend. "You're just hormonal and crabby. You said it yourself, you've been trapped indoors. No one can really blame you."

"What do I do to fix this? How do you and Jackson stay married?"

"Marriage takes work, Lorelai. You both need to be willing to give and take. Jackson drives me nuts sometimes. In the mornings after he showers, there is a trail of wet towels around the whole floor. I've yelled at him over a dozen time this week alone about it but nothing. That's just something I am going to have to pick up after him. I'm sure there a bunch of things I do that drive him crazy. Probably how after over year of marriage, I still don't let him load the dishwasher."

"Sookie, you don't even let Jackson into the kitchen."

"That makes him furious because he loves to cook as much as I do. Oh! I know! I know what you can do for Luke! Oh, my gosh! He is going to love it! He is going to plotz!" She said has she went into the kitchen.

"Sookie, want to fill me in here?" she asked eagerly to find out her friend's solution and followed her.

"Oh, I can imagine it now!"

"Sookie."

"He won't even see it coming!" She excitedly continued.

"Sookie!" she yelled to snap her out of it.

"What?"

"Want to clue me in on this plan? After all I have to carry it out."

"Cook Luke a romantic dinner. Just the two of you!"

"Sookie, I don't cook! And I can't be standing for long periods."

"Oh, right," Sookie frown, finding a gap in her plan.

"Oh!" I will do all the cooking. I will bring the food mostly prepped for you. Is your oven working?"

"Yes," she answered.

"Good, all you will have to do now is look pretty, get a little sweet, hidden apology ready. Maybe strategically place some pillows near you when you are on the floor on your knees-"

"Sookie!"

"What, I was going to say growling, but you know what the other thing might work even better."

"Oy vey!"

Suddenly, there was a series of three heavy knock on the door, pulling the girls out of their conversation. Sookie went to the door to answer it. She pulled it open to see a nervous looking Luke, using his right hand to lean against the door frame.

"Is she here?" he asked. Sookie saw his eyes genuinely expressing some concern with a hint of rage.

"Yeah, but-" Sookie was interrupted by Luke pushed his way through the door before she could finish.

"Lorelai! Are you okay?" Luke immediately asked as he rounded the foyer and kneeled in front of her.

"I am sorry, Luke! I am so sorry!" Lorelai cried.

"Are you okay?" Luke asked again, reaching for her hands to hold in his.

"I'm fine. Luke, I'm fine, but for today, you are done. Go to the diner today, go fishing or something," Lorelai told him.

"What no? I have to take you home first and make sure you are completely okay. With everything. With me, the inn, Rory, the babies, you. Everything."

"But the diner-"

"The diner has Caesar, Lane, and the others. It's still standing. It'll be fine," he squeezed her hands to reassure her.

"But earlier-"

"Lorelai, earlier I was panicked and freaking out more about the inn and I just sort of-"

"Lost it?"

"Yeah, I did," he agreed.

"Luke, Hun, I need you know that I appreciate everything you are doing. You're wearing all the hats perfectly balanced on your head along with your baseball cap. I understand that I should tell you more often that I am not taking you for granted. And I am so sorry for making you feel the way you were. But really, go to the diner. Go be Luke pre- hurricane Lorelai, category 5, hitting the shore."

"But, what about you, the inn, Rory?"

"You took care the inn for now and I'll tell Jess to keep Rory calm. Sookie and Jackson will make sure I get home. Just be home for dinner."

"You are not going to cook anything, are you? Because it would be easier if I just set the house on fire before I go back to the diner."

"Don't worry your pretty head. I am sorry for crazy, hormonal me. Please be home for dinner," Lorelai flashed him a sweet apologetic smile.

"Are you sure?"

"Go be hermit today, Luke. We'll worry about the inn," she gestured between her and Sookie.

"And you are really going to be home when I get home, right?" Luke asked.

"Yes, I will be home," she nodded.

"Ok, good. I'm just making sure," Luke squeezed her hand, before leaning in a giving her a quick peck on the lips.

"Bye, Hun." She said as he got up off the floor. He hesitated before he let go of her hands and headed towards the door.

"Aww, look at you two! So much love!" Sookie gushed as soon as the door closed behind Luke.

"Oh please."

"If Jackson looked at me half the way Luke looks at you, angry or exhausted. I would be completely smitten."

"Sookie, Jackson does look at you that way, always. You have pregnancy glasses on. I think I did too earlier, hence this mess," she reassured her friend.

"Should we head back to your place?" Sookie asked.

"As long as you are okay with me borrowing your couch for a while. I can be couch potato girl over here today. Keep you some company and it gets me out of the house."

"Oh goodie! I can have you be my own personal taster for the meal I make for you for Luke."

"Sold! What are you going to make?"

-X-

-Later That Evening-

"Lorelai? I'm home as requested," Luke called out as he entered through the front door of their home.

"Come into the kitchen," he heard Lorelai's voice.

"Okay," he said as he made his way through the house and into the kitchen

When he walked into the kitchen, he saw the light dimmed with two candles light in the centered of their dining table along with two place setting covered with silver lids.

"What's all this?" he asked.

"A real apology."

"Lorelai, you don't have to."

"But I want to. I want you to know that I know how crazy I have been. I've been acting more sensitive," she confessed.

"I'll say," Luke added.

"Hush, it's mine turn to talk. I am grateful for everything you have done for me, even before all of this with Rory. I know you do it because you care about us so much, but I probably don't tell you this as much as I should. I care about you too. I love you. Since we've moved into this house, started to build a life together, I feel happy, even in this mess. I am happy and the only other time I can remember feeling like this was when I was holding Rory in my arms as baby. I love you and I want this to work. I've been sitting on the couch for a very long time with a lot of time to think so much time that I freaked myself out. What if this isn't long-term and we end up divorced? I have to raise twins by myself? And then the inn, what if it doesn't happen because I'll be raising twins on my own and I don't have any money? I-"

"Lorelai, stop," he interjected, walking towards her. "I love you, too. And I'm sorry too. I'm not leaving, ever. You don't have to do this by yourself. We are going to fight. Our relationship is fighting and bickering. I need you and the babies in one piece, healthy," he placed his hands on her belly.

"One more thing," it was Lorelai's time to interrupted. "Sookie and I talked about it, and we think we would like for you to inn invest in the inn if you still want to, that is."

"Whatever you need for your dreams," he simply responded, placing a soft kiss on her temple.

"So you forgive me for my nuttiness?"

"You're not nutty, you're crazy, hormonal, and you are mine," he told her as he inched close to her to capture her lips.

"No, you're mine," she leaned in and kissed him square on the lips.

Luke pulled back, resting his forehead on hers, asking, "So what's for dinner?"

"Oh, my god, you're gonna love it!" Lorelai gushed as she took a seat and opened fancy silver plate cover.

After the two shared the delicious meal Sookie had prepared for them including of Sookie's special recipe of baked chicken glazed apricot jam over wild rice, roasted veggies, and a side salad. For dessert, there was a special carrot cake which not only Luke, but also Lorelai thoroughly enjoyed. After dinner, Luke insisted Lorelai reclaim her spot on the couch. He took a seat next to her, automatically reaching to place her legs in his lap.

"Look at your ankles," he pointed to the swollen ankles. "This is why you aren't supposed to be standing up." He began to gently massage her feet.

"You're too good for me," she smiled as she told him.

"I can stop," Luke teased.

"Noo!" he continued, a slight grin creeping onto his face.

Lorelai looked at him before she asked, "So fight over?"

"Yup," he nodded.

"I really am sorry," she apologized again.

"I know and I'm sorry too."

"And you really have no problem investing in the inn?" Lorelai asked for the umpteenth time.

"I think my money will be safe," Luke assured her.

"I am still going to write up something official tomorrow. I'll get Rory to get my old typewriter out tomorrow."

"You don't have to do that."

"I want it. We need to make it official! That's the only way Sookie agreed to this." She insisted.

"Ok, but it's totally unnecessary. I believe in you and inn."

"And after the house is sold and the rest of the mortgage is pay off, I'll start paying you back."

"Again, not necessary."

"I'm still gonna do it," Lorelai told him.

"I'll drop off the check to Tom so the inn can meet its deadline," Luke changed the subject.

"Thank you. Kiss," he leaned in to give her a quick peck on the lips.
