Normal POV:
She looks up at him. But not too much. She isn't much taller than he is, though she used to be taller. He had grown about three inches over the summer and now, she is the shorter one. Though, not necessarily the thinner one, though both could be listed as 'possible eating disorder victims'. 'Isn't it weird?' She asks, softly, still staring at him. He looks up, meeting her gaze.
'And what is weird?' He asks her. She smiles.
'This situation. You. Me. Here, actually having a civilized conservation.' This time, he smiles at her and she can't help but go pink in the cheeks.
'This is kind of weird. Yet, you are weird.' He smirks at her now. She moves back, distancing the space between them. He sits up, properly now. 'I'm… sorry. I didn't mean…'
'It's okay. It's alright.' He reaches out to brush a strand of hair out of her eyes, but she jerks back.
'I don't think it's alright.' She shakes her head.
'It is.'
'Then why are you moving away every time I go near you?' He asks, staring at her.
'I'm…'
'You're what?' He asks, though this time it's harsher.
'Afraid.' He looks at her. 'Of you. Hurting my feelings.' His face softens.
'Why would I do that?'
'Because, this could all be some sick joke that you and your friends came up with to torment my feelings!' She closes the notebook in front of her. 'I… have to go.' She slips the pen into the spiral of the notebook.
'Hils… you don't have to go.' She looks at him.
'Yes, I do.' She stands up and walks away. 'Good bye.' He stares after her for a few seconds. He bolts up, and runs after her.
'Hils!' He calls out after her. She stops. She turns her head to look at him. He reaches her. He grabs her arm and spins her around. 'This isn't a joke.'
'How can I trust you?' She asks, looking at his hand gripping onto her arm.
'If this was some kind of joke, my friends would've already come out of their hiding spots. This. Is. Not. A. Joke! How could this be a joke? Do you want it to be a joke?' He asks, looking at her in the eyes. She shakes her head.
'No…' She whispers. 'Then it would be too hard to let go of these feelings.' He lets go of her arm. He lifts his hand, and brushes her cheek.
'Feelings have a funny way of coming out.' He whispers into her ear. He pulls back to face her. 'Like this…' Pulling her in close, he presses his lips against hers.
