Little scurrying sounds beneath the floor alerted the Yagami household to all their impromptu guests save one.
"Oh, ew!" shrieked Sayu as she saw Sachiko taking traps out of a paper sack. "We have mice? Ewww!"
(Good thing the human female can't see me, Ryuk thought, amused.)
"For heaven's sake, Sayu, get a hold of yourself." Sachiko sighed. "All old houses have them now and again, especially during the winter. We can—"
"The traps we got will get them, for sure," Light interjected, smiling at his sister. "They go for the cheese, and then—" He made a snap! motion with his hands.
"Down it comes!" A giggle. "Bye-bye, mice!"
"Mm-hmm." Light brushed a strand of hair out of Sayu's face, then waved. "For sure, vermin always get caught. Don't worry." –and scaled the stairs to his room to go and do homework.
Vermin always get caught, huh, Ryuk remarked as Light sat down at his desk, pencil at the ready. You think so?
Now they will, said Light with a faint smirk. That's the mission of Kira.
…You're kind of vermin-like yourself, Light. Ryuk cocked his head and did a handstand, wide inhuman eyes staring. You know?
Light just raised an eyebrow, shook his head slightly, and went back to work.
