Cordelia's head dropped to her chest. "This wasn't supposed to happen!" She screamed in frustration. "Why? Why did he have to die?" She sank to her knees and began again, quieter. "I died. Wasn't that enough?" She demanded of The Powers before a white glow enveloped her and The Powers cast her back to Earth.
A high buzz of an alarm clock sounded in Cordelia's head. Her eyes drifted open, took in the sunlight, and snapped back shut. She moaned and rolled back over to turn off the alarm. A moment of calm subsided before Cordelia's eyes opened with panic and she became fully awake. She looked at the clock, her clothes, and finally her room. She was back in Sunnydale and back in time.
His own tormented screams woke Angel from his slumber. He shook violently and tried to clear his head in order to wrap his mind around what just happened. He remembered fighting, dying, and just before his skin turned to dust, he thought of her. The woman he loved with all his soul and non-beating heart, Cordelia. As he thought of her, his pulse quickened, which scared him because he had not had a pulse in over two hundred years… until then.
It was twenty minutes before the first class of the day and the regular crew was assembled in the library. Buffy absentmindedly twirled a stake. Willow was talking to Giles about a new book on demons. Xander sat in a chair, thinking about food… and Buffy… and Cordelia. Angel walked through the doors of the library. Everyone noticed and stopped what they were doing, wondering why he was here at this time of morning.
"Something's wrong." Angel said shakily. As the words came out, the library doors swung open again to reveal a Cordelia Chase from previous years decked out in tight jeans and a tight black top with matching boots.
"Guys?" She yelled, before even getting through the doorway.
Angel turned and their eyes locked. "Oh my god." Angel and Cordelia both said at once, walking to each other, stopping only inches away.
"You're back." Angel said, reaching out and touching her face.
"You're alive." Cordelia said, a tear sliding down her perfect bone structure.
"What's going on?" Buffy asked, completely taken aback, disturbed and jealous of the intimacy being displayed.
This went unnoticed to both Angel and Cordelia as they slowly leaned towards each other, closing the remaining distance. Their lips met and a bright light came from within Cordelia, lighting up the whole room. Their kiss deepened and the light intensified until they broke apart.
"Let me rephrase that- What the HELL is going on?"
