Naruto would never know that he was loved by the Fourth Hokage.
He hadn't known that he was born as the secret son of Yondaime. He had not seen his father pace up and down the corridor waiting for his birth. He did not know that the fourth had not been there to witness the delivery as he had to rush out of the hospital and save the village.
The price of being Hokage.
Naruto had not known that his mother had died in childbirth and had only seen him once before she had died. He had not known that she held him tightly in her final breaths before closing her eyes. No regrets.
He would never know what she had looked like. The curve of her smile. The sound of her voice. The twist of her auburn hair. Never feel the warmth of her embrace or see the tender love in her eyes.
Naruto would never know that when the hokage had held him in his arms it would be the last and first time he would ever do so. Never remember the tears that had been shed upon his forehead as he realised what he must do to save everyone.
He had kissed his son upon his forehead as he stood before the feared beast before sealing the demon into his beloved son's body. A final goodbye before he left.
Naruto had been in the arms of the dead Hokage before Copy nin Kakashi had taken him out of his arms.
Naruto would never know that he had been loved, as the villagers, stupid and ignorant, chose to ignore his presence and his existence. He would only curse the one that had placed the fox inside of him. Not knowing that as everyday passed he would look more and more like the one he despised.
Naruto Uzumaki would never know.
