Title: One Last Thing

Rating: K+

Pairing: Ryella

Summary: It's been 4 years since Ryan's death, and Gabriella reflects, the night of their daughter Sasha's 9th dance recital.

Gabriella Montez sat in the very familiar auditorium of East High School looking at the closed red curtain covering the stage.

This was a special night for more than one reason, it was Sasha Gabriella Evans's ninth dance recital, and the anniversary of Ryan Evans's death.

Gabriella thought back to about two hours before now when she was getting Sasha ready.

"Hey mom." Sasha asked.

"Huh?" Gabriella replied, as she continued to pull her daughters wavy golden locks into two elegant French braids.

"Which of my dances is your favorite?" she asked.

This was an easy one for her, for this year, the junior competition lyrical number was dancing to a song called, "We'll Be Together." It was her and Ryan's song, it played at their wedding and everything. The most important thing about that dance was when the music struck boldly at one of the last moments in the song and all seven girls did a Grande Jete across the floor. Every time Gabriella saw Sasha swing herself around in mid air and throw up her hands to execute the jump perfectly, she saw Ryan. She would smile with just as much "Gusto" as he had once done.

"We'll Be Together." She smiled down at her.

Sasha fixed the colorful flower head piece that fixed into the side of her hair and looked into the hand mirror.

Her faint smile morphed into a sorrowful look, "Daddy." She said.

Gabriella simply nodded.

It hurt her to think of the look Sasha would have on her face when the dad's of the dance academy would come and do their "daddy dance".

Gabriella would resolve in pointing out the fact that her uncle, Troy, was up their, for her.

Sasha would smile and yell for Troy as the beat of the Rolling Stone's medley boomed out of the speakers.

Gabriella stared as the curtain opened to see Sasha and her class down on the ground about to begin their ballet number.

When the music began all of the girls began by raising one hand to the sky and watching it as they did it.

Gabriella's eyes watered, the look that Sasha had on her face when she began that dance was so Ryan it wasn't even funny. Sasha's blue eyes would focus in so seriously, it almost looked like she knew Ryan was watching her.

She smiled as she thought of the ad that Troy had put in the program booklet for Sasha.

It had an old picture of her and Ryan and then a new picture of her and Troy.

It read:

Congratulations Sasha Gabriella Evans!
You know your daddy would be proud of you.

You are a beautiful dancer and we all wish you the best of luck tonight!

Way to go "Mini Sharpay"

Love,

Mom, Uncle Troy, Auntie Sharpay, and Dad.

As the night went on, Gabriella saw Ryan over and over in Sasha, in jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, modern, everything.

Gabriella knew that even though Ryan was gone, she would always have one piece of him left.
