A/N: So Updates. I have really had a problem going in the right direction for the end of this story. Each chapter I write, I'm so critical of, so it takes me a long time to post it. I'm sorry for that. Of course reviews are always great. I hope everyone enjoys this chapter. Thanks xoxo TBG

Chapter Recap…..

Since Dolohov was unconscious, Draco used his wand to create ropes which bound Dolohov, then the three boys dragged him into a broom cupboard and locked the door. Seamus had swiped Dolohov's wand and snapped it in two. As they ran down the hallway, Seamus tossed the remnants into an empty classroom.

Draco was afraid, not for himself but for Hermione. Never had Draco ever really felt fear for anyone other than himself, but sweat hit his brow as he thought of Hermione. He had no idea where she was and as he made his way up the next flight of stairs, Draco's eyes widened at the chaos and desolation around him. His fear nearly crippled him as he looked around, he needed to find Hermione, and he needed to find her now.

Chapter 26: Goodbye

It seemed like the castle was crumbling all around them as Draco with his wand up, moved into the thick of the fight. Spells were flying everywhere, and bodies had already begun to litter the floor. Draco could see injured students with the dead and all of the Death Eaters taken down were dead. Draco glanced at the Death Eaters to see if his father was one of them, but he did not see his Lucius's face.

Then he searched intently in the students, but none of them were Hermione. Draco sighed slightly in relief. He knew that because she was with Harry that he wouldn't let anything happen to her. He was afraid because she was not with him, so he couldn't see and feel her. He couldn't know on his own that she was alright, he had to go on faith at the moment.

A spell flew right past the tip of his nose and Ron grabbed him as another flew right where his head had been a moment before. Ron aimed his wand a shot a spell at the Death Eater who had attacked them.

The spell hit the wizard squarely in the chest and the Death Eater fell in a lump. Ron patted Draco on the back.

"I guess they know what side you've chosen now," Ron said. Draco nodded and threw a few spells at a trio of Death Eaters who were fighting one woman with mousy brown hair. One of his spells hit the tallest Death Eater in the face. The woman noticed and threw one of her own spells at the shortest of the fighters. They fell in a heap as the woman turned her wand on the last one. He snarled and pulled out a pair of claws, but Draco threw his spell at him as she quickly threw her spell as well. Both spells hit the creature and it flew across the room, smashing into the wall and stirring no more.

The woman turned around and Draco realized it was Tonks. She ran over and patted his shoulder quickly and moved right back into the fighting, taking on creature that Draco could not make out from his distance. Draco jumped in front of a short male 7th year student who was struggling against a ragged looking wizard. Draco's quick spellwork helped take down the wizard as the student went off to fight a Death Eater.

A large crash right beside Draco threw him partway across the room. He had to struggle to get up as rubble had fallen all over him. When he was able to pull himself out of the rubble, he could hear screams. He looked at the large hole that was now in the castle as a Giant looked into the hallway.

Draco stumbled up and began to yell in warning as the Giant reached one large hand into the hole. Draco tackled an older Hogwarts student as the Giant's hand swiped and caught hold of the Death Eater she had been battling. The Giant lifted the Death Eater and pulled them out of the hall. The Death Eater's yells could be heard as he was taken. Once out of sight, a crack was heard and the silence of the moment rang loudly.

The girl sat up and looked around. She shook some dust out of her hair.

"Thank you," she said. Draco nodded in response as she stood and carefully made her way back into the fight, eyeing the hole warily. Draco was watching the hole as well. He didn't want to get caught in the grip of a giant.

As the group made it back to Gryffindor Tower, they realized that many of the students were there nursing wounds or helping each other patch up injuries. Hermione looked around quickly but didn't see the patch of white blonde hair that she was looking for.

She turned to Harry and she could see the worry reflected in his eyes.

"The others aren't back." Harry nodded at her statement.

"They could've gotten pulled into the fight. It has to end though. I have to end it Hermione," Harry whispered. Hermione pursed her lips and pulled Harry into a corner.

"You don't have to do this alone. We can all help. Let me help you. Let us help you, you have friends so you don't have to do this alone." Harry looked worried. This was his best friend, who was risking her life for him. He took Hermione's hands and kissed them. She smiled and squeezed back.

"Let's go find Draco and Ron and finish this," Hermione whispered. Harry nodded and the two of them, with Dean and Neville left Gryffindor Tower.

Hermione, Neville, Dean and Harry made their way down to the main floor of the castle. The sound of the ensuing battle was overwhelming as they got closer to the Great Hall. Pieces of the castle were lying in heaps and gaping holes in the wall and ceilings were visible as the group ran by.

As they ran, they could just start making out bodies of the injured. Hermione couldn't help but wonder if Draco was ok and that he wasn't among the people she was running past.

A gust of wind caught their robes as they ran past a huge hole in one of the hallways. Hermione didn't want to know what had made that hole but she knew it could be nothing good.

Everything was in shambles and the fighting was bloody. It looked almost like the good side was losing. Hermione searched and her eyes caught sight of white blond. She quickly moved through the fray toward Draco. She saw a Death Eater who had caught sight of him point their wand at his back. Hermione with lightning speed flung a spell that threw the Death Eater back against a wall and knocked them unconscious. Under the mask a strand of white blond fell free.

Hermione didn't have time to realize what that meant, as she threw spells at Death Eaters. She ran past and threw a spell at the one Death Eater Draco was fighting.

The spell spun the Death eater through the air and out a hole in the wall. Their shouts were heard as they fell down the long length of the castle. Draco turned and as he realized it was Hermione, he caught her in his arms as she ran into him.

They sunk down together for a moment, Draco kissing Hermione everywhere he could touch and Hermione almost crying in relief. He squeezed her tightly and then pulled back enough to kiss her properly. She kissed him back and then pulled away as a rumble shook the floor beneath them.

They looked around and then moved into a crouching stance to protect themselves from the flying spells.

"You're alright?" He asked as he held her hand. Hermione nodded, as she touched a bloody spot on Draco's hairline.

"You?" He smiled and nodded.

"C'mon we need to get to some sort of shelter away from all of this," he shouted. They basically crawled their way to a wall to a small enclave.

"Its much too crazy down here for us to stay long. I haven't seen the Dark Lord at all this entire time. He's been sending everyone else and has not come himself. I don't know if he's just waiting to see if everyone other than Harry will be killed so he can have a clear shot." Hermione nodded as she looked at the fight happening.

Harry was in it, fighting his hardest as he always did. Hermione turned back to Draco.

"We need help. We can't win just like this." As Hermione said this, a cry was heard in the distance. It pierced the fighters' ears and they all began to stop and looked toward the castle grounds. It sounded like a stampede was coming toward the castle.

Suddenly hoards of centaurs and house elves with kitchen utensils, knives, rolling pins, forks, branches and all sort of items came in and overtook the fight.

The centaurs attacked using their own weapons, taking Death Eaters and dark wizards down as they stampeded through the hall.

The Hogwarts students and scattered Order members smiled and continued with their fights.

Draco gripped Hermione's hand as a spell flew at them from behind Hermione. She saw the spell coming and pushed Draco away from her. She luckily dodged the spell, but she fell over in the process. She looked over at the Death Eater.

Hermione threw a spell at the Death Eater. It hit the Death Eater in the face but the mask they had on absorbed the spell. The Death Eater ripped the mask off and Hermione recognized the twisted features of Lucius Malfoy. His eyes glittered in malice at Hermione and something in her knew he was going to kill her if she didn't kill him. Hermione threw another spell before she scrambled up and away.

She felt the heat of two spells as they went past her ear. Hermione could smell her hair singe from the heat. She flew behind a column as a spell hit where she'd been standing. A downpour of rubble fell on Hermione and she huddled with her wand in hand. Fear gripped her belly.

Hermione had looked over at Draco as she had fled, and he seemed to have been knocked out from the fall he had had when she pushed him. She didn't have time to go and help him with Lucius on her heels.

A cackle flew threw the air as Lucius threw another spell. A powerful one that shook the column Hermione was behind.

"Come out here mudblood. You took my son and defiled him. You will pay for that. Come out and face me!"

Hermione tightened her hand around her wand and stepped out. She locked eyes with Lucius.

"So be it. It's your funeral," she said. He looked at her, and his eyes looked back at Draco for a moment, who was still laying on the ground. Hermione let herself glance at Draco as well. He seemed to be regaining consciousness, but very slowly.

Hermione tightened her hand around her wand again. She could still remember what had happened in his household when she'd been captured. All that Lucius had made Draco do. Even though Draco hadn't hurt her, he'd been forced to do something against his will by his father. She didn't want to kill Lucius because he was Draco's father but if it came to that, she would do what she needed to.

Hermione waited, she could wait always if she needed to. She knew the best way to fight him was to wait for his first move and then work from there. She wasn't stupid enough to show what she was going to do so quickly.

Lucius, suddenly threw his spell at her, and Hermione who was still quick on her feet, swung around dodging the spell and throwing her own at the same time.

They continued to throw spell after spell at one another. Lucius kept on catching parts of the castle, which would come cascading down on Hermione in an effort to crush her. A large piece of rubble did catch her shoulder at one point, causing her to fall.

When she had fallen, she had rolled fast enough to point and shoot another spell at Lucius.

It caught Lucius on the shoulder as he ran at Hermione. But he stopped running for a moment. Hermione tried to stand but he threw another spell at Hermione. She had to duck low to miss this one and this caused her to roll.

When she looked up, Lucius was gone. Hermione knew he was still nearby and she slowly began to turn in the hall, trying to keep an eye on everything. She heard a whisp of robes behind her and she turned quickly, slashing her wand through the air. She caught Lucius again but this time across the chest.

He coughed at the contact, but he had gained his advantage and threw his own spell at her. Hermione felt the impact as the spell threw her back and crashed her into the wall. Lights burst behind her head and she felt something hot slide down her neck. She knew she'd hit her head hard.

Pain was flowing through her whole body. A strong pain flew through her leg as she tried to stand and she had to balance herself on the wall. Lucius was barring down on her and she knew as she saw her wand a few feet away that she would not be able to get it in time.

Blood covered Hermione's robes, as the flow of blood continued to soak her robes. She was feeling a bit lightheaded. She saw Lucius smile and his wand raise.

Suddenly a flash of black robes flew in front of Hermione, shielding her from the blast. She also heard the person yell, "Avada Kedavara!"

Both spells seemed to be released at the same time, and as the killing curse hit Lucius, the curse Lucius had released, intended for Hermione, hit the wizard in front of her. She heard and felt the impact of the spell hitting the wizard's body. He fell and Hermione knelt down as best as she could to look at the wizard.

The face of Snape smiled up at her as blood began to soak his robes from the power of the spell. Hermione caught his face and looked at him. Her hands were already wet with her own blood and she pressed one hand over Snape's wound. Draco ran over and looked at the scene.

Hermione shook her head as tears began to fall. She wouldn't let him die, he'd saved her life.

"You aren't dying, I won't let you. You saved my life," Hermione whispered through her tears.

Snape smiled and placed his hand over Hermione's as it pressed against his wound.

"You had to live for yourself, Draco and the baby. And besides I wanted to make sure the person I loved survived this war." Hermione's tears fell harder.

"You'll survive as well. Don't give up, I can get help." Snape shook his head.

"No, I just want you to live Ms. Granger... just live Mione," he whispered. His eyelids fell and his hand fell away from Hermione's. She gripped his robes tighter and shook him. She continued to shake him, but suddenly she felt arms around her, pulling her up.

"Mione, he's gone," she heard Draco say. Hermione felt her chest constrict and she began to sob as Draco pulled her into his arms. She sobbed hard and then began to fall heavily against him. She was weak from the blood loss and the fight with Lucius. She was injured.

Draco lifted her as gently as he could in his arms and began to run down the hall. Hermione needed help now.

Because of Draco's knowledge of the Castle's secret passageways, he was able to get Hermione up to the hospital wing very quickly and bypassed alot of the battle.

Hermione was falling unconscious as he flew into the hospital wing.

"Madam Pomfrey, please help!"

Draco quickly placed Hermione on a bed as Madam Pomfrey rushed over. Other beds were occupied with other hurt Hogwarts students. Draco caught sight of one of the Weasley twins with a large bandage wrapped around his ear.

He watched as she checked Hermione and then went and grabbed a bottle of potion. It was black as night as she poured it into a goblet for Hermione. Madam Pomfrey quickly used her wand to place a strong bandage against Hermione's head.

"Mr. Malfoy, please lift her up so she can drink the potion. Its a blood tonic to give her back the blood she lost and to heal her as quickly as possible. She should be back to full strength in a few hours." Draco nodded and lifted Hermione up enough for her to drink the potion. She moaned slightly and then Draco gently lay her on the pillows.

At this moment, Madam Pomfrey came over to him, checking him as well. Draco pushed her gentle hand away but then felt a wooziness fall over him. Maybe he was more hurt then he'd thought.

Madam Pomfrey used her strong will to get Draco onto a bed, and take some of the blood potion as well. Even though Draco was supposed to be sleeping and trying to regain strength, he kept sneaking over to Hermione's bed to check on her.

In the next few hours, people would come and go from the wing, some healed and going back into the fight, others who were hurt and needed the healing powers of Madam Pomfrey.

As the clock chimed 9, Hermione slowly came around. Draco could see her eyes fluttering and he crouched closer to her bed and caught her hand. She slowly opened her eyes and then she turned her head to look at Draco.

"Hello beautiful," Draco whispered. Hermione smiled.

"What happened? The last thing I remember was looking into Snape's eyes and-" Draco said nothing as he watched her memory answer her questions. She locked eyes with Draco and he could see the tears glistening in them.

"Is he...?" Draco nodded and kissed Hermione's hand which he was still clutching.

"He did it to protect you. He took the curse from my father and threw his own. He killed my father," Draco whispered. Hermione took a deep breath.

"I owe him my life and I can never repay him," Hermione said as she looked at Draco.

"He cared for you Hermione and that's why he did it. I owe him too. If you and the baby had died, I would've died. He saved all of us."

Hermione didn't say anything to that, she just lay back and stared at the ceiling. Madam Pomfrey took this moment to come over and remove Hermione's bandages. Her head injury was almost completely healed and she seemed to be in almost complete health.

"Now my dear, how is the baby? Any pain or discomfort?" Madam Pomfrey asked. Hermione shook her head.

"When I woke up and spoke to draco, I could feel the baby moving. No pain or discomfort. I think I'm alright." Madam Pomfrey nodded and gave Hermione one more potion to take before she left the wing and then left to tend to more students.

Hermione leaned into Draco and took both of his hands.

"How are you feeling?" Draco was confused.

"I'm fine. I've only been worried about you." Hermione stared at him a moment and then squeezed his hands.

"How are you feeling about your father? He's gone now." Draco hadn't even thought about his father. All he remembered was hearing the evil in his father's voice and watching his father almost kill Hermione. Draco didn't feel sad over his father's death, he just felt it had been time as the evil within his father had been taking over.

"He tried to kill you. He had become pure evil. I'm not sorry he's gone, I'm just glad you are still here." Hermione smiled very lightly and leaned over and kissed Draco.

"Alright. We still need to find Harry and Ron. We need to find the others. I haven't seen Voldemort at all, and we need to draw him out in the open so we can destroy him." Draco nodded in agreement.

"I have no idea where to start though. They could be anywhere on the grounds," Draco said. Hermione nodded and then sat up as she spied something red in another bed.

"Who is that over there? Is that one of the Weasley's?" Hermione asked as she spotted George in a bed a few rows down. Hermione sat up and went over to George's bedside. He seemed to be awake. He turned his head to Hermione and smiled.

"Hiya Hermione," he said cheerfully. George's bandage had been removed and a gaping hole where his ear should've been, stood out prominently against his pale face and red hair.

"George, what happened?"

"Oh this, well a Death Eater threw a curse at me, but as I ducked, it blew off my ear," he said with a grin. He didn't seem at all perturbed over the whole situation.

"Are you alright?" Hermione asked with concern. George smiled and then sat up.

"Right as rain. I can still hear, it just looks a bit distasteful. But I lost everyone in the fray and because I was bleeding so profusely, I was brought up here. I have no idea what's been going on."

"We need to find the others. We need to work out a plan to end this battle," Draco said. George nodded and then grinned. He dug into the inner pockets of his robes and pulled out a piece of parchment. Hermione's eyes widened.

"How did you get the Marauder's map?" Hermione asked. George grinned.

"Harry told George and I to take it, so we could find the other Order members. He wanted us all to meet in Dumbledore's office around 10 tonight."

Hermione nodded and stood up.

"Alright then, if you can leave George, then we better get to work. We only have 30 mins to get everyone to Dumbledore's office."
