This is inspired by the Little Mermaid, told by the other princess. Enjoy and critique!

You spent your years in an aquamarine fantasy of blue and color;

I spent mine as a convent girl with friends and letters for friends.

You saw him once;

I was afraid of him and dreaded the day I would see his face, the face that would rob me of my freedom.

You saw him once;

I read his letters as they came and loved them in spite of myself.

You pulled him in from the sea, sick and weak;

And I was the first one he noticed.

You danced before him on knives and shards, smiling at him with your eyes;

I talked with him, laughed and cried with him.

You are enchantment, a dream being from the waters;

I am just a mortal girl, and also his best friend, real.

You rescued him from drowning;

I watched him live.

You wanted a soul out of the bargain;

I gave him mine and my heart besides and everything else he asked of me.

You were my friend as well, as far as friends go

And I saw the way you looked at him, like a sailor at the lighthouse.

I don't pretend to understand everything about you.

I wish you happiness and peace, whatever happens and next.

But you would die for him, a blade through the heart and hair mixed with foam and moonlight;

I will live with him, for him, loving him, forever.
