Title: Grapefruit
Drabble: #4
TK's prompt: Universe
Randomly selected pairing: Daishiro
Disclaimer: I don't own Digimon.
Notes: I may have got the red shift thing wrong. It's been a while since my last Physics lesson. I also hope grapefruits do grow on trees; I apologise if they don't.
Koushiro had a few theories as to what the universe actually was. First of all, it was constantly expanding. Evidence included 'red shift', which happened with everything that moved. Basically, the further away an object was, the faster it was moving away. It was proof enough.
He believed that planets were formed when atoms of different gases collided, and he agreed that it was gravity which kept the planets in their solar system in orbit. As for the question of there being other forms of intelligent life besides the forms found on Earth, he was open to the idea. The concept of aliens was one which had always fascinated him, and he longed for the day when they decided to make contact.
Daisuke's ideas were less scientific and thought out. He liked to think that the universe was the size and shape of a grapefruit, and that human beings were so tiny that nothing they did really mattered in the long run. When he pictured it, he saw it covered with skin similar to that of a rhino, which was his reasoning behind space being black. He didn't believe in aliens, but he did like the idea of parallel universes. They made up the rest of the grapefruit tree.
Both of them were drawn to the theory that what you couldn't see didn't exist.
Late at night during the warm summer months, the two of them would often lie together in a grassy field and gaze up at the stars. At first, Koushiro had been pleasantly surprised that Daisuke would listen to his theories. Daisuke had been pleasantly surprised that Koushiro wasn't as dull as he'd originally thought.
Before long, Daisuke could safely say that he saw nothing but Koushiro. Therefore, Koushiro was his universe.
It was a little bit more difficult for Koushiro to simply discard all his theories about the universe, but he knew that Daisuke was definitely in the middle of his.
