She was always right beside us, until all three of us left her. Sasuke ran off with Orochimaru, in hopes of killing his elder brother. Naruto went off to train with the Ero-Sanin, and then there was me. I was never there for her when she was a genin, never lending her my shoulder to cry on, and never taking the time to help train her.

As she grew older we became somewhat closer. I was always off saving the village, and she was at the hospital saving lives. Never once did she break down on the job, but those late nights at the bar were her saving grace. She didn't have to pretend to be strong anymore. Alcohol could bring even the strongest shinobi down.

We would sit in each others company late at night, in the back corner of her favorite bar. She would open up to me as long as there was warm sake she would tell me about her losses, and the tears would be streaming down her face. I held all these memories, so that she could move on.

She told me of Sasuke, and how he left her broken on a bench in the pouring rain. She talked about all the promises that Naruto broke when he left the village. She confided in me, after years of ignoring her, and her childish ways.

One night on the way home she told me that I was the one constant thing in her life. With all the people in the hospital dying, and her friends away on missions, I was the only one that remained in the village, unless I was called away. I kept her from breaking apart.

I think that its better for us now, now that time has passed and she is no longer a lovesick genin. She has seen people all around her die, and she has experienced more danger than most of the kunoichi her age, but she holds strong.

We all laugh and we all cry
We all hurt the same inside
We all fall down and we lose faith in who we really are
But if we bend instead of break
The choice for us is to make it together

And when I walk her home each night she lets loose her stone exterior and opens up to me. I am glad that I can finally be there for her.
