Heaven: If There Were A James Severus

The Oneshot

"Prongs! Padfoot! Where are you?" Remus Lupin yelled for his two best friends.

"Up here mate!" Sirius yelled back "come on…the clouds are excellent for tossing today."

Lupin reached them, "Perhaps later, but I have excellent news to tell!" Lupin turned toward James, "Mate, you're a grandfather!"

"Oi," James was smacked in the head by a cloud-ball from Sirius, "Come on then, let's have a look."

"Harry, it's a boy," said Ginny Potter as she gazed lovingly at her newborn son, "you pick a name."

Harry gazed at the child thoughtfully.

"Bloody hell boy," thought James, "I am your father!"

"How about James?" said Harry after a moment's thought.

"Lovely," exclaimed Ginny, "how about Severus for a middle name? He did so much for you…for us."

"Please," came Severus Snape's snide voice from behind James, " I could assure them naming a Potter after me, especially one named James, is no way to repay me."

"Oh, Severus," chimed in Lily, "I think its sweet."

"You would," Severus rolled his eyes, "there is nothing sweet about it. I assure you."

"You can't be serious, Harry," Sirius ran his fingers through his hair as well as a spectral being possibly can. "What about ME???"

"Apparently the naming of their firstborn son is a privilege accorded to certain special people, who unlike yourself, did something useful for them."

"I died for Harry!" Sirius bellowed, raising his fists threateningly.

Snape crossed his arms, "as if you intimidate me here, Black. Whatever shall you do, toss me off this cloud?"

As James and Sirius were deciding just how they were going to accomplish that, Harry Potter was flooing into Headmistress McGonagall's office at Hogwarts to announce the birth of little James Severus.

"Oh, hello Potter." McGonagall said, slightly perturbed at his unceremonious entrance.

"Hello Harry!" said Dumbledore's portrait brightly, "so nice to see you….everyone in heaven is talking about your new son. May I offer congratulations!"

"What!" McGonagall looked disapprovingly at Dumbledore's beaming face, "you could have told me, Albus."

"Dearest Minerva, I simply wanted to give Harry the chance to tell you himself--"

"Oh well, now I know," she smiled at his portrait and beamed at Harry, "I'd best go get Professor Longbottom so he can congratulate you as well. Albus, entertain Potter while I'm away."

"I understand the child is to be named James Severus," Dumbledore said carefully, as if he had deliberated his speech, "fine acknowledgements of two great men, of course."

"That's what I thought, Professor," Harry said, "why do you ask?"

"Well," Dumbledore said, "think about it carefully, Harry…Your father and Severus…well…they were never the best of friends."

"ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME THAT THEY ARE FIGHTING ABOUT THE NAME I GIVE MY CHILD?"

"Well, yes, I suppose you could say that."

"Won't they ever learn?" Harry threw up his hands in exasperation, "and I suppose they came up with something better? Snape wants me to name my son Prince Severus, I'm sure?"

"Not quite, Harry…but Sirius did have something to say on the matter."

"Fine. I got it. Does James Sirius suit them?"

"Severus will be thrilled, I'm sure," Dumbledore beamed, "Oh and Harry…perhaps I might suggest Albus for the next little Potter? Just a thought, of course."

"I'll think about it," Harry winked at him as Dumbledore's portrait went back to sleep.

"Ha!" exclaimed Sirius as Dumbledore announced the change of name. "Take that, Snivelly."

Snape rolled his eyes indifferently and trodded off to find his own cloud.
