The scene: This story starts with the group being split up and reuniting. After a long day, Aang and Katara are finally alone. They're sitting in a field under the stars.

"Hey Katara, look up at the sky. Aren't the stars beautiful?" Aang whispered.

"Yeah. I know my mom's in the spirit world, but I like to think that she's up there, watching over me," Katara whispered, smiling at Aang. He couldn't meet her gaze. The whole time he was away, he had heard rumors of her death. He kept thinking to himself, I should've told her. Now that he had the opportunity to, he couldn't bring himself to say it.

What is wrong with me? He thought. Why can't I tell her?

This time, this place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, too late
Who was I to make you wait?

Just one chance, just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know, you know, you know

That's it, he thought.

"I've gotta tell her," he whispered, not noticing he said it aloud.

"Tell me what?" Katara looked at him, concerned. Aang looked up to meet her gaze. Without another word, they both leaned in for a kiss.

Aang pulled away just enough for those three words. "I love you."

That I love you, I have loved you all along
And I miss you, been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me

and you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore

A few days later, he approached her carefully, hands behind his back.

"Katara? I want to ask you something." He knelt down. Holding up a beautiful betrothal necklace, he asked, "will you marry me?"

"Yes, Aang," she whispered.

On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all, I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know, you know, you know

Aang knew the moment he ran into the room what had happened. He grabbed the bucket of water and ran to her.

"I shouldn't have left her!" He exclaimed as he ran to Katara's side.

So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know

He held her in his arms. I hope this works, he thought, with tears running down his face. He healed Katara as best he could.

"Please, Katara, you can't leave me," Aang whispered. "Please."

She opened her eyes and smiled at him. She whispered a few words to tell him that she was alright, before drifting back to unconsiousness.

"I love you Aang."

I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
